Awesome video, and yes I think these sound like the right decisions. I want to see them go back to classics. The octopath, triangle strategy and DQ games for example. Simple graphics, good stories, fun characters, not everything needs to be super stylized like FF7R or 16. I'd really love to see them revive Vagrant Story though, seems like that could be special.

OG Bravely Default is easily a top 5 all time RPG for me. I would highly prefer Team Asano be working on a new one, but I would be happy for the gaming community if it could be freed from its 3DS prison.

I'd personally love to see a Live a Live sequel. That game gave me Chrono Trigger vibes but obviously without the time travel. I love how they tied the whole story together at the end!

for FF 9 Remake, I really hope Square Enix will keep its stylized look on the character designs. It is one of the charm of the original game, makes it stand out among other FF titles

That's honestly the biggest guarantee I wouldn''t worry about that at all. I'd be more worried about the production value of the game. It's all cool and all to hear it's turn based and 'not like FF7R' until you realize that this probably means there will be allot of cut corners.

​@@mikev8746 I believe it's almost impossible that this is going to be cheap like the Mana remake, because even though the game's art style doesn't demand a realistic style it's still a famous mainline FF game. It's not that high standards strictly mean photorealistic. This is just like comparing amateur low budget cg animation to Disney or Pixar cg animation. So since this is about a famous mainline game, S.E almost certainly won't neglect a robust budget to FF9R's graphics even though it doesnt need the exact same amount needed for FF7R graphics. It will be a high standards cartoony art style project. (Btw, what also seems to be the ideal style for a possible FF6 remake in the future)

All super exciting stuff! After getting back into the hobby of videogames a year or so back, and truly falling in love with videogames again, I've been diving into all sorts of JRPG's that I either never finished growing up, or never had the opportunity to play. And both FF9 and the Dragon Quest series have been entering my line of fire for a good while now. Dragon Quest 11 especially is one I've been meaning to get to, but there's just been so many goodies to try and get through haha! So seeing both this potential Dragon Quest HD trilogy and FF9 remake has got me real excited. Great to see you're so pumped for these releases David! Keep up the great content!

Hair physics are a waste of resources. Sea of stars just uses pixels for hair and puts the resources into dynamic lightning physics. Hair physics should only be considered if there is no other prolem to be solved.

Also, just something low-key to mention the FFIX OST is truly top tier. All the games have Incredibles soundtracks, but I think having remade versions of 9 is going to highlight just how excellent the compositions truly are especially melodically

I think to many purists are just blindly celebrating because SE seems to be throwing them a bone to realize that this also means FF9 could be half assed compared to FF7. Yes it's a remake but the Mana game was also a remake and that looks horrible.

I’m super excited for all of these classic Square experiences ❤❤❤ I grew up in the glory years myself (both in 86) so to see it all coming back, it’s hard to put into words how happy I feel. But to answer your question of what else could we want? There are two thing above all others that I want to see return: The Chrono series in the form of a true sequel or an HD-2D remake of the original. More than anything else, I want a Star Ocean Second Story R style remake of Xenogears. They could bring it back and make the second disc what it was originally supposed to be. Xenogears remake. I can only dream ❤

I love that you're like me in that you love pre-set character parties and turn-based combat. I'm a Final Fantasy fan, but I love Suikoden, Legend of Heroes, and Wild Arms most. I wish FF8 would get a remake with a revamped battle system (draw who? Me? Like one of your French girls?) and a graphics overhaul. Standalone that NEED remakes are Skies of Arcadia and Arc Rise Fantasia (I still have hearing damage from the OG voice acting). A Shadow Hearts trilogy remake would be snazzy too!

I haven't watched the video yet, but in my opinion the best thing they could do is release their entire back catalog for modern consoles. I would love to play some Final Fantasy Tactics or Vagrant Story on my PS5. Illusion of Gaia or EVO on the switch would be amazing. Gonna watch the video now.

I have no faith in Square anymore. They are flagrantly incompetent and creatively bankrupt. The FF 9 remake is bound to be abhorrent. The original is perfect. Let people remember it and play the version when it was in the hands of true geniuses and not some greedy company that peddles NFTs, uses AI in its artistic pursuits, makes crap games, and lies to its fans. Square just needs to go away and never come back.

I hope they continue this path also. But more in a hybrid between modern FF and old-school turn based games. FF VII Remake and Rebirth is absolutely fantastic, but at the same time IX, Tactics, DQ , Mana games that are turn based are just as fantastic, so would be nice to have a bit of both to mix it up for me.

So looking forward to playing this. Such a great game. I absolutely love Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, Kuja as well as the other characters and I love the story. IMO Zidane is the best FF protagonist and Kuja is one of the greatest FF villains. I hope when someone goes into trance it can carry over to future battles if you dont use it in that battle and I hope its fully voice activated. What are the chances we get a trailer for it at summer game fest?

These remakes are great experience for the junior game devs in Square Enix in general. Hopefully SE is taking advantage of this and not just the money. I would like to see them make an original IP soon in the same style. One that isn't a strategy RPG.

I never got into Bravely Default, I think because it is (or at least was) 3DS exclusive, and I've realized that hunching over a handheld gaming device makes my back hurt. I've got Octopath Traveler in my Steam library, but I haven't played much (well, 8.6 hours apparently, but back in 2020) - I probably got distracted by some other game :D . What would really blow my mind is if they remade/remastered the old Quintet+Enix games like Illusion of Gaia or Robotrek to run on modern consoles and/or PC.

You do realize that sadly Octopath, Live a Live etc. Those all didn't really sell that well to begin with? It's not just FF16/FF7R. Nothing they've put out in recent years has sold well. And the games you are focused on were multi platform either. No this wont move the needle at all. FF14 might with it's expansion. That's about it.

Im more than ready to jump back into the world of FF IX again with current day upgrades and QOL. Also being able to play the original DQ trilogy for the first time in gorgeous 2d-hd graphics is going to be great. Hoping for a Fall to early holiday release date for DQ. Crisp weather, apple cider, and DQ sounds like a good time.
