Spyderco Stretch II ZDP-189 Knife Review

Why are spyderco knives so... addictive? Their like pokemon cards and younger kids. Ever since I bought my first spyderco I just keep wanting more, before that I thought they were over priced for what they are and ugly a lot of the time. Anyone else hooked on Spyderco folders?

@fulie1 It does have an unusual look. That's what I though for a long time before I handled, bought and used one. The shape is very purposeful though. When you get it in hand and use it, you find a definite controllability. It is great for detail work. When a blade has that on it's side you have to weigh what is more important. Looks or functionality. The Stretch(as do most Spyderco) has the latter in spades.

thats aweome john. good idea. we are picking up a laptop on the blackfriday sales at walmart. so by the day after thanksgiving teresa will have her a new school computer. thats how we got the one that was destroyed. it was 200bucks new on sale. it was fast and good enough for college and youtube. all for 200bucks. we have the money together and ready. it just sucks that teresa already had to withdraw that semester. i appreciate the support. and your subs support. thx.

I bought the Carbon Fiber version a few month back and let me just tell you, its wonderful! It's weight is a little more than the frn handled version but only but and half ounce. Also there is absolutley NO blade wobble because of the strong steel liners and studry carbon fiber. Another positive is the Carbon Fiber feels exactly like G10 and is extremely grippy! One of my favorite EDC blades for sure. Great review jdavis!

I hope they come out with another Stretch in G10 Or CF. I own all the FRN versions and their easily my favorites now out of my high end Spydies.The Disco'd CF is above my league pricewise for now. I'm looking forward to the new Spyderco Starmate though!

@ultragooey No they are fairly similar in size, but the Stretch is by FAR more ergonomic than the Bradley. Don't get me wrong, the BG is an awesome knife, just not nearly as comfortable. :)

My love is for the spyderco tuff with the cpm 3v steel you cant get much better then that.

I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. What do you think about the Stretch ZDP189 as an EDC or what other one would you say is the best? I have a Pacific Salt H1A Caly3 with ZDP189 and a Moon Glow Spyderco. You take care.

@newcoyote Oh I definitely agree. Looks like it performs great. Just not my cup of tea thats all. Good thing their are many many different knives lol. I do like spydercos designs, just not that one. My Para2 is my second favorite knife next to my Umnum.

@newcoyote Yep he is right about that. Its hard not to like the para2, and I bet if I actually hold or use a stretch I will love it just like you did with the para2. Its just, their are so many I have on my list to get lol

i love the blade shape on the stretch. the only problem with it is that alot of the blade sticks out of the handle. so it gets bunches of smudges and gunk on it. mine is vg10 and it seems to just suck a finger print in. it holds onto it and turns colors. i dont know. i would like to see vg-10 going through your cut test. zdp-189 can definitely be called a super steel. companies seem to throw that buzz word out alot. but zdp deserves it. love the blue color handle. love that blue.

Too bad you missed the original Carbon Fiber/ZDP 189 editions. They're collectible, and they open waaay better than the plastic handle models.

@fulie1 This is the thing. I agree with nutnfancy on this. His two kinds of cool philosophy. We can discuss, debate & even argue about the practical points of a knife design. Function, ability, material & so on. We can not however say anything about a mans taste. "Second kind of cool". That is off limits. If you just don't like it,(looks) that's it. Funny you mention the Para2. I just bought one. Never liked the looks so much. Now that I DID get one, I freaking LOVE it.

i think its the best edc by far.. if they made a bigger size id buy it too the blade shape is awesome the steel is awesome ergo is amazing.. great knife.

I've been really impressed with the CPM-M4 on my Military, so I'm thinking about a Gayle Bradley. It looks similar to the stretch in profile, but smaller. Is it a big size difference between the 2?

i like the strecth the knife your holding,but only thing putting me off is the price,for just a little more you can buy a gayle bradley with basic same blade shape with a more robust frame and steel liners,G10 scales,this is thought on this stretch LW version,way to much $$$ for what your getting,thanks.

ended up getting two of the same stretch GV-10 black FRN versions,and two gayle bradley 1)because there both are being discontinued!both are vary good blades and a value $$$ i think.
