Hoddle was Much better than Beckham, he had two feet and used to hit 70 yard balls with ease with either foot many times a game . Hoddle would be priceless in today’s game. I liked Beckhams passion for England, but we have to acknowkedge that Beckham was a very one-dimensional player. And was easily nullified in a game if he came up against class opposition. Hoddle is the most skilful and gifted player England has ever produced and was wasted in an era preoccupied with crunch tackling and workrate that got England nowhere. The English FA should hold their heads in shame for wasting Hoddle, he is the greatest talent we have ever produced.

No this particular season was 1983-84, when Spurs won the UEFA CUP, but the following season Spurs lost in the quarter finals to Real Madrid 0-1 on aggregate. They lost at White Hart Lane and were only able to salvage a goalless draw at the Bernabeau
