The Stretch 2 in K390 is one of the most perfectly focused knife designs. Every design choice made is the best for a beater blade that you don't have to care about. From the steel, to the edge geometry, to the rigid lined handles and generous choils, and finally the price. It's just a symphony of awesome design choices.

I absolutely love this knife! Since I got it a few months ago, it has taken over my pocket. I carry this knife more than any other knife I own, and I own a lot!

The Stretch 2 is was actually produced to be a hunting knife, and that’s exactly what I bought and use mine for. It’s a laser beam on white tailed deer

I can actually see that now that you say it. I generally use a medium fixed blade or sometimes a large drop point folder or even a hawkbill for gutting but that could definately work.

FRN might feel cheap and look fugly, and a back lock action might be boring af, but if you’re most concerned about the quality of this knife AS A TOOL… then the K390 Stretch2 is pretty amazing. Ergos, solid lockup, and the blade matter for that, and this knife really excels in those departments.

I've wanted a Police 4 in K390 until I handled one at the gunshow... I have big hands and that knife is huge. The Stretch 2 in K390 is damn near perfect in every way.

I threw a Spyderco pewter bead lanyard on mine and it looks sick. Perfect looking with the black pocket clip. Lately I've been carrying this knife, and rotating it with my PM2 CruCarta, and my Delica 4 in M4. I'd LOVE to have the G10 Stretch, but it's insanely expensive for some reason, it's around 400$ now for a G10 handle knife. Insane!

I used to think the same way about the FRN scales on the Seki city Spyderco models, but I bought a Delica 4 in M4 and fell in love with it for edc, it's sturdy enough for anything you'd need to do with a pocket knife, and it's a great weight. I really started to prefer the FRN models to carry bc I get great quality and won't cry if I happen to lose it. I've been thinking about getting another Yojimbo 2, I love that knife but I don't ever carry it bc I'm afraid to break the tip off, and it's a self defense based knife, but I've heard it's actually awesome for edc, but that tip makes me paranoid, and it was a gift from my father, so I can't use the one I own now, so I need to get my hands on another one I can use and not feel guilty if it chips.

For me, all my Spyderco knives are handled in FRN. I view the knives as tools. The better value I get from my tools as long as they do their job just as well, it works for me.

Love my stretch k390, frn quality is very nice imo, steel liners too. I can spydee flick mine with zero wrist action after adding some kpl and tweaking the pivot. Swapped out the clip for a long blue anodized lynch clip. Lucky to find mine for $135 delivered. Slow roll is like butter and the click sound is addicting, my fave Spyderco ❤ and thank you for another great video 👍

Got the new, 2023, Lil Temperance 3LW!!! Great for legality carry, Sub 3”, for many places. The stout robust blade suits well with K390. Looks at 1st not most appealing but grows on you, feels def a true hard user which in turn works for Spydie FRN. Would be nice to see a review on it?!?!

Grew up with lockbacks and traditional, closed them by rubbing the back of the blade against my hip, no problem. Yeah g10 is preferable but spydercos frn is great to actually use daily. Want the bad with this steel. Thanks

I keep coming back to this knife when I get that new knife itch. I'm a huge fan of tool steel blades for the edges they're capable of achieving and how long they hold them. Stainless definitely has it's place but, given reasonable care and maintenance, I've never had any issue with tool steel blade corrosion. The FRN doesn't really bother me: it makes for a lightweight edc, offers solid grip security during use and can save a few dollars on the purchase price. While I prefer canvas micarta, if everything else about the knife is designed and executed well, FRN isn't a deal breaker. I'd really like to see the Stretch 2 and Native 5 side by side. The grip ergonomics seem similar and I'm really enjoying my Rex 45 Native 5 LWT.

