How to plant your own urban garden using the Quickcrop Square Foot Vegetable Gardening method. Square foot gardening is all about taking advantage of smaller spaces and raised garden beds to maximise your crop output. This is typically done by dividing the raised bed into square sections 12 inches per side using gardening twine or timber laths to achieve a grid system. The aim is to assist beginner vegetable gardeners and also help create the highest yielding garden possible.

I'm now starting off my garden and before I get my parent's permission to create a proper S.F.G but first I need sort of a proof of concept. I have a square foot pot and need to grow carrots will it be advisable to sow 16 in the pot? I'm in the tropics so I'm not quite sure how well it'll turn out so I want to try my best for them to work. Thanks in advanced for you input.

+Wazoo123 Hi Wazoo. Sorry for the late reply. You should be fine with 16 carrots in a square foot for baby carrots but if you want larger version you could put in 9 instead. Remember when growing in pots that you need to keep the compost evenly moist (a bit like your other question about potatoes), in the case of carrots if you let them dry out and then water them they are likely to split especially when you are approaching harvest time. I hope this helps, good luck and thanks for watching! Andrew

thanks for the video. lots of great info! I see your garden beds are combined into a large raised bed garden. For the higher ones on the back, do you have to fill it with more soil? Or do you just build it so it stands a bit taller?
@theuglykwan
@theuglykwan 7 жыл бұрын
If you don't need the extra height you could fill it with gravel or stones. I've seen people put in cardboard or random containers!
@Quickcrop
@Quickcrop 7 жыл бұрын
We tend to fill the taller beds with extra soil, perfect for growing longer root crops.

@Quickcrop 9 жыл бұрын
+Mary Ellis Hi Mary - sorry for delay in answering that question - its just been so busy here with spring upon us all. Part 3 is due to be done later this year during the natural cycle when the various plants are harvested. Last year, we had hoped to do it but the weather made it difficult to film anything at the "right time" when the plants were to be harvested etc in full bloom. At that time - it rained so much we could not use the camera. Thanks for taking time to ask. Any suggestions for videos will considered.
