Both of these 10mm offerings have roughly 4 and a half inch barrels and are from brands that typically offer high reliability in their pistols. So, we figured we would compare them head (muzzle) to head.
Before anyonre asks, YES, we will (hopefully) get an example of the new XDm Elite 3.8 inch barrel 10mm, but they are expensive and hard to find, so that's why we haven't shown one yet.

I bought a Gen 4 Glock 40 MOS for $650 at a gun show. It was kind of an impulse buy. In retrospect, I wish I had purchased the Glock 20 instead. The Springfield interests me, but I've heard it has issues with loads with 700_ft×lb of muzzle energy it greater.

@@KsooTheKZbinr some people like the removal of the finger grooves on the Gen 5. Personally, I don't mind them. It gives me a better purchase on the grip. If you don't have them, you're going to have to apply grip tape to the Gen 5.

@@SuperHeatherrussell lol. Not sure it will blow the gun up, but hard cast ammo can led the barrel up and cause it to possibly not fire at all. Also, hard cast bullets tend to tumble a lot out of a Glock's factory barrels. Be safe my friend.

@@SuperHeatherrussell it’s mainly the accuracy with hardcast ammo with polygonal rifling. The unsupported chamber is another issue. If you fire hot bear defense rounds (700+ ft lbs) it can rupture the case inside the gun. Which is very bad. For me it’s an accuracy and safety thing for bear loads. KKM ftw. If you use it for 2 legged defense then the stock barrel is just fine.

I have the exact 4.25Xdm that you reviewed/showed, and only got it because I didn't want a Block. I've owned and shot Blocks before, but the lower bump/hump cause the front sight to be too high when I pull the gun up, requiring me to bring the front sight down to get in alignment. The Xdm shoots great, and handles all ranges of 10mm loadings without issue. I've run loads on the lower 40 cal range up to 700 ft-lb full house loads without issue. The trigger is ok, but not great, but one can get used to it with a little training. I would like a little more crisper trigger. Other than a range gun, I use it as a sidearm for my elk and mule deer hunts here in Colorado. I'll spend several days in the back country, and we have the big critters that North America can offer; bear, mountain lion, and a pissed off moose if you happen to find yourself on the wrong side of one. As such, I like the extra capacity of 15 rounds vs 7 or 8 offered by the 1911 platform. Not to mention, I'm not a 1911 fan, as I often watch my buddy shoot his Kimber 10mm and have jam after jam after jam. As Hammer Striker said, either one is a great striker fired gun and it just depends upon your preference. Nice table top review!

XDM, fully supported chamber. People will say it’s not necessary. Shoot a couple mags of Underwood hard cast out or any of the Lehigh extreme hunter/defense/penetrators of the Glock and you’ll see why the XDM is the better choice.

Just had to explain this to a Block lover I went to HS with lol. He's building a custom G20 and told me the XD is just a copy of a Glock and gave me the whole Gaston gig story like we all don't already know 🤣 Re-chamberd, Unsupported, weak barrels, Front sights make Left or Right turns without signaling. I don't get why they love them so much but I ain't losing sleep over it either 😆

@True Spiritual Teachers hot rounds tend to warp the case making the famous “Glock smile”. On super hot rounds (700+ ft lbs) there is a danger of rupturing the case inside the gun. It’s a safety thing. Not to mention hardcast fouls up the polygonal rifling which leads to accuracy issues. Glock just didn’t put the right barrel in their 10mm. If you use it for 2 legged protection it’s just fine

In my humble opinion, the XDM in 3.8 is a much better gun than the Glock 29 gen4 which I have been carrying since 2017, ergonomics alone, recoil mitigation, reliability so far has been there, Glock is still a great gun, however Springfield has put up a awesome weapon, I have not had the opportunity to compare the two full size pistols, but I have compared my Glock 20 Gen4 to the Sig XTen and Glock has fallen behind it mostly feel like comparing a Camry with a Lexus. There are things that Glock could improve with their guns specially when it comes to ergonomics!

They're both great choices. Handle them both and buy the one that fits you best. Good point on shooting a 10mm with the low grip missing the grip safety. That would make a great video. Poor grips and the results. Only 1 round in the gun and a thick rubber mat for guns that fall

I've heard that the Glock20 doesn't have a fully supported chamber which is insane in a 10mm gun and it has polygonal rifling which doesn't allow the shooting of lead projectiles. As usual Glock doesn't make a product people want. They know they can force their substandard products on the public because of market domination.
@RadDadisRad
@RadDadisRad 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, can’t believe a factory full house load could cause a case head separation and also the fact that a Glock barrel will lead foul from hard cast. Although if you’re shooting full house loads I recommend a #20 or #22 recoil spring so that you’re not getting slide crash with the XDM, plus it helps with brass ejection.

@warmachine_1396
@warmachine_1396 2 жыл бұрын
They do that for reasons and the main one being reliability. With factory new brass that hasn't been loaded over and over I've never heard of an issue. Now put together a really hot load in a case that's been used too many times already and you are asking for trouble. Also there are people that shoot lead in glock barrels and just clean accordingly and frequently. Depending on the load and its speed and the hardness of the lead you really wouldn't even get much leading. Just depends on the bullet used and the speed. All of that being said I understand people being concerned about it. Glock isn't the only manufacturer using Polygonal barrels. Walther and H&K are 2 others off the top of my head. It's for accuracy/better bullet to bore sealing. Less gas blowby. For those concerned about the barrel there are several manufacturers that make aftermarket barrels for the model 20 that have traditional land and groove rifling and fully supported chambers. Yes that is an extra expense however. I like Glocks for their simplicity and reliability but I do like alot of other guns better honestly. Well I've been long-winded so I will stop here. Hope you are well.

@@warmachine_1396 I just bought a Glock 20 and shot some hsm hard cast lead before I'd heard this about the barrel and it did fine. I also shot some underwood 200gr hollow points and extreme penetrators and it did great as well. I'm considering getting an after market barrel just to be safe but still undecided. The extreme penetrators should do fine because they are copper and I bet they will get the job done for bear defense

@SansDirections if .357 is adequate so is a 10mm since they are about the same power. You are overlooking the fact that you do not always go in the woods with a long gun and sometime that long gun Is loaded with birdshot. 10mm is more the adequate for a black bear and I am not in grizzly territory.
