Well said, Rich! The Spurs have leapt from the NBA basement to a .500 team in less than half of a season. They are heading in the right direction at a rapid pace, and they are doing it by not taking shortcuts. We still have a boatload of talented young players who are still developing and nowhere near their primes, and plenty of good draft picks in coming years. Stay the course!

Spurs ABSOLUTELY have to make some trades. They have 30 picks over the next 7 years alone. Cant draft that many guys. Some of that draft capital has to be flipped, and you may as well flip them for young scorers.

I just don't see the Spurs making any significant trades this year. The odds are too high against finding an impact player with a team friendly contract. Free agency and draft is WAY more likely to be the way the Spurs build their future now.Right now, the starters for the Spurs are actually just now figuring out how to play with one another. The bench the same. Why would they blow all of that up mid-season?? No significant trades this year.

Great vid TSR! You always show a good mix of optimism and logic! I agree, these players are good, but they do have concerns such as fit and health. At the moment, we have a great starting unit that doesn't need immediate fixing. The biggest concern in my opinion is our bench with the lack of shooting. I think we need to draft/trade for bench help. We could use a quality sg on bench and also another pf as we don't have a pf either coming off the bench. We have too many sf players in the rotation. Although I like our guys, I'd like to see what we can get out of Collins, Branham, and Wesley

Not trading for stars traps the Spurs to giving big contracts to role players, because we end up in a situation with too much cap with no real stars. Look at Collins, KJ, Barnes and even DV salary. Now its extremely hard to trade them. Its clearly not working and we might end up losing Wemby if we continue.

Fox wouldn't the missing piece for Wemby. He needs Ball on the hand & sucks on seating bigs. I would rather trade for Cam Johnson. He can spread the floor very well. By the way, CP3 already knows how to ball with this guy. Lonzo Ball is another lowkey choice with better D & court version passing. Bulls only want several 2nd picks back. We also have their future 1rd pick. Maybe we go lucky, We will have : Ball-DV-Cam-Sochan-Wemby for start5. Castle in second unit for learning. And CP3 on the coach seat with Popo.

Great take Rich! As Churchill once said “You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth”… Same goes with trades or acquiring players… You don’t go for players who are at their prime and actually having the best statistical season of their career… You would have to give up way too many assets to make it happen and it does not make really sense when the team chemistry improves game after game as your young roster gets comfortable playing together. So I agree, great player but no thanks, we’ll do it the Spurs way. ❤

I think Pop is definitely a factor here & the Spurs should look to get Fox. I'm not sure the franchise is willing to go all in on Mitch, that includes him developing potentially multiple 1st round picks at a time. Wemby progressing as a 3pt shooter could be tremendous next to Fox, and Fox would still be one of our better 3pt shooters. He's a work horse too, heavy mins, heavy role, need that consitency in reg season. Fox probably turns us into a 6th-8th seed if all we lose is role players. Still, we could fall into the play in even with him because this roster is so flawed as is.

Or, and hear me out....they don't have to make any trades are are playing the slow game, building chemistry, and bringing in veteran talent to teach them how to win games (which is working and worth it.) If there is a win now mentality, it should be checked at the door. They are too young, make too many mistakes, and are building chemistry. You have the team buying in and a young coach who the team is listening to, AND they are healthy. Everything is going just as they planning and ahead of schedule. In two years, Wemby will be shooting 40% from 3 and will be the MVP.

I tend to agree with you. But "solid D" is a little to much. He's in fact league average on D (if you watch his defensive metrics) which is not bad for a 6'2".... But for example CP3 produce a way better team D when he's on the floor.

@aspleen1102
@aspleen1102 19 күн бұрын
@@marshalljames8359 you can find lowlight on any players. Many time the (real) DPOY Wemby let his opponent have an easy basket. Castle make so many rookie mistakes, Sochan get beat by a simple screen... What matter is how you perform on D during the whole game. And how you communicate with your teammates to play good Team D. Metrics don't lie, they are pure objective logic showing how impactful CP3 is still on D during the whole game (not just highlights and lowlights). Of course he'll not defend the rim, but as a disruptor, as D IQ, his team D is still good (far above league average) at 39Yo

Fox is a Houston native and wouldn’t spurs fans want an upgrade in athleticism at PG? Someone has to bring the ball up the court and having one of the fastest to ever do it in fox would be dangerous. Plus, imagine the pick n roll and spacing that would create for shooters like Barnes, champagnie, or even vassell to a lesser extent. The takes about not wanting to take the ball out of Wemby’s hands are really bad. Imagine taking magic away from Kareem… Take Tony away from Duncan… not nearly as successful as the sum of stars.

I don't envision Fox, Butler or Ingram significantly changing the Spurs trajectory where the cost of what they'd give up is worth it. Of the three Fox seems to have the most "Spurs-culture" character. His affection for Texas and his childhood fav player, Manu Ginobili, could see him take a lesser salary to stay longterm. The scoring and speed combo is reminiscent of Tony yet he's not a great 3point shooter and in this current state of the league and the Spurs roster, that's a big negative. Particularly when Wemby is going to see double teams frequently. Plus, his assists are lower than one would expect at around 6 apg. As far as I'm concerned we got our future PG and he also wears #5. Butler is the type of player the Spurs would go after when he's at the end of his career and not requiring a long or pricey contract. It would make more sense now for a title contender to go out and get him. There has been talk about Golden State but I think the Nuggets would be an awesome sleeper choice for him to land with. For Ingram, all the points you made are correct as to why it wouldn't make sense for them to target him. If Pels are desperate and the Spurs can get him cheap, then he's clearly an upgrade at the 3 and makes the Spurs' playoff chances even more likely. Signing him for a longterm deal at the price tag he's looking for isn't feasible.

