Yours is the only video that I have found showing disassembly of the Manix 2 LW screw-together construction. This will definitely help when I upgrade my scales to the AWT aluminum 'skinny' scales. Thank you

Well done! That "loosen then tighten" thing for the backspacer is definitely a pro move. Its even more important when swapping blades. Probably 80% of issues people have with bladeswaps can be solved by doing that.

For stropping the washers, I got better and more consistent results by doing a figure 8. I also start off on green compound and finish off on 1 micron diamond emulsion.

Awesome, I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!
@Cooldibs

No sense in going that fine. Once you use the knife, the washers will go back to a rougher surface finish than what a 1 micron compound gives

I got one in magnacut and rit dyed the scales somewhere between army green and olive drab green with a slight pearlesnce to it. I didn't disassemble it because I tend to lose parts but because its a salt version it didn't hurt a thing.

I don't lubricate my knives anymore. The lube attracts dust, dirt, and lint. That's what fouls the action. Todays bearings or phosphor bronze washers provide enough glide to dispense with the oils. When my knife is acting slow, I simply blow some compressed air in there and I'm back to new.
@The_commonman
@The_commonman 7 ай бұрын
It’s definitely important to keep dust and dirt in mind! I use minimal lube if I know that’s going to be an issue. And that’s very true about the materials, phosphor bronze has natural lubricity, so it’s not crucial to have a lot anyway. Thanks for the comment!

Im at 8 or 9 sets of AWT on Spyderco, but with the LW Manix, i feel like Sal and Eric need to call them for an official factory collabo. Its really amazing. I thought the Native 5 was cool, this is the one.

Hey man I have a question about the lightweight. I habe a 15V manix blade that's in a lightweight frame.. I bought it this way. Im having a major issue to where the blade isn't locking up. So I guess my question is, does the lightweight blade have slightly different lock geometry or a different lock ball? Out of the 100s of blades ive had from spyderco, none of them hahe been a manix. The only reason i bought this is because the blade is 15v and its the only leaf shaped blade in this steel. (To me the best steel they made) Any help would be appreciated
@The_commonman
@The_commonman 2 ай бұрын
My understanding is the lightweight blade is slightly different than the g10 blade, which the 15v originally came as. As far as I know, the two are not compatible. Next time I take my g10 and lightweight versions apart, I’m going to see what the differences are . Sorry I couldn’t help more than that!

@@The_commonman hey ! No man that is pretty much what I was thinking too and based on aftermarket scales not being compatible with the two, that pretty much confirmed it. Thank you !

I've had manixes from original old LW versions to new G10 and LW, and none have ever worn out or shown wear. The spring does get softer with age though.

My pocket clip rivets are spinning with the screws, how do I stop this? Yours seems to just loosen.
@The_commonman
@The_commonman 9 ай бұрын
I didn’t have that issue, and having not removed the pin, I can’t say if it’s supposed to be held in place (without spinning) or not. The only thing I can think of, is to see if you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the pin end, unfortunately this may scrape up the pin. I hope that helps!

Same thing here! They must have tightened the ever living crap out of them and slathered loctite onto some. I'm debating what to try..... another video I saw the maker had to dremel a slot into the smooth capture side of his. 😬🤨

@@gregmccormack5709 I ended up snapping the scales, completely destroying them. Good thing I was putting on new scales, would definitely need a dremel if not.

where did you get this from? is it the cheapest version 2 of the LW?
@The_commonman
@The_commonman 8 ай бұрын
I got this from a small shop in Maryland, Willey Knives. I paid slightly over normal price, which is often the case when buying from a brick and mortar store. This is the most basic version of the revised Manix 2 LW, it seems like just about all retailers are now selling this updated version, for right around $130-140

You don't necessarily have to take the knife apart to dye it, especially on the magnacut version. You can just hold onto the blade and swirl the handle in the dye and get the same results 👍🏻 hope that helped at least a lil bit
