Glad to see a commentary from the man himself! I'm also glad that the gameplay was very in-game and largely unedited. I love the honest depiction of the status of the game rather than the clearly modified demos you get at places like E3.

by largely you mean completely. There were so many things that could have been "fixed" for the demo and I too am very glad that they didn't do that.

Tirus12 its not that odd. Theres been a ton of cinematic and pre-rendered issues lately. Companies do this to present at conferences to bait out hype. Mostly in the past 8 years.

I love the ones where it says in the bottom of the screen that you're watching "in engine footage". This basically translates to "This isn't what the actual game will look like, but at least we've decided on what engine we're going to use." You could do a demo for a brand new Unreal Engine game and just copy the footage of an older one and you'd still be able to claim it's in engine footage. It's utterly meaningless.

Sure, one could interprete it in that way... if one has not followed Star Citizen even remotely and only knows stuff like Watch_Dogs or Colonial Space Marines.

I LOVE that they show actual gameplay. Not time stamped cinimatic, not adjusted to make it lok perfect, just raw gameplay of the engine exactly how it is right now. I wanna see this games imperfections and issues in these gameplay demos, i want to know EXACTLY what we are getting when devs show their games. Not some bullshit senario or mission that doesnt exist in the actual game that runs 100x better than the real game like other companies do. Love SC, u guys keep doing what your doing, this game is amazing and the transparancy of the devs is fantastic. Love the weeky updates and everything you guys do to show the community what yall are up to. Keep up the hard work guys!

Well that's the power that you have when you're not bound by a corporate publisher and their guidelines. You can do what you envision and not what the publisher tells you to do. The development sure takes its time but I love every bit that they've come up with so far and can't wait for the full release.

This game is going to change everything. It's so special... the attention to detail, the scope, the atmosphere, the quality. Every ingredient is there for something truly memorable. It is genuine magic. Imagine introducing this level of perfection to the current gaming scene which is characterized by mass produced, soulless trash. An entire generation of gamers will have their eyes opened and the veterans who know better will relive the magic of gaming they had thought lost. Thank you Chris, and CIG for this masterpiece. Half-Life 3 we probably will not ever get... Star Citizen seems like something which I can't even believe will happen.

When I first heard about and backed Star Citizen, my hype for the project was a raging thing, full of passion and fire. I would rant on and on about the project to friends, debate it hotly online, and generally was quite annoying about it. Today my hype is still there, but it is a softer, more patient thing now. I'm still confident in the project, its direction and its goals, but I am content now to wait and watch as it develops before me, and slowly resolves itself into something with the potential of being very special. I'm glad I supported the project, and I will see it through to the end, with patience and excitement in equal measure.

well at least in s42 it's from solving a problem or playing well xd not from dumping 50 dollary doos into lootboxes :D I'm kinda sad over the fact that some people will have amazing ships in the MMO version just from buying them with real money during the development. But that's the price that we have to pay for these games to be free of publishers like EA. The difference is that those greedy publishers would push out the game as an incomplete mess, have no interraction with the fans while making it, and they would keep real money ship purchases in the finished game.

this was really really really entertaining and informative to watch. I always thought Chris’ whole “well this is kinda bad right now but we’ll work on it” thing whenever he was live-directing these videos was something unique to him, but with this you can see how that mentality trickles down throughout the entire dev team. And that mentality exists because they’re not satisfied with just checking some boxes off on a list of features and implementing them in whatever what’s easiest. You really see the amount of time and effort and attention to detail that’s gone into Star Citizen so far, and how they’re gonna continue to approach development going forward.

Remember just a few years ago, lots of people where shouting that this game was a huge scam. If so, then this is by far the most elaborate scam ever. The game looks absolutely amazing. My favorite thing about these developers is that they focus so much on the immersion aspect of the game. The best games ever had always something about them that pushed the immersion forward to the next level. And to see all these small details in the game, the part about it all actually happening real time and not just artificially, is truly the next level. I am just sitting here watching this and I am in awe of how good it looks and these guys are just there pretty much nitpicking ever tiny detail I would not even notice. That shows me they truly do care about everything. I am so looking forward to this game, it can become the best game ever made. But I think I should try and keep my expectations lowered just in case. But I can't help but feel that this is going to be something truly spectacular. I can't wait to see Mark Hamill in a new Sci Fi role too, at least they can't go an completely ruin his character this time as they did with The Last Jedi. And they also got Liam Cunningham in the game, one of my favorite actors from Game of Thrones. I will be sure to beef up a new computer to be able to run this game at max on launch, just so it all looks as it should.

