I like how the hardware on each model matches the blade finish (satin or black). Those are quite handsome, I think I'd go for the black blade as it does pop nicely with the natural G10.

I liked this so much I bought 4 of them. All of them the satin ones though, I don't like how Spyderco charges $25 more for DLC. 4" M4 with best-in-production heat-treat, bushing pivot, ergos, design, a knife that will knife. I've really got no complaints. Can't wait for you to do the HRC I'm curious to find out!

I was super happy when this came along. I've been daily carrying the original Manix 2 XL since a few months after it was released. This one has the upgraded steel from S30V, has skeletonized liners (My original one is solid liners) and the G10 is grippy again, since I've worn the G10 pretty much smooth on the original (all the jimping still makes it grip though). I had to buy a Flytanium cage for my original when I broke the initial ball cage (Their first run had some transparent cages that were too damned brittle). I've since swapped them around so my new one has the titanium cage.

The manix xl was my first good knife. I carried that knife for years, and cut a bunch of shit with it. I have a bunch of nice knives now, so he’s retired, but I still love it. Thanks for sharing LTK

What a great looking pair of knives. Did either 1 of them get tested?? Would like to know the results if they were. Amazing knife really like the XL. Not sure about a XL lightweight as long as the feel of the knife didn't change except the weight might work. The chief and the sage are also knives I hope to own in the future. Great review. Stassa said when the super Freek came out that as long as you treat it right the M4 doesn't need to be coated. He lives in a humid swamp so that is what I will do before taking it outdoors. Thank you so much for all the info on the knife.

I own a Benchmade "Super" Freek in CPM-M4 and live in a humid environment. I have seen zero corrosion on the exposed edge. I even spent a week at the coast last month with it and it got dipped into the sea water a couple of times. I washed it off but did nothing else and again zero corrosion. CPM-M4 may not be "stainless" but so far in over a year of owning mine without any extra care other than washing the blade off and wiping it down I have yet to see one spot of corrosion.

Check near the pivot and back of axis lock. It will oxidize in black color.
