I remember this game. The score did not indicate how badly Dallas was severely kicking their ass. Kerr came in and I was not old enough to know any of the former Bulls players, I honestly thought he looked kinda wimpy and didn't expect anything from him, my dad was like watch this guy, he is a deadly shooter if left open. History made, man Kerr had been one of my favorite bench guys since this game and now he coached my favorite team the Warriors to an NBA championship! Man I love this guy!

I'm a Bulls fan and was in 6th grade back then. I remembered Steve Kerr as being a part of our championship teams during the 2nd 3-peat but he was used very sparingly his final year I often forgot he was still on the Spurs. This game seemed absolutely hopeless for San Antonio, it felt like a game 7 vs Dallas a guarantee. Steve Kerr came in outta nowhere and completely swung this game in the Spurs favor with his unexpected barrage of 3's in the 4th. There weren't many dynasty era Bulls left in the NBA by this point so it was pretty cool for me to see Kerr shine in such a big spot 5 years after the Last Dance showing he still had the marksmanship he was always known for.

Coach Pop always understood how important the team (the *entire* team) is - and he also managed to make the Spurs *truely* embrace that concept. That's why the Spurs seemingly have such a "deep bench" - because Pop gives everybody a chance to shine where other coaches only see "benchwarmers" and continue to almost exclusively play around their star players.

playing off prime duncan in the post and his passing ability helped
@razkable7 жыл бұрын
not really....it was about time some one hit open shots of his passes from double teams.....Duncan avg 25 ppg 13.5 rebounds 5.5 assists 3 blocks and 1steal a night that year.....24 and 14 5 4 and 1 in the postseason.....look at the roster...and the stats..manu sucked and avg 7 a night as a rookie......the roster sucked and was old slow and no one harldy played besides the starters....that title team was built on timmy being 2 time nba mvp doing work vs everyone nightly and parkers ability to get to the lane..but even tony wasn't yet t parker...he could get you an easy 10-12 but that's about it..everyone besides parker timmy and Stephen Jackson on that team was very bad at scoring....that's why they didn't avg 10 a night and timmy carried them to one of the best postseasons a player has ever had....again they played off him...otherwise they couldnt create shit..or get good looks.steve kerr aint doing that unless he has duncan...look at his game 6 of the finals to win it..21 20 rebounds 9 blocks and 8 assists lol..thats nuts..almost a quad double!.......they were built on defense and slowly working it from timmy posting up...and getting offensive rebounds form him and the admiral..duh....that was the way they played..

Well look at Popovich as head-coach. He can find talent in every player. That is why Spurs usually do not have ups and downs during their seasons. They keep good level of basketball for the whole time. Robinson era-> Duncan/Ginobli era-> and now Leonard. But still role players were always great in San Antonio.

I know Steven Jackson was feelin' it from beyond the arc this game, but Michael Finley @3:58 bit so hard on that pump that Steve Nash had to leave Steve Kerr to stop what would've most likely been a dunk by Steven Jackson cutting through the paint. After that he frantically chased Jackson from behind instead of shifting over to cover Steve Kerr, who happens to be the best three point shooter of all time statistically (emphasis on statistically we know Steph is the 3 Point GOAT). I know it's a tricky situation because both players are lethal from beyond the arc and San Antonio during this time had the best ball movement I've ever seen from any team, but leaving Steve Kerr wide open there, especially after he hit 2 3's in the past couple of minutes, is mind-blowing. After that at @4:49 Steve Nash lost his mind, and left Steve Kerr wide open to attempt to steal the ball from Tim Duncan. Not only was the idea of trying to steal it from Tim there stupid but that was the weakest attempt at a steal I've seen in quite sometime. For whatever reason, as a basketball fan, I had to get that off my chest. That being said, epic comeback and performance by an aging Steve Kerr to send his team to the Finals.
@arenmoore25166 жыл бұрын
Man this was good basketball. Love the ball movement. This is the beauty of the game. They tried to speed the game up by outlawing handchecking but they actually slowed it down because it encouraged hero ball
