I'd love to know how much of this is just "animated" and not "in-game" footage. Everything seems SO smooth and I understand that SQ42 is single-player only so it makes sense. The thing that is REALLY killing the playability in the PU is everything related to servers and sync/desync. That's why when we're on a "good" server of FPS over 15 and Bwin over .4xx, we see a whole different game than when we are on MOST servers getting less that 10 FPS and .2xx. I hate that our experience is SO dependent on the "Server/shard" that we jump into.

As far as I understand, everything is in-game in SQ42. I can't remember where this was stated, but they said there would be a mode to play SQ42 all from first-person, without having the camera pulled away by cutscenes, like half-life games. But that could have just been an off the cuff CR remark a million years ago.

My performance in the PU is so obviously dependent on server performance, but when it's glassy smooth it proves to me this game could run like a dream once they iron those networking issues out. And thus not a problem affecting SQ42 hopefully

Keep in mind that SQ42 is basically a single player game, so the recourse requirements are significantly lower than the PU with 100-800 players running around etc.

I don't really see how we will get NPCs with this level of AI functionality in the PU unless CIG figures out a way to offload some of the AI processing to the client process. Personally, I think PCs that are capable of running the PU and the client could direct the behavior of AI in our ships and hangars, even if public area AI are controlled by the game shard for that region. Maybe this is CIG's plan all along - to have the pilot of a ship or the leader of a group's client process direct the NPC crew, acting as mini game-shards and just updating NPC positions and attributes on the replication server.

It kinda has to. 2 massive private investor loans can be called in 2025. And if they decide to call them in CIG can't make any profit and only keeps the minimum amount of money, they need to keep daily operations afloat. They can't hire or expand anything. So, we'll most likely get a hard date at Citcon this year and it'll probably release before May 2025.

The game entered early beta in 2023. The game is complete and can be played start to finish. They're just bug testing and smoothing everything out which almost every game dev does.

@@ccgod no it is not finished, in january they said that they are still working on content complete, it will take years until we will be very lucky to hold SQ42 in our hands and that only if CR comes to its senses. If you were right we'd get a release date for CC somewhere in the middle/end of 2025, but we won't, and even then it would be 2 years of polishing, which is a really long time.

It's a linear story. You'll have the freedom to explore the ship during some downtime, but there is no open world exploration.

They had “feature complete” with no way to tie the features together, and are now motion cap’ing things, JUST NOW, motion capping things outside of the trailers only used for sales. SQ42 entered beta in 2023 and is playable start to finish. They went back and added new mocap for the main characters because they made or edited scenes they were in. There's videos of all the main cast members doing their mocap from 2013. Just search them right here on youtube lol. Chris said back in 2013 he wasn't releasing a ton of footage of SQ42 because he didn't want everyone to experience the game from trailers. He wanted their first experience with it by playing it. They're have been like 3 or 4 hours of gameplay fragments released over the years all showing areas and systems that don't exist in SC. So they're new assets. Whatever you saw was either lying or you misinterpreted what they were saying.

SQ42 is client side, since it is a singleplayer game. Meaning that physics is going to be calculated by YOUR computer and not the shitty overworked servers Star Citizen runs on lol. Honestly almost everything performance-wise should work better in SQ42 than SC because the game will only be limited by your computer alone.
