This just unlocked and explained a childhood memory 😂 Going to crocodile swamp, I ran around the room instead of going through and couldn't find the floating platform. I had no idea what was going on so just went back and forth and there it was 😂

When I was a kid, I somehow managed to kinda permanently screw up my copy of this game by doing the swimming-in-the-air glitch an ungodly amount of times. The game was still playable, but some things weren't right: like, sometimes the game wouldn't calculate draw distance correctly or it wouldn't render some objects right. But the most game-breaking thing was that sometimes specific sections of levels wouldn't load. You showcased some of the exact same points in the game where it'd happen, so now it leads me to assume that 8-year-old me's abuse of the swimming-in-the-air glitch somehow also screwed up the load/unload triggers.

as a child i think i rememberd these without realising, I know that the music changed over a certain threshold but didn't change back at the same place, must have been where I had to go back over the other map trigger..? and there have been many times where I've rounded a corner to see that the map hasn't loaded but didn't walk off the trail too much as far as I'm aware, are there other things that will cause triggers not to load the map? or maybe I just accidentally walk around them a lot!

Music is tied to individual "zones" of a map and doesn't depend on load triggers. There are some bugs with this system which I dont know the causes of. The passages between levels are designed to block your view and slow you down just enough that the level can load in the background before you reach it, but due to various factors this can take more time than intended and you might see the void for a few seconds. Some levels might even fail to load due to a scratched disc or something. Could be all sorts of things, honestly.

So wait, is that Mecha-Red just sitting in the background near the end of the video?

By going out of bounds I was able to go around load triggers to keep the final boss arena loaded in the background while i was miles away in Magma Falls. If you have not defeated Mecha Red, he'll just be standing there while the arena is loaded, waiting for the cutscene to start.

@@EbbeAHT That makes sense! I always wondered if all the bosses were like that prior to defeating them. I know Gnasty is the only one that you can actually see prior to the cutscene. So I’m guessing that both Ineptune and Realm 3 Red are also out of the player’s sight, sitting out of bounds and waiting for their respective cutscenes as well prior to being defeated.

@@EbbeAHT It could be that maybe her boss fight was the last one they implemented, but never finished. She’s also the only boss in the game where going to her arena will not change the background music. Super strange indeed!
