One question, though: How do you keep people from being idiots? It's cool that there doesn't seem to much divide between regions but what happens when half a dozen kids want to show off and crash into the base? I mean I get wanting to be silly but after a while that kind of behaviour really kills immersion...
@Albertrossus
@Albertrossus 7 жыл бұрын
the consequences. You have to insure your ships in order to get them back after they get destroyed. But this doesnt cover flying mindless into a base, so if you do this on purpose chances are u dont get ur ship back. Big cities on the other hand wont have this "freedom" and they wont let u fly like u want but rather take "control" over ur ship if u try to leave the regular path to the landing pad.
@AbsintheColour
@AbsintheColour 7 жыл бұрын
so you insure your ships and have one more trite mechanic to do. Itd be really sick if you lost your ship and you just effn lost your ship. are you saying you can lose your effn ship completely, even if it is space insured? lol
@RetiredRhetoricalWarhorse
@RetiredRhetoricalWarhorse 7 жыл бұрын
AbsintheColour Ya know, this could be mitigated: Insruance prices rise depending on how often you lose the damn ship. And if it reaches a certain point, you get investigated. People could earn additional funds or perks by reviewing replays of the situations. There's potential here ;)

Finally today I already play this game for 2 years, and we have such amazing improvements and content already added to the game. @@vttoc While I don't disagree that there has been progress, look at the progress between the prior years to this point. And then think about that it's been 4 years since this video. We don't have in depth missions with interesting comms calls, or interesting twists. The plot of this mission is nowhere near as in depth as this. We're still in the same system with the addition of Hurston, ArcCorp and Microtech. Not to mention the depth of the planet variety that followed that year in Citizencon. It's come along way, of course, but not 'that' far considering the time passed and where it is now. Edit: One thing to add, wouldn't it be nice to have that landing indication system again? :\

Performance is only worse if you ignore the fact that SC has much higher detail on everything. It's probably not exactly optimized yet but you're basically comparing games that are multiple generations apart in terms of system requirements. There's absolutely no way you'd be able to run SC on a PS4 even if it wasn't PC exclusive.

I struggle to believe comments like this are from real people. Trust me, I want this project to succeed but with an opinion like that you must either have no idea what's actually going on or are a shill paid for by Chris Roberts. Ten years, 450 million dollars, a mountain of tech debt, and ALL of their 'core tech' is NOTHING more than MADE UP DESCRIPTIONS with no idea how they will actually be implemented or even work from a technical standpoint. It's now on a DEAD engine which Amazon GAVE AWAY to the Linux foundation because even they knew it was a lost cause and is VERY last gen in comparison to UE5, which will be churning out games for almost a decade before Star Citizen comes out.
@camerondoyle391
@camerondoyle391 2 жыл бұрын
@@damingy That's not entirely accurate, UE5 cannot be used for space games of the scale of star citizen and elite dangerous and to be frank, I'm not surprised it's taking so long considering they've had to basically remake the engine, imo they would have saved time creating the engine from scratch.

@@damingy I keep hearing the people with buyers remorse saying this same thing on repeat(you're just copy and pasting each other at this point). I agree with some of what you said, it has been a long time, and they've gotten a lot of money, the current setup is strange compared to other games. But you fail to see that this game does what so many failed, and could never do. And so much more. I've followed on and off, and recently bought in, gave up Tarkov to start playing this, and I couldn't be happier. I'm a huge gun enthusiast, I have entire kits, buncha guns, it's my favorite real life hobby. So when I say I happily traded my gaming time from Tarkov to Start Citizen, an entirely different game revolving around space and you don't even have to engage in combat at all, that says a lot about how amazing Star Citizen really is.

Now this is what I'm talking about. This gameplay trailer is a fine example of how things are coming together. Well the only 'investors' they have are backers. The game is 100% crowdfunded, so they are taking their time luckily. I don't mind waiting, like you I'd rather wait 1-3+ more years for one hell of a game then a rushed game made to please investors now.

