It's worth pointing out that Squale's Sub 39 line of watches come with 22mm lug widths. If you prefer the proportions of a 20mm strap on this size of case, limited editions such as these are the only way to get that appearance right now.

Squale is my favourite watch brand at the moment, it doesn’t matter if they sell out they have plenty of other watches that are just as nice. If I was you Peter I would put the black strap on the white dial and put a vintage beads of rice bracelet on the black dial and keep that one ....I think You must be like a kid in a sweet shop trying to decide what one to have, you could just buy the other one 😀

Great video as usual. Order that black buttery strap for the white dial and you can't go wrong Pete. As for me, I'm loving the fifty fathoms style vintage model myself. The dial just really stands out with that background. But, I'd be happy with either one. Enjoy!

Truly beautiful watches. Squale certainly punches above its weight. While I prefer the black, I think the white dial will be more versatile with its Sinn-like appearance. The only thing I dislike about these watches is the ghost date position which, unfortunately, is a deal breaker for me.

I have been wearing this white one on and off in rotation and I have completely forgotten about the ghost position. When I adjust the time, I just 'fully' pull out the crown and its adjust away. I think the fact that it is a conical crown and I am forced to place my fingers underneath in a particular way to actually pull it out, it always clicks out twice without me wanting it too.if that makes sense. But on a side note, normally YES I too dislike ghost positions, this one seems to be fine in usage (strangely enough) Thanks for sharing btw 👍

The white one looks almost too crisp for me and not a fan of the black bezel with a white dial. Having said that the dial and the markers looks great. I’d go for the black though just because I personally love a fifty fathoms and it looks closer to that

Always love the Sub39 range, Squale standing strong on their own heritage vs. homage to others. The black dial is totally reminiscence of their classic 50's dive watch... similar to their 60th year anniversary LE piece... 😀 However the 22mm lug width and crown, not too sure about that... 🧐

Good review Pete. I like the 'from the heart" style opposed to a more clinical approach. Watches are about attachment and attachment is emotional. But you chose wrong mate! :- ) The black one's frickin' gorgeous. Good dimensions too, I'm a real fan of overhanging bezels on divers. That extra mm or 2 is great for presence the same way a smaller case size is great for on wrist comfort. Squale are really srating to interest me over the last year or so. The design team knows their stuff... Well marketed too.

Great review. Black dial 100%. Stands out. The Urban Gentry keeps pronouncing it ‘Squalay’. Must be his Italian heritage :) There has been some grumblings online that Squale’s after sale service has not been great, esp re repairs. Any thoughts?

Hiya Pete two cracking watches with lovely pieces of glass on them! The only thing I'm not s fan of are the completely polished cases on tool watches. Is the different feel of the bezels really intended? Why don't you base your decision on whether to keep the one with more vintage vibes or more of a modern feel on how it complements the rest of your current collection?

Hi Alex, strangely enough that polish works on this as you don't get to see much of the case unless you look. Most of the case is hidden behind the dial and bezel combo As for that bezel, not sure if its quality control or deliberate. Whatever the case, the black one feels like you are opening a safe, like a safe cracker, really delicate. The white version firm and true. As for decision, the black is beautiful, but in my eyes this white one is pure, a pure delight. Cheers mate

If the brand is Italian, then the pronunciation is Squale. If it is french then it is 'squal'. By the way both come from latin squalus (no silent e)

The brand is originally from Switzerland, Swiss Made. It was acquired by an italian (Maggi family) in recent years. From what I can tell the French word Squale means shark in English and if I am not mistaken, the Italian word Squalo means shark in English. But, I am open to correction Julio 😊 Cheers