The history of trades at the trade deadline is not very rich of successes. There are more bad trades than trades which bring a team to better results. Last year, only the trades of the Mavs have brought a major change in the hierarchy and the Mavs made the NBA final (thanks to Gafford and PJ Washington). What bring the other trades ? Siakam at Indiana ? Anunoby at New York ? Harden at Clippers ? The Clippers were eliminated first round. Anunoby was injured most of the season. Siakam should have given Indiana a better team to make the eastern conference final; but what would have been the result of the first round if Giannis would have played ? Let's wait this summer to make some trades and attract good vets at the free agency... 1. Butler is 36 years old, is requesting a max contract on several years (for 19/6/5 on less than 60 games per year). Do you really build your future on him ??? 2. Ingram is requesting a max contract on even more years than Butler (for 22/5/5 on even less games per year than Butler). His defense isn't impressive. His percentages are very average (46% and 37% at 3 [with some bad years]). He is positioned 6th of the NBA in term of TO (3.8 per game - 36% of his team). Do you really want to jeopardize your financial health with this average player who will be injured in playoff ??? 3. Fox's trade makes much more sense to replace CP3 next season. When checking his advanced stats, he is a good player but he isn't very performant at 3 and at FT. Btw I definitely wouldn't spend a max contract on this player but a "Sengun" type of contract (22% of the cap maximum). But I am pretty sure that he will request a max contract.

@@TSRSports50 Of course according to the rumors... Paul George got a supermax (35% of the cap). Why not requesting a max contract from Butler (he is not eligible to the supermax !) ? I hope that Wemby won't ask for a supermax contract (he should be eligible as DPOY and allstar). If he wants to win (and this is what drives him), he needs to be surrounded by good players. You don't attract good players with bananas !! He will already get so many big advertisement contracts that he could choose to lower his salaries to help his team to recruit better players. When he will get his contract, the difference between a max and supermax contract will be (65.4 - 56.1) 9.3 M$, equivalent to one good veteran.

If we had to trade for one of those 3, I'd want Ingram, he's a career 36% 3P shooter, at 6'8" and entering his prime. What do the Spurs need? 3P shooting and defense... I agree that I don't think the Spurs are making a move for any of those guys. If the Spurs did make an in season trade, I think it's easy more likely that we pick up a guy that's closer to someone like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (a number 2 or 3 option that's a 3 and D player) from a team that wanted to keep taking steps forward but maybe had their star player have an injury or something like that, and so they're fine putting a vet on the trade block to try and get draft a draft asset from the Spurs while also making their own draft asset better...

Another guy in that 3 and D category, Herb Jones (despite the recent shoulder injury), from the Pelicans is who I'd be trying to trade for from them. Career 36% 3P shooter, finished 5th in DPOY voting last year... very team friendly contract at $12M a year because he "only scores 10 ppg"... like that's the type of guy I would be trying to pry away from the Pelicans (along with perhaps a currently injured player that would get waived, for the purposes of matching salaries). They might even let a guy like him go for Zach Collins and like a couple of future picks... he's currently starting for the Pels, he'd probably be coming off the bench for us, and subbing in for Barnes or Sochan...

PATSFO won't be doing anything until it is determined where those 2-4 picks in 2025 are going to fall. I'm conjecturing that PATSFO did the Sochan PG "experiment" to 1) tank; and 2) get him used to handling the ball b/c the league is evolving to needing 2-3 ball handlers on the court at the same time to bring up "rock". That way opposing teams cannot focus on getting the ball out of the hands of one specific player - like a Trae Young - and then you're stuck b/c the other players do not know how to set up the offense in the half court. And the playoffs are still a half court game.

Fox would be great. He had great number against us dispite the good castle defense. Ingram seems injury prone... Buttler very good be not sure he would fit... Too star isn"t?

What about Ingram for Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins and 2 or 3 first rounders. I feel that gets us out of the logjammed 6-11 spot in the west and has us not even in the play in but possibly that 6th seed guranteeing a first round series against the 3 seed and not sneaking in and having to play the 1 or 2 seed. I know he gets injured but like you said Zach is put of the rotation So Keldon for B.I. is an upgrade as much as i love Keldon and can shoot the 3 at a higher percentage even if he doesn't shoot it as often. B.I. is still young and has at least 5 more prime years.

Pittsburgh fans don't even know the game they don't know basketball the best fit that the Spurs can get well one of them is Trey Murphy III from the Pelicans he's 25 years old he's long he's athletic I believe he's like 6869 that's what the Spurs need to get he can fit right in at the small forward position

I think the spurs don’t make a big move. Maybe a small move with Collin’s. Wemby needs shooting around him and id like a better facilitator than fox. Most dynasty’s build through the draft and add along the way.

But that mindset of wanting to win, Fox or Ingram? I prefer Fox. He seems like he has more of a fight than Ingram. Maybe on a winning team, Ingram will have more drive, who knows. Fox, CP3, Vassell, Sochan, and of course Wemby as a starting 5 sounds pretty dang good. Barnes and Castle off the bench. Castle off the bench is a good learning experience for him since he's facing the second unit. Maybe we can get Dejounte back. Butler is getting old, and to expensive.
