I used to work for a big USAC team based out of Beast Chassis shop. Most Beast Pavement cars had the lower left frame rail filled with lead, and some cars had the entire left side nerf bar filled with lead as well.

I can't keep up Johnny. Make all races full points 2024!
@JohnGibson-dt5cd2 ай бұрын
@@DIRTRACKR I tend to agree (as long as it's not a split field race), but here's the scenario that best describes keeping the big races non-points (aside from having a "different" format): For the biggest races, the fans want to see drivers "lay it all on the line" going for the win and the big $. If a driver racing for points has a choice between trying something drastic to get the win or staying "safely" in 2nd with a championship on the line that pays more than any singe individual race, there's a decision to be made. If there are no points consequences, the choice is simple--GO FOR IT!

Lead in the nerf bars has been going on for decades so that's nothing new just suprised that they haven't been checking for that. I was at the ASCoC Sharon Nationals in the 90's when it was the big track and the 00 car from Ohio got caught with the left side nerf bar loaded with lead and was DQ'd.

Sense RTJ and O'Neal have moved rides. I've been more interested in the Lucas late model series, and I was interested in them before, love or hate either of them you have to admit it's been very exciting racing with them up front battling for the win
@Ideasofcreativitymn2 ай бұрын
Didn’t like O’Neal in rocket 1 but was pulling for him in his own ride, wanted anyone but rtj to win but now find myself rooting for rtj with an up and coming team I don’t want the ssi car to win but don’t dislike hud and would like t mack to get one finally but I don’t think his style is what it takes to put a rocket in front they seem to need to bang the boards to do it. No denying ssi has one of the best programs someone’s got to drive it so can’t fault hud for that.

Chase said in his Eldorah preview video that HL is no points. He didn't mention show up points which seems weird that they wouldn't require the full time teams going for the charter to show up to one of the biggest shows.

Seen it over and over again in my fifty some odd years of paying attention to Motorsports. When the purses go up, so do the creative ways to try to get more purse money in the pocket. It’s why these days on the internet I follow a couple of hometown tracks in Canada and that’s about it.

We be putting weight, sliding weight in frame rails since I was a kid in the 60's. Nothing new, and really doesn't need regulated. But if it ain't secure, under any circumstances, you are just wrong.
@mikelyons28312 ай бұрын
You can easily & safely add significant weight to front & rear bumpers & nerf bars with sand & seal'm with cork. A pale's worth of sand flying about due to a crash is not exactly dangerous compared to chunks of clay I've seen thrown from crashes... just saying.
@arrowkart4j2 ай бұрын

I had heard Karl Kinser strapped a heavy steel flywheel at a Western world race at Manzanita sometime in the 80s, Steve went on to win. Pretty sure it was a non wing race back then. Can anyone confirm?
@TripleB32 ай бұрын
I cannot confirm, but I wouldn’t doubt it, as Karl was usually a step ahead of most back then when it came to thinking outside the box. Steve won the Western World 4 times in the ‘80s both in a non-wing (82 & 83) and with a wing (85 & 87).
