My father bought the duplicate of this car brand new in Blue Earth, MN. It cost between $700 and $800. It served him until, being trained at Camp Claiborne, LA in Dec. 1941, the Pearl Harbor attack put him in the army until his evacuation from Italy in mid 1944. My mother (fiancée at the time) used it in his absence. Still had it until late 1945 when my older brother was born. It went to my grandparents and was repowered by a Mercury crate motor given to my grandfather by the owner of Downtown Chevrolet where he worked. It sat at grandparents home North of Brainerd MN in the mid fifties (no longer running or fixable). Guess it was sold off. That tiny light on dash above the speedometer was the high beam indicator. My grandad would tease us by pointing and saying "on" and hitting the dimmer switch.

What color green do you call that? 1940 was a fine model year for Ford.

Hello, greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina, what is the Columbia 2-speed differential? is it like an overdrive? Spectacular coupe and amazing state of conservation CONGRATULATIONS!!

The Columbia 2 speed was very similar to an overdrive. The overdrive was transmission device that lowered RPMs while the Columbia changed the differential gear ratio to the same purpose. The big trucks of today all use these. They are called splitters and double the amount of top gears on the Road Ranger type transmission.