Didn't see this in the comments I scrolled through, but I quite liked the "Lieutenant" greeting. While repetative, it's a fairly common thing to hear aboard many Naval vessels (officers greeted by rank and not "sir"/"ma'am"). It's one of those little details that many miss but makes the immersion even better.

awesome job guys, I'm speechless. The overall feel is looking GREAT. Couple suggestions--while walking your head remains perfectly level. There should be SOME sway to give an impression you are actually walking, not floating. Characters eyes need more movement, as someone else said, they look dead. The planet tech is awesome but, to be honest it looks out of place with the hand crafted stuff next to it. The boulders and rocks on the planet look completely fake and procedural. It's early days and even though nothing is ever perfect, I'm sure I will enjoy this game. Keep up the incredible work.

Loved the commentary, it's really cool to hear what people's thoughts are with what's being shown. I'm super amped for the game. It's very rough admittedly, but it's coming along nicely, and there are some points within the demo that are truly exceptional (especially as far as art direction is concerned). I'm hoping that with the "vertical slice" done, the rest of the game can start coming together and we can start seeing the polish being applied in particular.
@deeraz
@deeraz 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with the comments praising the commentary. It was interesting and informative, and highlights yet again the commitment to transparency that CIG team has. I wonder if it would be possible to add in-game commentary to the final game? I think it would be fascinating, kind of like the commentary track on blu-rays. Valve did that a while back with TF2 I believe - basically you could load levels with commentary, which would take the form of a floating icon and when you clicked on it you would get a short commentary on something relevant to the room or the map or some such. I'm thinking that in SQ42, after you finish it once, you could unlock the commentary mode, and if you turn that on when replaying the campaign, then in certain place or situations you would get prompt in the corner, something like "press F10 to hear commentary". Anyway, just an idea.

I noticed in an episode of... something, when Steve Bender (IIRC his name) was handed a weapon to demonstrate some things he was animating, both the person who handed him the weapon and Steve cleared the weapon. It made me so proud. He also maintained trigger discipline. Was heartwarming to see :D

armorers dont need to cheack the weapon, it comes out of the rack in the armory... they get checked when get stored in... i never saw an armorer check it when they give it to you, you do that when you take it...
@GorBane
@GorBane 6 жыл бұрын
That's no excuse. Every armorer I had in the Army checked the weapon before handing it out. It's just good practice, and a good way to build the habit. It doesn't matter how many times you clear it, respect for the weapon and the safety of everyone takes priority. You may have checked it 10 minutes ago or 10 days ago, but you should always check it again before handing it to someone. It's the same reason you should always check a weapon when it's handed to you. There's a saying one of my NCO's used to say all the time. "Trust, but verify." I mean, there's always that one guy that goes to clear a weapon, sticks the rifle in the barrel and boom, forgot to take the round out of the chamber. That's why we check weapons, regardless of when it was last used. It's just good practice. Maybe I'm just paranoid. *Shrug*
@attackhelicopter7403
@attackhelicopter7403 6 жыл бұрын
im the same, i was 4 years drill instructor, i trained over 900 recruits in shooting and handling a weapon. Thats why the first lesson is allways, check the weapon when you get it and when you give it. but maybee doubble checking in the timespan of 20 secs is necessary ;) in the german army the armorer was allways present when you checked it, so i guess we can agree on that. But you are right, you cant be to paranoid with weapons... And trigger safety is like god, you may not believe in him, but it can allways happen and you stay infront of him faster than you thought...

This game (just the single player mode) could have amazing potential for a long life, if you tell the background stories in a dark souls style. Meaning that you could find story told in the environment around you (like some character's room and stuff on a ship), by finding items like books and such, and reading through them. And of course by talking to characters. Maybe talking to some characters in a set order could trigger a bonus conversation option, that could change the story of those characters.