I basically agree. But don't forget, that "crowdfunded" doesn't equal "they can take their time". Ok, they don't have a fixed deadline for the game, which is very good. But still... the staff of 320+ people needs to get paid monthly. So many wages to pay will eat up even the biggest budget at some point. i dont know. but if you have some headphones, a joint, a recliner, a nice good sized screen, some peace so you can focus with no distractions (if you have kids) , nms is not the complete shit experience the hype train of indy game bashers like to paint broad black strokes about. Im 70 hours in and even at its base without upcoming updates, ive thoroughly enjoyed it. Hell, i want to play now. And whats 60 bucks? i mean, if im not careful with my money i can spend that much over a month and not even know where it went or even be able to account for it. If i take my chick out to eat and spend 60 bucks on food to fill us up for a few hours, i immediately wonder why the fuck i didnt just go to the store and eat dinner for the better part of a week for the same price. Now thats money i usually regret spending. and this is coming from a pretty cheap guy that doesnt buy 65 dollar games on the reg. honestly, though. money i spent on nms is the best money ive spent on a vidya game in a long time. Just my opinion, though. and i dont have a gaming rigged pc ;/ so im talking out of console games basically. anyway, this star citizen game looks really good.

Yeah im afraid Star Citizens planets will be boring as fuck. Its like visiting the moon or mars, the initial awe at their scale will soon be replaced by the realization that there really is nothing to do on them apart from maybe visit a station. Heck, NMS was based around planetary exploration, with procedural animals, plants, etc and people still were complaining that there was nothing to do on them

The worldbuilding is a matter of shoving art through pipelines, which takes years upon years. It took a lot more to make Grand Theft Auto 5 than merely getting the engine set up. Even after the universe is essentially feature complete, I would heavily bet that individual star systems would still need to trickle into existence as the content gets made.

When you look at it it's not taking that much time. GTA 5 took about 4 or 5 years to develop and they already had the previous games to build on. Star Citizen is trying something completely new. I think it feels slow because they've been open about the game since the very beginning. Usually game devs wait for a more advanced product before they announce it. The wait is long, but it looks like it's gonna be worth it :)

+promaty it's called being social. perhaps you've lead such a sheltered lonely life that you don't understand what this night was about - gamers having fun with beers during a weekend. if you had actual friends you'd know what it's like to be in a fun social environment, but you don't so... yeah, it's difficult to help you understand

"It's currently limited to 24 by the old netcode." Wow then it's even worse than I thought before when I first started really following this game's development. I heard they could only have around 200 people in a battle instance. I'm curious to see how the new netcode will improve that number.

CIG has to rewrite the netcode to eliminate drawcalls on things you cant see among other things...it takes time, just like rewriting CryEngine to 64 bit precision so we can have multi million kilometer systems not just 8 km squares with skyboxes... which also took time...

Tylis Wolf There is no way to nail down the exact numbers but the rule of thumb is that advertisement and miscellaneous are generally equal to the production cost. So doubling the "cost" of the game. So no it's not likely that destiny cost that much but maybe 300 mil. None the less we are talking about finnished games here, compared to an unfinished game that would be lucky to come in under 180 million and is more likely to be closer to the 200 million mark and about double that with marketing and such

i gotta say Elite could learn from Star ciziten in terms of how to make mission gives feel alive and interesting. The small video from that shady NPC is alot better than the mission board in Elite. And no i am not trying to bash Elite and say Star citizen is a far better game; those are diffentent games with different ways of getting funded - the more games of this scope the better it is for players that like this kind of game :-)

I would guess that Frontier did not build the strong foundations that CIG did and wouldn't hold your breath. I believe CIG made their job easier now and in the future by challenging the obstacles withing their jobs i.e. if a software didn't do what they wanted or do it in a way they liked they changed it and made it happen. Including their library of objects, assets, development tools and the engine. CIG done all of that so that they weren't choking years later when competition arrives. It means once the game is released new content can be built far quicker than we've possibly ever seen for any online game. Time will tell and I'm not even sure every games developer out there have caught onto all of what I've typed but I guarantee students will be learning about their approach at University one day. To be clear this is not SC v ED because SC is not complete. What we can do is CIG v Frontier based on what we know about them. We can do CIG versus any studio based on the facts. I'm betting CIG would always come out on top because few other studios release so much information about their project and provide so much access to the developers. That approach is what increases the quality of a product because the responses are constant. Frontier would need to open their team and game right up to the community. I personally feel the nature of persistent space games requires it. I don't think any online persistent universe will ever make the impact CIG has unless the project is transparent and without publisher.
