Ange made the same mistakes as last year... to many changes to have any chemistry. It was an insult not to start Gray over Spence and Gray looked terrible. He is not a RB. Then Spence comes in and saves Spurs. A player who has been treated badly by Spurs and the Coaches!! Well done Spence, stay strong, big things ahead for you!! I have been supporting Ange but his team selections are way off!!

I also think that Ange has to manage the squad. We need to make sure our second string players get the minutes and time playing together so they can help us in the cups and Europa League. At the same time Ange has to make sure our first team squad doesn’t burn out by the end of the season. We would all love to see us win all the games 3 or 4 nil. But we are playing in many competitions. The balancing act isn’t easy. But we got it done today. Let’s get on with it ⚪️👍

Ange believes that if he stays composed that our team will stay composed during the game. That’s why he’s not running around the ground like the clown from Woolwich. This calmness has served him well before when he was winning Glasgow derbies. The other managers were losing it but Ange stayed cool. I can understand people might not understand him at first, but most things he does have a strategy behind them. I also agree that our performance wasn’t great in the last game. But I also think that we have deserved better results in some of our other games this year. So maybe we were due a win.
@Blackbird58

That IS a major problem-I don't know what he expects them to do as the opposition adapts to us as the game progresses and neither do they-especially when you expect it from players who have only trained briefly together being chucked on with all of that pressure to deliver for the long-suffering fans. I don't know what he is doing, the subs rarely make sense-who?/when?/how many? At the same time, I can't handle seeing yet another one get the boot but he has got a lot to learn if he is to take us anywhere in this league-I've written this season off.

@@Blackbird58But his substitutions were successful weren’t they? He brought on Kulu and Maddison who were key to us winning. I think his decision to take off Solanke was to make sure he didn’t re-injure himself as he is still getting back to fitness following a leg injury.

@@ChrisCowlin I appreciate that Chris, and I apologise for my tone, and wrongful implication (it was not meant to be taken as literal, it was just how I felt). Sorry, I am just so worn down by the constant nagging negativity of all these micro dissections of every single point so far this season by almost ALL podcasts. I think the team Ange put out was good enough, and brave tonight. These players (Werner, Brennan, etc) need to be played into confidence and form or we have no chance this season. If it didn't quite click then I'm happy to let him carry on until it does (I believe in him). I don't believe in short term results. Arteta in his second season was losing three on the trot at HOME to relegation teams. It's the 'curse' of having to be so reactive in this modern media imvho. I guess I'm just too old for these instant knee jerks, and saying we won't win anything after five games upset me - we won! Anyway, I'm sure the 'problem' is all on me when I just feel differently, so apologies again, and I'll see you at the end of the season (hopefully!) when at least we will have reached a semi or final. Cheers, good wishes and many thanks for all you do, and COYS you beautiful Lilywhites!!!

Team selection? Come on, the team played on Sunday, then we had the this Cup game and then in a few days time another game. Ange has to rotate to avoid player burn out or injury. Honest to god you armchair specialists seem to think the starting 11 should play every game. Look at the Cup matches last season and the likes of Liverpool who basically played their under 21 team in cup matches. Man City is different as they have an A and B team, both could win the league. If anything these players who started missed their opportunity to challenge Ange and show him they should get more game time.

We don't have the right players to play Ange's system. We are more suited to a 3-5-2 system. Johnson is never a winger but is ok as an inside right/left forward. Sarr is a player that gets around the pitch but won't be doing that a lot as we try and play everything in the opposition half. Son is not a winger. Gray is more suited as a defensive midfielder. Porro and Udogie are wing backs, not inverted full backs. Even the new guy from Burnley is being played out of position, He's better on the left or through the middle. Spence is a right back but gets played on the left.. Ange is playing to many players out of there most effective positions as he is an inflexible manager. That will be his downfall at the highest level. I don't have a problem with making lots of changes as that's what most teams do. But our tactics look terrible at the moment and that's the problem

That’s the concerning thing is the manager isn’t learning. Fulham last year. Coventry this year. We should have gone out again. The slow build up. The same as Sunday. Passing too slowly, taking safe option. It wasn’t until we moved it quicker, quick flicks through and running onto it at pace that we opened them up. Odobert injury wasn’t ideal as Johnson needs a break and to work on his game. He was poor again, but a nice goal. How his pace should be utilised as his crossing is poor and he has no tricks to make a yard. Bizarre Spence on the bench when not in Europa league squad. He did very well, just list the guy on their goal. But otherwise encouraging. Udogie does not look right this year. Not running into the area, playing it safe. Davies did some things well but also looked dreadful in moments. Forster made some good saves. But it’s a joke he is still with us. Too old now and some of his decision making and sloppy drops of the ball, not what you expect from an experienced keeper, even if he is rusty. Gray wasn’t great. Sarr has been woeful this year. What has he actually got in his locker? He’s rubbish. Bentancur was ok. Lovely ball for the winner. Solanke got no service. Kulusevski especially and Maddison changed it. Our two creative players. Son didn’t do much and worried for him. Needs to find so much more for us. His mind looks fried. Anything could happen Saturday now. Fans will be very nervous. Some confidence has to be found. No Wissla is good. Mbeumo is the main concern. A win is all we can accept really.

Chris & James, The under-par performances result from one massive Ange-problem: He is NOT rotating the team nearly enough nor on time in the Premier League. We did not look good against Arsenal, so who deserved to stay in the side? VDV is one, but who really showed they deserved another start? None of them! The "so-called" 2nd string has to get game-time and this was their chance. It has to be done, and while the first half was painful, it wasn't any more painful than three of the first four games. He MUST rotate the side consistently and this has to be the presses' focus instead of stupid things like "I always win in my 2nd season."

Ange must bring on 2-3 "new" players in EVERY match so that the team stays fresh and so you stop crying about the changes thing in cup games. The same thing happened with Conte, and just as much so with Poch, especially in him not playing N'Koudou and me screaming at him from 6,000 miles away to give him a chance. WE have to focus on pressing Ange to make changes in EPL games. Journalists like yourself should be asking why he doesn't rotate in EPL consistently, and if he does this, I could see our next cup game having less dramatic changes.

To win a Europa League you need to be consistent. Have all your ducks in a row. We are miles off. Haven’t got a top striker. History would suggest we go to a tricky away game like Zagreb and blow it. Will be a good experience for us but with so many developing youngsters, little creativity, defensive issues, we would do well to win a local schools cup at the moment!

Team Selection - guys we gotta face facts the board is only interested going forward in competitions where we get the most revenue so team selection will be made to suit.. I'm sure Ange does not want this but unfortunately the board is still getting involved in team selection and either Ange accepts or he is out. We dont have the second team that is good enough. Our club does not have the same mentality that it had before the current owners stepped in. I dont agree with it but it is what it is.

I think that if our squad with 8 changes isn't good enough to beat Coventry, we don't deserve to win the cup. We have to play these players sometime. I get wanting to win, and I was so pissed in the 72nd minute. But I wasn't mad at the selection - I want to see these players. I was mad at the performance that they were producing. The Premier League game on the weekend = we have to go strong. The Carrymybag and FA Cup = we have to go strong. The Europa League = we have to go strong. We cannot do that. Son can't start 50 games if we want the best out of him. All out backup players will be handing in transfer requests if they never play.

You're missing the point. You integrate players gradually, not all at once. The fact you've not seen these players just shows that he's not playing them towards the end of prem games etc. You can't play an entirely fresh team all at once, madness. And there's the real issue.
