I’ve encountered fake ZT knives at the local knife shows here in Texas. I always check stock pictures from Blade hq with the knives at the booths if I don’t feel right about the knife in question. When I told the seller I believed it was a fake he dropped the price $50 bucks which was a clear signal to walk on. 😂👍

another problem with amazon/ebay is that even if the seller is legit, sketchy buyers will return a fake knife and keep the real one.

I remember when some stores used to sell videos cards and allow returns no question asked. They didn't even check or able to identify if the card returned was real! It actually crossed my mind to buy an expensive one and then return a cheap card instead and get my money back but my consciousness wouldn't allow me to do it lol. These days they do not allow video card returns if the box was opened (probably because someone scammed them already lol)

I've had my yojimbo 2 for 3 years now and it's become my favorite knife, but recently a co-worker of mine snapped the tip (stabbing an old phone in our lost and found don't ask) and I was able to regrind the blade with my grandpa. It has even more value to me now because of that.

Some things I noticed from comparing this Yojimbo 2 and my own Yojimbo 2: the pocket clip is too wide, the bevel on the scales is too large of a radius, the blade seems to have some rounded edges which should be fairly sharp, the opening hole seems too large, the screws look beadblasted while they should be slightly polished. As well as the very obvious etchings on the blade pointed out, which should smoothly contour to the handle scales.

You can tell by the G10 scales also they are the wrong texture and the way the edges are rounded are off also.

Recently purchased a ZT 0450CF from amazon and it was sold by amazon directly and i got a fake. Ive ordered knives in the past from amazon and never had issues except that one time. Called amazon and they sent a replacement the next day and it was a real one.

6:50 VERY important, you can't even buy from Amazon's stock and have 100% chance of a real knife. They don't always get their stock straight from the manufacturer. Only if it says "by Spyderco" below the item title can it be 100%. And even then, I've had Amazon fuck my shipment up before so there's no telling.

Here's how I avoid fakes... You buy from legit websites... I UNIVERSALLY buy from KnifeCenter or BladeHQ. That's it.

For 95% of my blades, I go to those websites as well. There are a few decent dealers beyond that online that I have had no issue with, but I'm mainly going to them, because they have an exclusive I want.

There are plenty of legit knife dealers on eBay that sell high end knives Just make sure they’re an authorized dealer of whatever knife brand you’re looking to buy

Two things that caught my eyes was the grind below the Spydie hole on the presentation side is wrong and the blade tang is rounded it should be square, I used ebay for pictures

Not always true about Amazon. They will intermingle stock from multiple sellers in their warehouses. It is very possible to purchase a counterfeit item “fulfilled by Amazon” sold by the OEM. Google Amazon counterfeit merchandise.

yeah i got one of these but when its only like 15 dollars i knew what i signed up for.. i only mess with these to get a feel of the knife and if i like it enough ill scrap it and buy the real deal. its a good way to test the feel of an expensive knife.

each word on the markings is straight but repositioned to try and folow a curve... plus an original has a dead straight edge... the fakes look like they have a slightbelly

I just bought one from GPKNIVES & mine has Spyderco & cpm s30 ALL CONDENSED undertake HOLE.The fake has the hole going into the bevel ,mine is 3/8 's away.No beveling on the real one & the fake has beveling on GP where your index finger would go when griping it, ENOUGH.

The real yojimbo-2 is more flat down at the bottom of the frame below the pivot. The area at the bottom of the finger choil/guard is flat and slightly angled up to the blade tang/ricasso where’s your fake is more rounded. It also looks like your blade tang/ricasso is more angled up toward the pivot. But definitely, the “USA Earth” is all jacked up!

What confirmed it for me wasn’t the markings. It was the action. Sure it could have been poorly tuned but rarely a Spyderco is so poorly out of tune that it doesn’t even come close to drop-shut even once out of all the closings you did in that video

I own about 20 Spyderco's and have sold countless others . Out of all of them , ive only seen the grind be off one time. Manix 2 in XHP from knivecenter. Still a great knife

Spyderco is defenitely the most copied brand in the knife buisenis. I tried looking for one used recently, on one perticular site 3 pages of results came back, 80% of them probably fake and almost all of them costing around 30 bucks. At this point I'm scared to buy used, because there is a good chance it's a fake.

Bought 2 zt's on ebay but got lucky! But now I definitely go with blade hq, gpknives or other reputable sellers when it comes to spending more than $100. Anything lower I'll do ebay unless blade hq has it for a little more anyway! Plus they also have free shipping and don't charge tax, unless you live in they're state!

I have a Microtech Scarab that I think might be fake. The springs twang a little when you fire it and the blade is sterile. The screws are regular torx instead of the old tri-wing or the newer tri-lug fasteners. However, Microtech has been known to use regular torx screws at times. I've taken it mostly apart and the machining seems fairy on par with other MTs I've seen. I also bought it from a third party when Microtech clones were painfully obvious so if it actually IS a fake, it's a damn good one.

I have no issues with eBay. MANY auth dealers that also have websites sell on eBay. I've only encountered ONE counterfeit from a guy and I returned it to him. (It was a Benchmade) I'm not 100% sure he knew it was a counterfeit.

There are variations among fakes, so the indicators for this one may not apply to a different fake. Unless you seek fakes, go to authorized dealers. BTW, fakes abound in many areas, including medical, automotive, electronics, etc.

Some reputable dealers sell factory seconds with minor flaws, some companies mark them as seconds, some don't. Hell even Himalayan Imports sells "blems" thru Bladeforums, and you can get a Khukuri that you can fell frikkin trees with, AFAIK damn near indestructible, great customer service...for way less than the retail prices. After you've done this for a while you learn real quick to know EXACTLY what youre looking for, and whenever possible, Hell just go pick it out.

For Spyderco's specifically, there is no more competitive pricing, they switched to minimum advertise pricing (map pricing) January 1st, 2018, for brand new knives they're all going to be the same price online now for every legit retailer, the same way benchmade, Zero Tolerance and some others do it. do it. For those that don't know what map pricing is, a manufacturer enforces the minimum price a product can be sold for online, for example a spyderco paramilitary 2 has map price of $136 and it cannot be sold for lower no matter where you go online. There are exceptions, like old stock from before map pricing took effect being cleared out, when a model is discontinued or a retailer could simply stop getting spyderco's and selling what's left in their inventory (which is the penalty for ignoring a manufacturer's map price). I hate map pricing, so I'm not endorsing it, just explaining it.
