SG1 did kind of contribute to me joining up. I always liked how they portrayed Col. O'Neill as tough and righteous and it always sparked to me that was because of his Military service. I guess SG3 must have impacted me more though because I joined the Marines. Damn glad I did to. At any rate I enjoyed the show and how their teamwork, friendship and respect could conquer anything that came their way. A fine example we should all strive for.

They got the seal of approval from the Air Force, too. I think it's great how they had AF personnel help with making the show as realistic as possible for the soldiers. Not to mentioned some actual officers guest starred. :)

No surprise that the show helped recruitment. The character of Sam Carter alone helped the most; a smart, competent, professional and human face to Air force women! It also helped get out the message that The USAF really, actually DOES have Special Forces who do ground operations too!

I love that the military understands the opportunities at stake when playing with the entertainment industry. It's good to see that they didnt just use Stargate as a propoganda tool to show the Armed Forces at their best, and instead let it run reasonably free.

@Phil483282 They're Air Force personnel, or Airmen, as they're called. They're not soldiers which would be Army personnel. Basically in the U.S. there are Soldiers (Army), Sailors (Navy), Airmen (Air Force), Marines (Marine Corps) and Guardsmen (Coast Guard). That being said the U.S. Air Force does have special forces who do ground operations, and most SGC airmen were special forces trained. Also, just as an FYI, less than 5% of air force personnel actually fly aircraft ;)

If the US Military is involved via advisor, they will make sure that the show or movie will NEVER be 100% accurate. The last thing they want is for someone to learn all the customs and courtesies and be able to sneak on to a base or into a govt building. US Military advisors will make sure there will be at least a few glaring discrepancies. Usually with the uniform

Don't know what the problem was. Anyway it was good to see Brad Wright, and other actors from Stargate. I thought that was neat when they invited Jumper, and Ryan on the set of SG. Pretty Cool!
