I have a 1977 that I had the original 350 then went big block then went back small block. But I left the big block springs I think it was too much for the lower ball joints. The other day the lower ball joint popped out so I'm going back with small block springs.

@rayjohnson7886 oh interesting, maybe they were worn out, and the stiffer springs did then in? My entire front needs to be gone through anyways so I be double checking everything, eventually.
@rayjohnson7886Ай бұрын
@thedriver02 It's been a long time since I've installed them but Monday I found out one of the issues. The lower ball joints doesn't have grease fitting that's not good in the long run. The new ones I'll be able to grease hopefully things works out for you.

How did you like that swap? How did the Caddy do? I have a 77 GMC 2wd 3/4 ton and a 500 Caddy that I want to put in it.
@TAWS-wq3hx5 жыл бұрын
It will make a difference in 3/4 ton HD. My 80 suburban C20 (has C6P option) originally had a 454 in it. I swapped in a cadillac 472 (weighs 160 lbs lighter than bb chevy) and the front raised up 1 inch when it was all bolted down.

Tighter shocks will firm up the ride, stiffer springs will carry more load and each will counter the other

I'm currently trying to figure out how the previous owner lifted the front end of my 2wd Blazer that I bought 17 years ago, as I'm thinking of replacing the springs with a fresh set. After seeing this, I'm thinking that he may have just used 3/4 ton springs not sure how to tell. 33's fit perfectly, the front fenders were also already cut. Everyone just sells drop spindles ... I think there used to be a lot more 2WD squarebody pre-runners back in the day but not so much anymore so now there isn't much of an aftermarket for them unless you get custom ordered sh!t which means $$$$.

So much easier if you just popped the ball joint loose imo instead of fighting with the u-bolts & trying to line everything up as you're going up & putting it under load
@thedriver023 ай бұрын
@skullcrusher58 honestly it went pretty smooth gladly. And I didn't want to risk tearing up the boot, or damaging the ball joints, as they had all been replaced not to long ago. I didn't know about this spring upgrade back then, or I would have done it at the same time.

1991 2wd crew square. Help. How do I lift as much as possible
@thedriver023 жыл бұрын
You'll have to look online for the tallest rated coil. I believe there were some superlift I think was the brand of springs that would give a 2 or 3 inch lift. Rock auto is a good start. Also you could look into modifying the control arm or adding a spacer under the spring. Roughly a 3/8" spacer will net a 1" lift with the suspension geometry. Good luck
@nestdiz68473 жыл бұрын
I put one ton springs on my 1984 Chevy c20 it made a big difference with a 6.2 diesel on it. Does any one know if the spring spacers they sale on eBay or Amazon actually work??? they say it’s made for that year and weight but I don’t know

@thedriver022 жыл бұрын
What springs did you use? I would think they must be lift springs then. 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have 2 inch taller frame which is where most of the height comes from. All the springs I found were the same length, just slightly stiffer.
@redneck04jeep2 жыл бұрын
@@thedriver02 used exact same ones as you did and when I was doing my research people was saying to use those to get at least 2" lift im just trying to look to see if possibly make it ride a little softer

If the coil springs did lift your truck a few inches then perhaps your shock absorbers new extended brackets or different ones...... maybe.

You probably have lift springs, i recently bought a 3” lift kit for my c10 (took a while to find) and waiting for the weather to warm up so I can slap it on. It’ll be 3” in the front and 4” in the back with blocks so I’ll be getting 2” coil spacers for the front.

31x10.5 clears with a good couple inches to spare. 32x11.5 should be fine. 33x12.5 will be close, but I plan to try with adding maybe 1" up front. I think then they would clear no problem

I have 31x10.5r15 on it currently before and after the taller springs. I think I could fit 33's, 33x12.50 is probably what I would try, but I won't be surprised if they do rub. Its about the height of a stock 4x4, 33's usually will fit but may rub slightly as well.

Hi it was less than an inch after I drove it around they settled some it seems to be right around 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. The springs themselves are the same height just the difference in spring rate gives a bit of extra lift plus the fact old springs probably sagged a bit over the years. Thanks for watching!
