The import feature is probably the best use of the skip back. I never thought of that!! This is genius man. I end up connecting it to the computer. Thanks for the tip.

import by skipback is an epic tip! Nice one. FYI I use "Switch" file converter for batch conversion. Sometimes the "weird" wavs still cause issues (correct samplerate/bitrate, but still dont work), you might need to go through an intermediate alternate format, which clears the borked / unsupported header information in the bogus wave files.
@spvidz Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I’ve got a converter now but still haven’t gotten around to doing it 😂

Any way to explain a way to record into a DAW without crossfeeding external/internal audio? Like recording with the metronome on in ableton but not recording it into the audio in the daw while playing with the SP? Thank you for the consistently awesome videos
@spvidz Жыл бұрын
Not sure on that one sorry! I don't tend to interact much with a DAW when I'm on the SP. The only times I use it are to record out my final beat. Glad you dig the videos 🙌

Good tips here bro. If you did wanna batch-convert that break folder to wavs though you can download and use mediahuman converter for free. Cool little tool to have for things like that. Does it all for you and can spit the files back to their original folder.
@spvidz Жыл бұрын
Thanks bro yeah someone has already recommended that and I've downloaded it. This is really useful if you are in a pinch though and can't get access to a computer!

Definitely great ways to use this feature, however, if you have access to a computer MediaHuman Audio Converter is free and does batch processing in seconds. I use it all the time.

Great vid! I was wondering, do you ever sync up with ableton? I was recording everything on to separate tracks like kick, snare, etc and found that I had a millisecond of latency even after messing with sample/latency settings in ableton. Have you ever had any issues like that?
@spvidz Жыл бұрын
I rarely use ableton in that way. I would probably individually export all the samples and build it from scratch as it would save a ton of headaches. In the past I’ve also just started recording on one track and played out each individual sample from the project. Then in ableton you can just cut that up and assign it to whatever track/device you need to

Nice video! I wish they gave us the option to use the mark button in legacy mode though 😢

@@spvidz of course. Dont see why they abandoned that key function. It would make sense to make skip back sampling a shift function and keep the mark button to do what it is labeled as.

is the 25 seconds "Def" short for Hi Def? is there any change in quality going to the 40 seconds?

Skip back is a big boss idea. The trouble is the way its implimented. First it was 20 seconds, then it was updated to 40 seconds. but this is frankley nothing. It might be good for a couple of bars of a beat you are working on. But for any other kind of musician, its nothing. In fact by the time you realise you might have something, and then stop what you were playing and go to hit skip back you will have lost another 10 seconds or more. What we really need is 40 mins or an hour. A device with effects which was always on, always in your audio chain, waiting for those crasy accidents, or those deep dive jams. 40 mins at 48khz is about 16 mb, this is chump change in terms of memory. Skip back is a great idea waiting to happen. If only. Sorry but im still looking for a proper skipback device, in fact im exploring arduino modules to build my own. I am that desperate. This device would take the place occupied by 'tape, or 'reel to reel', back in the day. 'Just let it roll man and we'll see what we come up with'. Instead of incrementally developing a bar, and then a beat, and then a loop. You would play to discover whole new structures or progressions, or songs.. This would flow seemlessly, after you've warmed up, after you've gotten over the shackles of muscle memory. and you were well in the zone,. The real fun would start when you were able to transfer those fresh thoughts into the digtal sphear, as reference tracks. A proper skip back would have buttons for 5 mins, 10 mins 20 mins, 40 mins. Then if you felt you had 'a moment' in the last 10 mins you would hit that button , to hold and fix that idea. boom. There is an opportunity to find whole other worlds, this could be truely scifi-isk. Project name : The memory.
