Is it just me or do most of JMs songs sound a lot better when he doesn't overproduce them in the studio? You can totally tell that this is the way he writes the songs, just him staring out the window playing guitar. He should totally release an acoustic album!

only thing i would say, and this is super knitnpicking because his absolutle worse is not even in the same ballpark as my mediocre lol BUT i feel he ever so slightly (just a pube) “affects” his voice to get that rough sound…sometimes he doesn’t do it as bad and it’s perfect when it’s natural voice without the affect.

Just love him. I have seen him plugged in and unplugged shows. From Eddie's Attic to John Mayer Trio....He is just the best. Mixing up the versions of his songs he cuts in the studio and just blows them out of the water live.
@Kostas160111 жыл бұрын
The fact that most his songs are so challenging to play and sing along with shows his skill level, and yeah, his professionalism as well...For example songs like Neon, I believe he just wrote in order to push himself to his best. He just commits to being able to play songs like that on stage, and that's why he's one of my favorites...He commits to what he does consistently and spices it up wherever possible. John Mayer has to practice vigorously before each concert, unlike lots of other artists

Pause at 0:03 you can see the pick sticking out from between his fingers. He does what a lot of guitars players do. He chokes up on the pick so only the very edge sticks out. It keeps your hand close to the strings for easy muting not only with your palm but with the fingers your holding the pick in.

@sqlife You can definitely find/get this video if you don't live in Japan. This&the Who Says version like this came with his Storytellers performance in the Battle Studies Deluxe Edition CD pack. You can get it at your local Target or Borders. The extra DVD has Storytellers and two videos which are under a section titled: A Trip to Japan Alone; it has W.S. and H.o.M.H.; both very beautiful renditions. Sorry, I don't mean to come off rude I'm just trying to pass along correct info haha Peace.
@JustinChauGuitar - I realize that JM often plays without a pick and that it allows him to execute a lot of classic fingerstyle blues licks, etc. I was just saying that by NOT using a pick in this particular rendition, the chords sound a little muffled and diminished when I think it could have sounded cooler if they were more defined (by playing with a pick).

He's amazing. Its a shame nowadays its not about the art but the person attached to it. There's a bunch of popular musicians who can't read or write music or play an instrument but they accept the title "artist" very comfortable. But hey, life is not fair.
