The action sounds SO MUCH better than before you took it apart, and after you lubed the blade it's a big difference. The native cheif is on my HIT LIST along with the Yojumbo. My wife bought me a Manix XL a couple of years ago and the action was stiff/sticky, maybe not sticky but it wouldn't flick open even when new out of the box, and finally decided I was gonna take it apart to clean and lube it, but when I got to actually doing it I decided NOT to take it all apart and just loosened the pivot screws most of the way out and gave it a good bath with rubbing alcohol, let it dry really good then give it a tiny shot of CLP, tightened the pivot screws back down to the desired blade tension and the action is absolutely perfect now. I have the black blade and the only complaint about the knife is it has buffed while closed in my pocket along with the top of the liners plus a couple scratches from change in my pocket, it's not a deal breaker because I absolutely love the knife and bought one years ago at a flea market for $50 new in the box. Before that, I have to be honest, I used to hate Spydercos because to me they all had pretty much the same blade shape and DIDN'T like the hole, BUT,,, that all changed after I bought that one and it was all over from there, you see I'm a figiter and the flick with the thumb or back flick with the hole that makes them SO OBVIOUSLY simple and effortless to use, but yes, I'm addicted and have more Spydercos than any other brand of knives. I like bigger blades,4-5 inches or close to it so keep thise bigger blades coming. Might give a DLC coating a try to keep from the scratches and buffing. The buffing on my Manix XL is on the top of the blade in the shape of the scales but still a great knife of course. Going to Blade Show Texas at the end of the month so we'll see if if I chalk up full price on the Yojumbo or NATIVE CHIEF, or not, was gonna buy the Yojumbo at last years Texas Blade Show but,,, there absolutely none in the whole building. Stay safe and God bless.

Would really like to see Spyderco step up their game with some well designed deep carry clips
@Larry_Mott
@Larry_Mott 4 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling Spyderco (and I) does not consider deep carry clips a step up.. :)
@matchesburn
@matchesburn 4 жыл бұрын
I fail to see how the current Endura/Delica style clips that are used on so many designs are somehow not "deep enough" to carry. With most knives you're still talking about half an inch or less potentially riding over the pocket liner. Plus, you can go on Ebay, Etsy, BladeHQ or a myriad of other sites and get custom carry clips that are as wacky or extreme as you want. And I would rather you do that than make the rest of us deal hooked over carry clips or recessed pivots or something. Because for most people it's already "deep" enough.
@Jack3dBrett
@Jack3dBrett 4 жыл бұрын
I agree it would be awesome if they offered a deep carry clip option like their anti gun competitor does (we wont say their name) but I find that the MXG clips are awesome and they offer a ton of different options.
@lenzielenski3276
@lenzielenski3276 4 жыл бұрын
@@matchesburn Deep enough depends on the prevailing political climate. As to buying a 3rd party clip, the knives are over priced as it is and you want to add another $20 for a clip? A clip that made in existing factories, with existing tooling would actually cost $.01 to make? That is just stupid. The pat answer from Sal and Eric has been "we don't want to take away from the 3rd parties already making clips". BS. They are all about profit. I suspect it is sheer laziness.
@matchesburn
@matchesburn 4 жыл бұрын
@@lenzielenski3276 "Deep enough depends on the prevailing political climate." ...No, just deep enough so all that can be seen is some clip on a pocket. "As to buying a 3rd party clip, the knives are over priced" LOL, no. Look up the prices of steel and look into the process of heat treating and machining. Even Chinese-made knives from the same materials (like from companies that will actually do so and not just claim to and lie about it - something reputable like WE Knives or the like) are similarly expensive. "as it is and you want to add another $20 for a clip?" Why not? Minuscule cost compared to the knife and you get to pick whatever you want. Why are you even complaining about this? "A clip that made in existing factories, with existing tooling would actually cost $.01 to make?" Proof positive that you don't understand the first thing about manufacturing and what goes into your making. That existing tooling is designed and set-up to run specific patterns. Spyderco can easily laser cut, as is demonstrated by their SpyderHole opening, but they'd need tooling (or to pay someone to) to deburr it. And fold it. Or stamp it out. And in the meanwhile this means that same tooling and machinery can't be used making more useful things. So basically you want a knife of the same quality in materials made to your specifications with exactly what kind of clip and hardware you want on it for less than the price of what you're already paying. Yeah, not even the Chinese can do that. Unless you're okay with mystery metals and them skipping manufacturing steps. Which, given how demanding you are yet are unwilling to pay for it, is questionable. And if you think myself and Spyderco are just full of it... open up your own knife company and prove me wrong. If you're right (you aren't) you'll make a killing in the market by offering quality work at good prices and having lots of options. I think you'll find out in a nanosecond that you're not grasping the realities of the situation and you'd never be able to do what you claim and still make a profit. But, hey, maybe myself, Chinese wage slaves and the Chinese communist government, Spyderco, the entire knife industry and everyone else and Len Zielenski is right.

19:54 - Saving this for posterity for the next time I get flak for being a tip-down carry guy. If it's good enough for Eric Glesser, it's good enough for you. Would be nice if *_CERTAIN COMPANIES_* (coughKershawcough) that were so slow on having tip-UP option for customers and now omit tip-DOWN carry for most of their designs would keep that in mind. But it's even better for Spydies because you can Spyder-drop them to open them one handed. Also, I just ordered a Native Chief from BladeHQ. I've taken multiple Endura/Delica and Stretches (my Stretch 2 was a pain with the lockback lock and getting it in just the right place under spring tension so you can get the pin through it). Tried to take apart my Matrix, apparently Hulk was working at the factory that day and the screws were practically welded in place. Stopped, wisely, and thought back that maybe that wasn't the best knife to disassemble. Heard horror stories of the PM2's lanyard hole during disassembly and decided not to. It's just too tempting to take apart most knives knowing how only a few minutes with polishing the blade tang and washers can make the knife so much more enjoyable and smoother than it ever would be with just lube. Actually had a problem with my Manix being rather stiff and seeming to have a lot of resistance (even after destroying my thumbs a few thousand times opening and closing it at first) - which lead to me my attempt to disassemble it. After stopping at that, I did the next best thing and... Just to as an aside here, I know someone from Spyderco will eventually read this - perhaps someone from the warranty department is already biting their nails and having cold sweats at the idea of this monkey with a knife a Torx driver - but I've never actually sent in a knife for warranty to any company, let alone Spyderco. (I have had to get new clips from Kershaw before and... maybe something happened to my Stretch's torx bits one time and... someone from warranty wasn't have a bad day and sent me replacement screws... Sorry... That was before I bought Wiha drivers.) But... I put a dab of Flitz, great polishing compound, on the Matrix ball bearing and worked it in for a few minutes and rinsed it out very, very well. Cleaning and drying and lubing it was as smooth as glass. That was years ago and I still have my Matrix 2 - first Spyderco, by the way - with the saber grind and it's still going strong. And I'll cut off one of my fingers before I let my Stretch 2 go. God I love that knife. Now if you're Kershaw employee, oh boy. I could tell you some horror stories. Or show you. Let's just say I have an Elmax Blur as a casualty that is, frankly, horrifying to look at.

Why doesn’t Spyderco make more lock backs with 4-way locations for the pocket clip? I would have bought the Military years ago, but I won’t carry a knife in my pocket that opens to the inside, and certainly not when it’s tip up. This knife is beautiful and may very well be my next knife, but it would be tough to give up my Endura 4 with sage green G10’s.

Dai oh…
