Yes you're absolutly right. The only thing i miss on the mk2 is the subsonic effect. I don't know why they removed it.
@spvidzАй бұрын
That was a great mfx. Have you tried the sound generator that they added? They added that instead of the Subsonic mfx after the community fed back. Its available if you hold down SHIFT, and RECORD SETTING
@wiggesobkАй бұрын
@spvidz no i didn't. Thanks for the info! Have you tried it?

I don't use it much but its like the Sub-sonic mfx on steroids basically! Worth having a look at for sure

the sp in general is so amazing i use my sp404mk2 and i drunkenly sent a fanmail message to roland, and their response was awesome, not only were they totally ok with me being a drunk mess lol but they literally subscribed to my channel and reminded me there was a firmware update i didnt have yet.... I am a roland fan always, i get like such a great feeling when i pull my sp404mk2 out to play a show
@crissanchez1950Ай бұрын
Just being able to control the speed (pitch) of a sample makes it so much better than the sx alone😂 I used to record chops and breaks to a four track then change the pitch and sample them again until I got something that worked.
@spvidzАй бұрын
Yeah thats definitely one I thought about mentioning! Using other gear for pitching was crazy! I used to use my 202. You can have a bit of fun using the middle dial on the DJ Looper but a dedicated pitch was another SP game changer!
@santaslilhelper4945Ай бұрын
Facts. I would spend way too much time messing with turntable pitch to beat match loops and breaks before recording in. I don't think Roland realized how many people would want to make beats in the box on the SX when they released it. Mk2 definitely feels like they really picked up on that and added everything a solid stand alone sampler should have.
@spvidzАй бұрын
yeah exactly. The sx to me now feels just like a sampler, not a beat making machine...although it was strange that they updated the pattern mode and not much else to help with that workflow. It kinda felt like they wanted to dip their toes in the water before going full stand-alone

Rookie question, can you sequence a synthesizer? I have a behringer monopoly and before I buy the spmk2 I need to know if it's possible.
@ronia8094Ай бұрын
I still do the copy & move the start point sometimes just out of habit hahaha

Crazy the progression now im 41 so when i first got it to making beats its crazy the gear im using now is classed as vintage ha ha
@spvidzАй бұрын
lol! I thinks its also mental how many devices are on the market now. When I started the channel there wasn't nearly as much stuff out there, particularly small portable samplers!
@artisans8521Ай бұрын
One great gripe with it is that it doesn't store FX settings per project or per bank. So when I put the device away I have to record them using pen and paper. Sort of a throwback in the digital age.
@spvidzАй бұрын
Yeah even on a per bank basis like I work, I have to remember what MFX I put on BUS 1 & 2 and what parameters I used

I do like the primitive workflow. Still using my OG, while having the MK2. And the sound…
@spvidzАй бұрын
OG is still kinda worth it for the sound from what I have heard. I'm not sure the SX is really, but I can definitely understand still enjoying the raw workflow!
@kaydoubleyou6203Ай бұрын
That’s what I like about the older models, you really have to work at it to get good results.

@MrMargaretScratcherАй бұрын
I did an edit of Babooshka by Kate Bush on my Akai S5000, and had to do the copy/paste method of chopping for the entire 4 or 5 minute track, with at least 2 chops per bar, sometimes 4, depending on how much I had to alter the speed to get it to stay in steady time (Which I had to do by pitching up the slice, and then using the timestretch/pitch shift function to pitch it back by the opposite amount to get it back to its original pitch) . Long. Also while watching the vid I was eyeing up my EP-133 (which I still think is great) but one of my main criticisms of it is the 4x3 pad layout, especially as its supposedly 'little brother' the PO-33 had a 4x4 layout. Some of the weird TE fanboys were trying to say the usual 'oh it's just a different workflow' but it really isn't - chopping up a section of music into 16 makes much more sense than chopping it into 12. Also, of course, we only have the one effect at a time, but at least you had resampling!
@spvidzАй бұрын
Oh damn, I've never noticed that the EP-133 can't do 16 chops! Thats crazy. Like you say, 16 is definitely a more natural feel

I bought the mk2 a few weeks ago while I started on the sx months ago. Never Made any sort of Music before because I was very bad at rythms and never considerd that I can improve. But I gave it a try and got better at it. I ve tried it years back, but at that time I was using fruity loops, which have me hell. So I tried a standalone machine. The guides on this channel made me improve my skills, even when using the sx. Thnx for that spvidz! Now that im using the mk2 I really appreciate how other people mastered the sx! Question: should I keep my sx pr sell it? I dont know if its worth keeping. Maybe I can combine it with the mk2?
@spvidzАй бұрын
Glad to hear I've helped! I guess if you can, you could wait to see if you still use it once you get to grips with the MK2. I personally don't really use it at all any more, but I would never sell mine as its a special device for me and whats happened here with the channel! Its got a lot of sentimental value for me

@SPVIDS I have a beat making emergency!!! I have a sample that I want to use in a beat but the sample was peaking when I recorded it and I can’t get rid of the sound when the volume peaks. I still have the record do I need to sample it gain and lower the input gain.
@spvidzАй бұрын
yeah, re-record it and use the meter on the right of the screen to make sure you aren't peaking. The external source button also goes red when its peaking

I kinda felt bad for the sx that you had to cover its face because of the flickering. That poor sx. ;-) I never owned an SX, but I'm curious if it had any effects that are not on the mk2.
@spvidzАй бұрын
😂 I do feel a bit sorry for it in general...been left to gather dust now that the MK2 is here
@doppelganger8659Ай бұрын
I still manual chop on the MK2 With the copy and move start point method. As far as projects, if I started a new project, I just used a new SD card. It’s faster to swap out the SD, then to switch projects. Mute groups are awesome. I’m still in the habit of just playing chops in gate mode. Depends on the beat. Sometimes it helps me “feel” it more. I dunno.

The more features the more the brand loses its character. The "no" mute group sound was the 404s signature.

Easy enough to just not use mute groups if you still want to work in that way though 🤷♂️
