Nutnfany's 4 ounce rule has to be considered in context. He's usually carrying two knives, a multitool, a flashlight and a handgun.

Been collecting knives for 18 years now, never really was a spyderco fan until now. All the sudden i now own the military, tenacious, my dads old police model, and just ordered a manix 2 xl, cannot wait to get this knife.
@pietermoore12 жыл бұрын
Great job mentioning the closing of the knife. I had a feeling you'd have to switch your grip up. I have huge hands an can just barely close it the same way I do a reg manix 2. Great review jd
@PanditaP10 жыл бұрын
People say this knife is way too big, but honestly it is not. Yes it is almost 9' long, but it does not seem as though it is a 9' knife. When I whip this out it doesn't seem intimidating to the people around me, and it fits so perfectly in the hand that I don't worry about doing little tasks with it either. I have other 9' knives that DO feel huge, but this one is simply perfect. My opening action was extremely rough when I first got it, so I dropped 2 drops of lube on the pivoting area and that fixed it and made it even better.
@RussianVitamines10 жыл бұрын
thats why i like it, good steel, ffg, and same amount of cutting edge as tenaciuos, hard to find something like that from spyderco where i live, i would take military as an edc any time, but it has tip down pocket clip, and i am not a fan of that.

Just ordered the limited version in s90v with carbon fiber. Really excited for this knife. I love my military, I have bigger hands so having a big handle is always a plus and carbon fiber is my favorite handle material along titanium. Dont know about my limited version but I know themnew manix 2 xl weigh a full ounce less now due to the liners being super skeletonized. 7f it had a black ball frame its the new ones and the s90v has the black ball frame. Ill post once I get it with the weight. Great review as always.

How do you feel about this lock over the Axis lock? I noticed that in most of the times in this video that the closure was slightly awkward, meaning that it didnt seem to fully close as you flicked it shut. Why is that? Is the jimping and that butt end horn comfortable in hard use? I love the flat ground blade too. How much does the Large Sebenza weight compared to this 6 oz knife? Where is it made USA or China? Please do a cut test, thanks!
@Traderjoe12 жыл бұрын
@jdavis882 Thanks! I just ordered one haha. I had a ball lock once but I didn't EDC it like I do my Bone Collector, so I will compare the two just to see. Does the grip for the ball lock stick out enough, and how does it compare to how the Axis sticks out? One of my concerns is how how slot for the ball lock seems angled towards the black of the handle, while the axis is more in line with the handle. But like I said, I haven't handled one in a while.

if you want to carry this as a tactical/self defense knife it makes perfect sense to have that much sticking out so you can grab it and pull it out easily and quickly

I LOVE my Spyderco Manix 2 XL. In fact, i'm getting Flytanium Titanium handles and Ball Cage for mine.
@jdavis8824 жыл бұрын
I just snagged one in the jade and M4 from blade HQ. Great knives with amazing ergos. My only gripe is that unlocking it can be difficult. I usually put the butt of thr manix 2 in my palm then pull the cage back with my middle finger and thumb. With the XL the knife is just a touch too long to make that a comfortable move. That’s a tiny gripe though, the good things outweigh that little issue by far.

What would you say is a better cutter, this or the military. I just got a Millie off amazon cause I had gift cards there but this one looks really cool. Love my Millie though
@jdavis88212 жыл бұрын
@traderjoes It was bouncing because I was holding the lock open. Same thing would happen if you held the axis lock fully open while swinging the blade shut. Honestly in my opinion the BBL is smoother than the axis. The axis has a weird "hump" in the closing feel that I don't like. The large micarta weighs in at 4.5 ounces. The Manix (all Manix knives) are made Golden, CO. I'll make sure I do a cut test. :)

is the lock as stiff as the manix 2? because that was one thing that bothered me on the manix 2
@kodiak69012 жыл бұрын
I just got this knife. It is my first Spyderco but I am a long time knife collector. The one I have is smooth opening but stiff. Now I can loosen the torx but then there is side to side blade play. Is this normal with spyderco? When torx tightened no blade play bit stiff. Thanks
@TNTnetTV10 жыл бұрын
I noticed my non-xl manix 2 blade is not as shine as the the XL. Could it be fake? I heard someone got a fake Military so not sure if this also a case for Manix 2....
@TheHindy10 жыл бұрын
Usually the Chinese companies go after the REALLY popular really expensive Spydies, like the Military and Paramilitary2, I've never heard of a Manix 2 being faked, but I could be wrong. You can usually tell if it's a fake just by the texture of the G10, they use a really slick G10 that feels almost like Zytel, not really grippy at all. Hope that helps.

Point of interest. The "jimping" that is part of the liners (ie not the choil/thumb ramp) is is referred to as prowed liners. This I heard in an interview with Ed Schempp discussing the Manix 2.

Depends on the grind as to how a blade will look with that 30 degree relief angle or edge angle. And if you have a micro bevel or not. My 940 looks no where near that keen yet its sitting around 20 degrees.

If I am used to carrying a cold steel voyager large, would this be much of a difference size and weight wise?
@John_BP10 жыл бұрын
Good review, however i will have to disagree with you on weight. I just recently picked up a cold steel recon 1 and it feels like a brick in my pocket by comparison, way to much grip under the clip too. I guess the endura 4 (my edc going on a year now) has spoiled me, i just love that knife.

I definitely feel a big difference between a 5 ounce and a 4 ounce knife in my pocket when I wear jeans... and a very big difference between a 4 ounce and 6 ounce! The Rat 1 is only 5 ounces and has a big flat grind blade. A large Cold steel voyager with a huge 4" blade weighs only 4.75 ounces. 6 ounces is pretty heavy for daily carry but worth it for the right knife.

Funny in your S30V test you praised out of S30V and in this vid you said you killed S30V. In what video did you kill S30V??? I searched. S30V's main characteristic is when blade begins to wear it turns into a good work edge and stays there for a long time.
