I have a 9month old springer bitch that is doing great but if I’m training her and something moves ie a bird a leaf or even a bee she loses focus completely and she’s off! She’s very intelligent and biddable but I’m struggling with how prey driven she is.

The tip with the ball is brilliant, I've been training my Springer, Indie for the last 8 months. She sometimes gets bored and will be slow to recall, her favorite toy will be perfect for this. Thanks for the videos.

My Springer Spaniel is crazy😟. Recall can be hard at times as he’s easily distracted and he picks fights with other dogs in the park. He can be aggressive, he has in the past sent a mastiff running for the hills😲. He gets lots of love and affection at home❤️🙂🐶🤗.

Been running ESP for 40 years. Rubys a great looking pup.plenty potential. I see the usual hallmarks of an owner that needs some more education that’s all. You can’t teach what you don’t know. Also it’s much less of a problem to reel in a pup from to far out than to get them out from under your feet. Great advice your giving out there G.

Our Cavaliers are somewhat independent, often ignore my voice, but I've learned that once I get them to look at me they respond well to my hand signals. I know they often have hearing issues but I suspect more they are just being ornery more times than not. One fancies herself a hunter so she has to be watched closely since she will give chase to birds, other dogs and especially deer. The other is more a creature of habit and wants to make her rounds before she comes inside. Both are a joy and we wouldn't trade them for the world.

stop using the ball your dog thinks it's their personal property start using a proper retrieving dummy but don't play tug of war with it this will make your dog hard mouthed. Try to find somewhere with restricted space something like an alleyway so the dog can't run round you then do your lesson and make it a game and fun but stop as soon as the dog starts to look bored and don't forget to give load and loads of PRAISE. don't let the dog have any contact with the dummy except for retrieving lessons or it will become his new toy and will replace the ball and therefore will be his personal property again. A trained dog is a happy dog and so are you good luck from UK

What a great find! Watching and smiling, the enjoy of the Springers. Mine is 4, mostly a trail runner, investing several dog park trips a week with social work, she is friendly yet not overall social with other dogs. I got her when she was 1, the progress had been good, just not ideal. I love to see more dog on dog fun but she just never wants to leave my side. More of Bench springer vs a field springer, she does get x3 a week park dog play, 40 to 45 miles of trail work. We active, both of us love to be tired. But only 2 out 300 dogs will she play with, and I not allowed hug females in public or dog wife gets crazy. We do spend all hours together, excellent off leash, on leash etc. The one on one bond is great, if not too great. Would one day a week, removal and having someone else walk, interact with her gain some more social skills? She does ok with others, after a about 15 mins of panic leaving me behind. We do in town walks and she is just not into other people or animals. 10 feet from deer, we hiking among bears, elk all not issues, Now ducks she is duck crazy swimmer. 100% love her, just want to improve. I feel the dog natural great, and im owner holder her back. Very afraid of mid to loud sounds, Cap gun work failure, no sucess with guns either.

Excellent video. 2 years ago I adopted a Springer from an animal shelter here in Spain. They didn't know much about the dog, but suspected he was a hunting dog that was frightened of guns and consequently abandoned. Considering how frightened he is of loud bangs, I'd say it's a fair assessment. The problem I have is that, although he respects me at home or any enclosed space (dog parks), he completely bolts in an open field and will go as far as a kilometre away and will not come back. He definitely has a high prey drive. I cannot get his attention in any place where there are other animals, neither with a ball or any kind of treats. Is the only solution to avoid the countryside all together?
@springerspanielful

Given his age and the bad habits it probably would be wise to keep him on a leash in the countryside.For some dogs it's just too late .

@@springerspanielful I was going to recommend an e-collar but apparently they are banned in Spain. I understand the controversy on e-collar use but these hunting breeds barely feel pain but they do respond to it. I'm 40 and hunted springers since I was 10; they will run through brush til their eyes and paws bleed and love every second of it. anyway just me venting about e-collar bans Leashes aren't very long so I always have used some light rope ~50ft with a lanyard from the hardware store. You can hold it or let them drag it around and just step on it if they get too far away.

Keep them close, if they have any natural ability ie hunting they'll soon want to take an extra 10/15 yards when they hit game , so you'll need to have a handle on them, you'll not keep the brakes on if you allow them to freely in front of you, couple of months free hunting and thier lost. You won't need a whistle.

I adopted a working line cocker of 3yrs old. The previous owner had spoiled the dog in not training it or giving it leadership. The dog has a LOT of drive and now after a 2 years of undoing all the previous years behaviour are we at a stage where I would say it has good fundamentals. Great to know that my 5 furry children, I'm a servant to 4 of them and only the pack leader to 1😧. The beagle her nose down arse up doesn't lift her head for no one, Jack Russell very nervous slightest noise she's gone also toys/balls all belong to her, gives it the big snarling growling who trys to take all her toys. The pug he just runs and wants to fight the world , any other furry 4 legged mammal that isn't in HIS PACK. Then there's the sproker hahahah she's a breed of her own...... crazy, hyper, anxious and the brightest bulb in the chandelier she just ploughs into trees, or boulders, sign posts and is left very dazed, the collie cross beagle is the only 1 that has great listening skills, always looks back to see if I'm still walking behind if I'm to far behind he will either wait or come back eithout call. So it's me that's needs the training..... when does it begin
