Do you have any experience with the Manix 2 LW as far as swapping scales/ball cages? I’ve heard a LOT of conflicting information related to swapping the LW ball cages for flytanium. Some people say it works even though the company itself says it won’t. Thanks
@DXSharpening2 ай бұрын
I do not have any experience with that, I have read some posts on reddit and comments on KZbin saying people have done it and I would imagine if flytanium is selling them they would fit as flytanium is a pretty reputable company. I do know there are many disassembly videos for the Manix 2 online and if you can disassemble it and reassemble it I don't see why you couldn't swap out the ball cage, but again I'm not super familiar with it. I have a factory second manix 2 that I like, but i don't really spend much time messing with it. Hope that helps, if not I'm guessing there are some comments under popular disassembly videos that might be helpful as well.

Also i missed this in the first comment, I have no idea if you can take apart the lightweight Manix without issue... I know there are some things with the Para 3 lightweight that get stripped if you try to take it apart so I would try to find someone with a ligtle more experience with the Manix... I'll pin this to see if someone can help you out!

I have put the alum or Ti flytanium ball cages in about 30 manix 2 LWs from the rivited together ones that I do a screw together mod on to the CQI screw together models from the factory and yes the aluminum or Ti ball cages work on them without any issue what so ever.

Your informative and easy going “conversational” style is really refreshing as someone who’s new to the hobby and used to the flashy pocket-jewelry chasing, hype-steel obsessed channels that are common place.

Thank you so much for the support! I'm glad to hear it's refreshing, that's exactly what I set out to do when I started making these videos. There's a lot of commentary on knives that I really don't care about and that aren't what I was particularly looking for so I figured there was a set of people interested in the same things I was and I'm glad to see that it seems like there is. Thank you again so much for the support, I'm going to continue with this comparison theme next week, are there any knives you'd like to see?

Good video, I've had both these knives and have since sold them both so I'll give my opinion that they're not bad if your really trying to save weight but personally if you like thier design I recommend getting an aluminum version of the bugout or the full weight version of the para 3. I think I'm just done with this light weight craze, just seems like companies trying to convince us that plastic handles are a good direction for us when really it's just good for them (my opinion of course)

I totally agree with you, I think there is a place for lightweight knives but it's been blown totally out of proportion. At a certain point becoming lighter and lighter doesn't make any real different and I'd rather have some extra durability and a higher quality feel than .02 oz shaved off... thanks for watching and for the comment!

Bugouts are amazing edc knives super lightweight and thin, disappears in pocket. Not meant for hard use but definitely more knife than most people need opening their chip bags and Amazon packages. I never got why people would complain about the plastic on a bugout and throw on metal scales for $$....just get a Hinderer by then.
@DXSharpening2 ай бұрын
There are lots of aftermarket scales but I understand not wanting to have to buy additional scales when you're shelling out that kind of money for a knife. Thanks for watching!

I put flytanium garage sale scales for $12 on my bugout and it feels better. Well worth the $12.

Glad to hear it!

The performance difference between bd1n and s30v with both having a great heat treatment will be negligible in use at best and in the case of Benchmade done s30v the spyderco done bd1n will blow it out the water. Benchmade has not been putting out good s30v for a long time now, the whole s30v is chippy thing started because of Benchmades s30v it's just not done very well.

one will last a lifetime, the other will get you a solid 2 years of use. cheers!

You might be lucky to get 2 years, I got a few months before having to get it fixed...

Spyderco quality is where it’s at,Benchmade is overrated and overpriced. Good video bro.

Except in this case the LW is off center by design for some stupid reason. I like spyderco but the LW models are cheaply made.
@DXSharpening2 ай бұрын
@whatfreedom7 due to a washer on one side. I actually would have agreed with you before I got one, seemed like cheap steel and bad plastic but I think the para 3 lw is genuinely the best spyderco I own.
@whatfreedom72 ай бұрын
Mine is a rec exclusive and the first LW I bought. Between that and the lock stick I was a little let down. If it were a standard model I probably wouldn’t care so much. I can always go get some AWT scales and ditch the plastic.
@DXSharpeningАй бұрын
@whatfreedom7 that sucks, sorry to hear it, I have ordered 3 different para 3 lws for gifts and they've all had the best action on any spyderco I have... similarly the standard p3 i have has the best compression lock out of all of my spydercos as well. Maybe you got a bad one?
@colinburgess9455Ай бұрын
I own the bugout but from what Ive come to realise now neither one is worth what they’re asking money wise.

Probably fair to say!

After blade steel and opening mechanism, blade shape can define knife, The cutting edge, specifically. Everyone LOVES Spyderco...the cutting edge is the same shape as every other knife. It's a sharpened edge. It cuts stuff. All of these bullshit knives do almost the same thing. Give me a good edge that I can sharped without a god damn laser beam, and I'll show you a good knife. I don't care about the handle. I don't care about the opening mechanism. I don't care about the looks. I care about cutting and sharpening. Oh it's an OTF? It's a chopper? It's an EDC? It has SERRATIONS? OMG. It's a god damned knife. You can pull one out of the knife drawer in you kitchen and tote it around and say, "I scout carry." Whatever the fuck that means. Also, your Subarus is on fire.
