What I shared with my gardening club... This guy is THE Batman of container gardening, seed starting, systems-thinking. He explains EVERYTHING and even tells you where to buy stuff. He shows the whole maturation process from planning, to seeds, to pots, to containers/raised beds, dealing with frost. It's a 22-minute vid but worth more than a semester at school. Have a pad-and-pen ready to jot down great ideas. Bookmark the vid to refer to it again, and if you jot something down, mark the time in the vid (like: "Heat-mat ideaAmazon/1:50) so you can refer to that section again. So many great ideas -- awesome editing and a cute cat too. Thank you, Gardening Ninja!

Thanks for sharing. I have a garden for 5 years now and only after watching your videos I decide to start my seedlings this year. After some goofs I finally now have planted almost a 100 big plants (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants etc) and more than a 100 small once like lettuce, spinach and beetroots. Plus since I started a lot more than I needed I gave them to my relatives. More than 300 plants in total. Great money saver! (where I live it's about a 80 - 100 dollars) Thanks again and keep up the good work!
@Alfamoto86 жыл бұрын
Well an update for you, the seedlings went very well for the last year and despite my mistakes it was a success. So this year I'm doing it again and with a much better setup so I hope for a much better yield this summer. A quick tip, put some good potting soil with perlite as BubbleBeet because I started them in cheep store bought compost and many of them are strangling to grow!

I have a suggestion... when frost threatens I use cloches made from old clear gallon jugs (like the kind vinegar comes in). I cut the bottom and handle off (and use a stick to brace against the wind) and place over the tender plants. Being translucent, they allow the sunlight to revitalize the plant acting like a mini greenhouse. Then when the as the day warms up I remove the jug keeping it on the stick ready for the next time. Enjoyed your video very much.

Peppers need to be started in January to early February. They will need to be hardened off before you let them stay outside or you will sunburn them and prevent them from being able to photosynthesize. Take your plants outside on day 1 in the shade or cloudy day for 30 minutes. On day two do it for an hour. Day three 1.5 hours and so on for 30-minute increments for a week and until you see that they aren't drooping. Peppers are also very very finicky when it comes to water. Less is more. Make sure you keep the soil moist but not wet wet or the seeds will rot and or your seedlings will dampen off. Make sure you use a well-aerated soil. add perlite or vermiculite to any soil that you purchase. Let them dry out a tad before watering. Once your peppers have reached early vegetative growth you need to pick all the flowers and buds off. Once it produces a pepper it will stop growing a focus on growing that pepper. Use a high nitrogen low phosphorus fertilizer. Once the plant is big enough for you start introducing phosphorus and that will signal to the plant that you want it to start producing pods. When they are fully mature plants make sure you let them dry out before watering because capsaicin is a defense mechanism and doing so or snapping branches will produce hotter peppers.
