Although the Civilian is the original the Black Talon ii is a improved beast. It's like the Ford raptor of self defense knives😎💪

@@VinterEvig maybe cs has more premium materials. But with that reverse s blade geometry and serrations vg 10 is more than enough. Plus, you don't have to lug a big ass CS knife around. Lastly, spyderco an american company (although this is manufactured in Japan). With that said, the customer service is better and easier to get your blade sharpened or parts replaced. Cold steel is no longer own an ran by Lynn Thompson and Andrew Demko (the genius). Spyderco is still ran by the Glesser's.

@@Apex_grind562 I have both, the BT2 is considerably tougher, smoother, better materials, sharper and a better grip on the “Wave Feature”. I don’t care where CS is made, they’re more reliable than anything Spyderco makes.

The Spyderco wave feature is the only officially licensed one as well so I'm not surprised that it works better since the removable plate on the cold steel is a workaround

I've got a blacked out Matriarch 2, and I've gotten mine to a place where I can spydey flick it, as well as flick my wrist to open it. And I agree, the Emerson wave on it is phenomenal! My knife does have the wisemen signet ring extension on it, but that was not by choice. I actually prefer the forward sabre grip, using the signet as a pommel as opposed to the reverse grip karambit style. Great review, bro!

Good vid sir. Both great knives, but the Spyderco Matriarch and Civilian are two excellent purpose-built Spydercos. 👍🏻

I own both these knives. Although I like the serrations better on the Spyderco, the feel of both knives in hand I feel the cold steel is less likely to break if u actually had to use it in a "SD" situation. The Spydercos feel a lot more "fragile" than the cold steel. This is obviously my personal NON proportional opinion 🤷

I've been carrying the Matriarch for a while whenever a needed a low profile defensive blade. However lately I moved to a Massad Ayoob in cruwear because while keeping most of the defensive benefits of the Matriarch is more utilitarian. I can actually use it as EDC also because even if it's not razor sharp it doesn't lose its main feature which is its stabbing ability. Have you ever tried one? Curious to know what your feelings are about those

I just recently picked up the matriarch, I've had a cold steel talon for a while but it ate up too much pocket real-estate. Much happier with the spyderco to say the least.

As a Colectors piece..... I guess I can see why you choose the Spyderco..... I have the Black Talon and the Civilian....... As a real defense tool the Cold Steel is WAY better.

I had the matriarch and no matter what I tried the open was stubborn. I also don't like the spyderco handles for whatever reason. Waiting for the plain blade cold steel to start shipping. I have XL hands and prefer larger thicker handles in the end. Sent Matriarch back.

That Black Talon II is a dangerous blade, not sure if I've ever seen a better folder built specifically for self defense & slashing. If someone busts one of these out with intentions, get TF out of there. Lol JS.

I have the Black talon 2 Spyderco civilian n matriarch 2 I personally carry a recon 1 for my EDC usable 🔪 & my Spyderco matriarch 2 stays in my right pocket in case God forbid I ever have to use it but I've never cut 1 thing with my matriarch 2 & have carried it for 5 years! Lol

The matriarch 2 is so much lighter than any of the other two knives so it's just so easy to carry and the blade is a little shorter but it's more than long enough to do damage! One is not better than the other just difference depending on how big you are yourself how big your hands are and what makes you feel confident. All extreme quality 🔪

The Matriarch and Civilian have better serrations than Cold Steel's serrations. I would take the Spyderco's over Cold Steel for this reason. If I went for a Black Talon I would go for the nonserrated version.