Keep your index finger up towards the blade and shake it shut, the finger choil will land on your finger , then use your index to close it the rest of the way. Great design

The Stretch 2 lightweight has always been one of my all-time favorite Spyderco knives. Why, because the Stretch 2 lightweight is for me that perfect size between the Endure and Delica, and the Stretch 2 Lightweight has significantly better ergonomics than the Endura or Delica because the Stretch 2 lightweight has a really good forward finger choil!!! Also, Spyderco released several years ago a standard production version(non-straight spine) of the Stretch 2 Lightweight with British Racing green FRN handles and ZDP-189 blade steel!!!

Bento box had /has exclusive on g10 k390 PM2 and 3, they were about $200 and 180 on release a couple years ago. I’d guess that only the color of the G10 was exclusive.

Love spyderco. But come on , Glesser's, isn't it time for wire clips and Casey Lynch clips on everything ?
@Crusty_Otter Жыл бұрын
I've put LynchNW clips on most of my carry knives and really like them. Didn't care for the way it fit my Pro-Tech TR-3 and didn't work for my old Benchmade 750 frame lock but otherwise, they've been great - especially the fully machined Sebenza clip. Thought I'd try something different on my Native 5 and ordered an MXG. It's working out well but I'd prefer it used all three grip screws instead of just two. Don't care for Spyderco's wire clips though, too fragile.

@oceanwaves832 жыл бұрын
K390 is superior to zdp in almost every way. Zdp has the edge in corrosion resistance, but zdp can still rust.
@Freakmaster4808 ай бұрын
K390 is the generally better steel. K390 gets it's edge retention from A big dose of vanadium with a small ammount of tungesten. Zdp-189 gets it's edge retention from purely chrommium carbide. Since chromium carbides are so soft, it has to hsve a way higher overall carbide load to achieve the same effect. The end effect is that zdp-189 is either on par or slightly ahead in edge retention at a given hardness but massively less tough. Even though it has way more chromium than k390, it's only slightly more stain resistant because almost all of that chromium is bound up in carbides. The only noticable advantage in use for zdp is that it's tends to sharpen easier on older abrasives.

On a personal note, I totally agree with the FRN opinion. My first knife was the Manix 2 lightweight and it just feels cheap. Would love to find nice micarta scales for it someday.
@Crusty_Otter Жыл бұрын
Check out Ripp's Garage Tech, they make micarta scales for a few Spydercos. I think they do Manix 2 scales but can't swear to it. Prices aren't too bad either. Edit: looks like Ripp's doesn't do Manix scales after all. Might be someone else making them, maybe Cuscadi?

Take a dremel with a carbide burr and grind 0.010" off of the cantilevered root of the lock spring. This cuts the spring's spring constant in half and makes the action butter-smooth. It completely changes the knife's personality.
@optimuscrime6082 жыл бұрын
It’s already butter smooth lol

@@optimuscrime608 My Native 5 LWT has finally broken in to where I can thumb flip it, I wasn't sure it would. Still can't Spydie flick it though. Do the lightweights just take more time to get there? With the blade riding directly on the FRN instead of washers I'm not sure what to expect on this one.

I love a lot of spyderco's designs but that frn they use kills them for me. Just use g10 or something. There are so many I would buy if they would spend the extra 10 cents to use a more attractive material. They use great steel and awesome designes and throw those cheap scales on it. It's criminal. I want to like it but it's just plain ugly.
@tomsoja65499 күн бұрын
It’s a user knife tho. I think that’s why they have a non coated k390 on it as well. Just meant to be abused. Plus it has liners so it’s not like a Manix 2 lw that feels cheap. Plus it allows them to keep the price at 140$. Cuz in reality it’s basically a back lock pm2 if they came in g10 and the k390 would run the price to 200$

It’s ridiculous that any company uses those handles, especially a company that charges no less than $120 per knife. This one has those awful scales, that awful clip, and isn’t even a compression lock for $140? I don’t care if the steel is Z9000, it’s just not worth it and again, there are SO many better options out there from all the China companies that some people like to hate on with some fake moral compass. Plain and simple. I just don’t get the Spyderco fascination and why they get put on a pedestal for making knives that are basically all the same design and made with mediocre materials at a very premium price. I’m done. Thanks for letting me vent here 🤣
