This came up in my feed. I own this same knife. Also have an older Military with S30V and this was definitely an upgrade. One of the sharpest factory grinds I've experienced, and an excellent working edge. I've only stropped it. As for carry, even though I greatly prefer tip up, I like tip down on the Military. Pulling it out puts the finger right on the hole. Instantly. The light weight, the ergonomics, the amazing action right out of the box, the versatility, the blade geometry, and the pure joy of using it makes the Military a special kind of beast. Even though this is the only 4" blade I own - most of what I have and carry is significantly smaller - love this thing! FWIW, the blade on mine was/is dead nuts center. Enjoyed the video.

I have the OG Military in M4, this year I snagged the Military 2 with the Compression Lock in S30V and S110V, the Compression Lock turned that knife into the BadAssery level!

Just ordered the Military 2 in S110V. The scratches on your blade look like they are from the Ken Onion Sharpmaker. If you don't clean the angle guide, it gets grit on it and scratches up your blade. PITA to keep it clean. I only use it for convex blades now because of this. Sharpmaker works fine for most of my needs. This steel isn't very tough, so I will hopefully enjoy the edge retention and not beat it. It's probably going to be cutting food and envelopes mostly.

Just coming across your channel. Good review, I like how you concentrate your analysis on this steel especially since spyderco is pumping out super steel after super steel. Its a little overwhelming when deciding on which to get.

If you did not get that knife from Spyderco or one of there recomended dealers then send it in to get checked if it is a fake spyderco. Spyderco will do a annaylises for you & charge $5 for return shipping. Looks like it might be a fake by the black belt clip & off center so much.

First time I sharpened this steel I thought it was defective or that I was doing something wrong. It barely shaves but as it turns out, thats due to the composition the alloy. It as as others say, intentional because the actual working edge will hold forever. It does trigger my OCD somewhat because "not shaving hair" is where I usually take to sharpening or stropping my blades. When moved in a cutting or slicing motion, this steel will bite aswell as any razor however. I took to carrying a TOPS MSK neck knife along with this, just in case I need a smooth razor sharp 1095 edge.

Good video but I have no problem sharpening S110V with a Sharpmaker and just the included medium and fine rods. Just takes a little patience

You should probably avoid discussing steels and sharpening - best to not try to discuss things you know very little about. That was painful to listen to.

Just placed my order for this knife. Will be my fifth spyderco. I have the pm2 with black dlc blade and digicam scales, the Resilience, a Manix 2 xl, and an endura 4 in zome green. Been very satisfied with all of them. I use the spyderco sharpmaker and it works fairly well. I'd like to get something better though, maybe an apex pro or something similar. My problem is that I always feel I'd rather spend that much money on another knife(s)!

s110v seems to like only being sharpened up to 400 or 600 grit, some people also get good results using diamond stones followed with a few passes on a 1 micron diamond strop

You should watch Big Brown Bears videos on s110v. It might help explain things.

The beauty of these steels is not maintaining a razor edge. It loses razor sharpness relatively fast, it's the working edge that stays forever. With this steel forget about mirror polished edges, you want that edge toothy as you can. 800 grit is as far as I'd go. If you're into the aesthetic, mirror polish it, but put a 600grit microbevel. It will last a shitwhile.
@aragonanalytics32877 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip...it has been tough figuring out what to so with this steel and the S90V on my Benchmade. Itried going with the coarse microbevel and then using a honing belt to straighten out the edge...it is is working great. This S110V is miles better than the S90v i have used. So far, my limited experience has shown me that S35VN is my favorite knife steel so far. Since self defense blades are my priority, ability to take a fine edge and ability to withstand shock are much more important to me than edge retention. The s35vn I have takes an absolutely insane edge, and it is easy to sharpen.

Thanks for your opinion on this steel. I just bought my first Spyderco Para Military 2 with this exact steel so this was good timing. I was second guessing that maybe I should've gone with the basic PM2 SV30. Still waiting for deliver of my new knife!

I agree with your assessment on S110v. I noticed with the high carbide steels, that it's not worth trying to go higher than 300 on my KME sharpener. I'm a huge advocate of working edges as opposed to pretty, polished edges. Good video.

Hi there, i just stumbled accross your channel. Super hi def and nice shirt too :p Ive noticed high vanadium steels need diamond to sharpen them. Im not sure what the kews uses for belts on the fine stuff. I did some testing on my S110V ukpk if u want to check it out, i have had mine for 3 days and i am able to get a hair whittling edge using 8k diamond dmt and my strop. Im on a quest to find what has the best finer edge retention and easy to maintain ratio.

I just got this knife today and am worried about sharpening it. I have a spyderco sharpmaker with diamond and ultra fine stones as well as the basic stones. Any tips or recommendations for sharpening with this system? I appreciate your help and advice!!!
@no1up5 жыл бұрын
Use a sharpie. Marked the edge. Run it a few times, if you're removing the ink you're solid. Keep that angle and move to the other side. Personally I like to lay the rods flat and sharpen like a bench stone. Dan's Arkansas medium bench stone works amazingly well with my PM2 s110v

I still don't understand why they didn't give us the four way clip everyone has asked for so long,they even did something different with the military recently but still no change on the clip...
@aragonanalytics32877 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain. As a member of the "tip down carry minority". I am often frustrated that some of my favorite designs don't allow for all four clip positions. For instance, I love my ZT 0452CF, but it is tip up only. I think the problem with the Military is that it only has partial steel liners, and therefore nothing for the screws to be tapped in to for tip up carry.
