This is pretty cool. These prototypes of Spyro are such a goldmine of differences. Even just going through the Spyro 2 and learning Elora had narration for the level intros were so awesome. It’s a shame they cut that out, I would have loved it as a kid.

Spyro 2 was probably my favorite Spyro game and Autumn Plains was probably my favorite hub world of the Spyro series. Nice to see this hub world having the most noticeable differences, especially with the top of the castle part. :)

That's so cool. It's always interesting to see how certain things were changed during the development of the games just from examining these prototypes, in comparison to what we get with the final product.

They changed up this section MAJORILY. Crazy. Also... pardon?! Spyro 3 prototype?! I ALWAYS WISHED FOR ONE!!!!!

This version of the tower reminds me heavily of the tower where Gildas is in Stone Hill, with the whirlwind taking you up through it and everything. Wonder if it was deliberately meant to be a visual callback?

Just made me realise one thing. If this was in the original game, there wouldn't have been any Gulp skips, since the wall isn't there anymore. Imagine how speedruners would feel if it was the other way around.

I think retail was a little harder to find, and I like that challenge and reward aspect. But I can already vision my childhood if this was the final build. That texture warping was insane by the way.

What I wouldn't give for an earlier build of Spyro 2. LIke something on the equivalent of the June 15th prototype for Spyro 1 or earlier.

Honestly it's almost better than the final version, but the 65th orb does seem a bit too generous since you can immediately get the orb for gliding to the platform, plus the camera doesn't really zoom out as much on the top of the tower

Hi @CrystalFissure , in your download link the last ")" is not part of the link so it does not work we can obviously still acces it by adding one in the end but people might not think of it and just thing it does not work

Not sure - maybe they wanted it to be 64 orbs instead of 65, and thought they had a better level design idea? I like this version though.

Yeah, this is cool, but You are overrating this. I mean, that's how all game developments look like. They change drastically and this is actually super small change. You are making it like it was changed so much. It wasn't. Actually, perfect example is Zera. We know how the game changed from one point to another, because we've been getting videos when something changed. And You are saying that small changes from Spyro are "the biggest You've ever seen", while You are the one who knows how much Zera changes in time. And even recent hub world changes. This is normal thing in all games. Oh, another perfect example. Minecraft. And all those changes are easily to get. You can choose 1.0.0 Minecraft and 1.17 snapshot. I won't even say about Beta or Alpha. Just released versions are changing drastically. And it's not just that they add features. They rewrite the whole game. And actually 1.17 is the best example for this, as we've got complete rework of game generation (but it will be in second part, so we don't know if it will be called 1.17B or 1.18, but nevermind this). I share Your enthusiasm towards those changes, but You explain small little details as they were gargantuic.

Considering this is the first time in about 18 years we've seen a new orb in a differently modelled section, to me it's a big deal. To others who I've seen live react to this, they think similarly. But I get that not everyone has the same opinion. But for me personally, this is brilliant. Zera is great but it's also something in which we see all the small changes. That doesn't happen as much with PS1 games because of how the industry works. PC games that have version releases are obviously much more out in the open because their development is tracked specifically.
