Awesome job, but I'm really torn on doing something like this. I have some older builds that I kinda cringe when I look at, but to me they're a reminder of where I started and are a great mark of how far I've progressed in my skills.

Great video! I took your advice and repaint my T-90A. Now, fully painted with proper colours, adjusted decals, some panel lining and lightly dusted wheels/tracks it looks so much better. The only thing that stayed are clear yellow painted reflectors because while I was trying to clean them I just made them foggy.

When I was a kid my older brother was the model maker in the family. When he would do a tank he always asked our uncle who had been in the 3rd Armored during the war his advice on how well it looked. Someone who had been there knew how it was supposed to look.

Then I watched this video and so, what the heck I'm rubbing it all down otherwise I won't have any panel lines left! Start over' I really enjoyed the vid. Thank you from this dozy old limey.

Great video! I've recently returned to regularly modeling and in between new kits, have been pulling older models off the shelf and sprucing them up or updating them using newer/better skills (some were not ever quite finished, started as long as 25 years ago). I particularly like this video because I will soon be working on a tribute model for my sister in law...her father was a M10 driver with the 823rd...and I like your methods and techniques.

I have an old Italeri M4a1 76mm that I built about 40 years ago and every 5-10 years update it which is perhaps more fun than a new build. Putting on new tracks, and a lot of the new 3-D printed parts and updating painting. However I have a newer one, maybe 20 years older updated with Formations parts and I might just have to have at it again! about 3 years ago I started putting some barely noticeable things going on with vehicles, starting with a Tamiya halftrack, by turning it into an medical detachment kit, not an ambulance, and put a canvas top from Blast, and the corresponding cloth straps to the sides, and inside, there is a driver and a passenger, and the passenger is talking to another who is just barely in view sitting behind the front seats. And the older M4A1 now has a co driver/machine gunner who is closing his hatch, you see his head peeking out from under the hatch and a hand lowering it. It adds more interest for me.

Very good video. I have a semi-related question. I had an initial attempt at weathering my StuG from Tamiy but AFTER I've applied the final matt varnish I noticed that some bits on the hull just look dirty rather that weathered. How would you approach fixing that? Just painting over with the usual dunkelgelb or use some solution get rid of some of the varnish somehow?

I did this recently with an old Dragon M270 MLRS kit I built back in 1992. I had brush painted it at the time as I didn't own an airbrush. I started by lightly sanding the large surfaces to get rid of brush strokes, then airbrushed it using colour modulation and weathered it properly. Looked a million times better than what I did in 92!

Looks great! After seeing this, I might refurb my Tamiya panther D that I did a year ago. You might want to try ammo/ak dark brown wash for green, or their wash for dark yellow. I find that it looks a little better than dark wash. Also, I personally think that rubber is usually dark grey rather than black. I like Vallejo black grey or dark grey, and I sometimes use ak 3rd gen German grey for my rubber parts.

Two other ways to get the rough texture: a:) soak the part with liquid glue, give the plastic a min to soften, then stipple with a stiff brush. b:) mix a touch of flour in to any color paint and glob it on with a stiff brush. The flour trick also works well with making rust spots. Edited to add: the refurbish looks great!

For brushwork, it's very helpful to use thinner paints (acrylics are usually already in good shape, but adding a bit of water to the mix can help) & to use the smallest brush strokes you can. The thinner the layer of paint, the better 👍
