This is honestly why I think your channel, Billy, is underrated. At least in the racing world on KZbin. You explain why you do what you do. Which opens novice's eyes, like myself. I've always been a fan, only been on a race crew once, but it was wasn't mechanical. So, I have little knowledge towards the mechanics of sprint cars, or any other dirt car. These types of videos are very helpful!

New subscriber today. I have been searching for a channel like this with tech. No crazy intro and music drowning out the voice of the speaker. Just the information. Well done !!!

More of these please! Good practical hands on knowledge. Not enough of that available for sprint cars.

Billy I appreciate your channel very much. You are funny, knowledge, and most of all I appreciate how you explain things about mechanics on your race car. I subscribe to around 25 channels of dirt track racers and you are the only one that shows how and why you work on your race cars. Thank you for allowing us to learn from your experiences. And your humor in your videos is top notch ❗👍🙂

I say this with the utmost respect I hope for damn sure we see more videos and not all shorts . You guys could honestly be the best Racing channel out there. The entire cast of Characters are top notch . Just think If you guys would consistently post the algorithm would do it's work and the next thing you know you would have 50K subscribers and you could actually buy a right rear with KZbin funds lol . I'm serious you guys are awesome and way underrated if you posted more the channel would grow. Give the people what they want Billy Yeaaahhh Boooyyyy !!!!

Moving tires out make car more loose? Moving tires in make car tighter? How do these effect the handle?
@billydietrich Жыл бұрын
You’re exactly right ! We typically move the RR more than the LR . Some will move both equally. We typically only move LR out when on big tracks

Why do you not use impact guns to take the axle nuts off? I've allways wondered that. Seems like it would be faster
@billydietrich2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’m not sure an impact would get the nut tight enough.
@MinnieVanili3159 Жыл бұрын
How tight do you folks tighten the axle nuts?
@johnwargo89902 жыл бұрын
When you were showing how that nut was bottomed out on the splines and there would be playing the wheel would you be able to feel that inside the car at speed
@billydietrich2 жыл бұрын
If it was a large amount of play you’d have a vibration

Can you use the graphite spray lubricant if you can't find the powder graphite in your area? Asking as what to use as an alternative?
@billydietrich2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never used the spray. I’m not sure what alternative there is. Good question
@jayss102 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for Billy so if I'm wrong I hope he speaks up and says something but as I understand it the whole idea is that grease because of it's tacky nature will hold mud/dirt/dust and actually cause more friction on the threads of the axle nut making them harder to turn after they have been exposed to mud/dirt/dust. So as long as the lubricant doesn't leave a film dust/dirt/mud can stick to I think it would be ok. The problem I can see with using grease or similar is that when it traps all that junk in the threads of the axle/axle nut I can see a crew guy chewing the threads off one or the other or both when pulling something apart in a hurry. Basically that trapped dirt would act as an abrasive on the threads. Thats my take on it.

@@jayss10 the graphite spray I was thinking of is graphite dry lubricant.
@ericguyotracing2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the dry graphite spray goes on wet but dries in a few minutes and is just like the dry graphite. It can be hard to find but works great
@markfehrenbach42042 жыл бұрын
So, I take it that there are no pins to keep the wheel from spinning? Just a 'tight' center nut?
@billydietrich2 жыл бұрын
That is correct
@ss6liter2 жыл бұрын
The axle and wheel center are splined to keep from spinning.

Centrelock wheels, of any form a mechanically inept way of holding a wheels on. The contact area is simply too small, and these huge wheels and huge offsets accentuate the problems. I have seen wheels chatter and too often fall off because of the design. Speedway, road racing, F1! 5 or 6 stud wheels on around a 5" PCD gives a far superior clamping force over a larger area. Safety? Ban centre locks!! World wide! The one thing Nascar HAD that worked. Alloy nuts too cause issues. Things gall up after a while and come off even quicker
