You have done a great job showing how to properly square the finished blocks. consistency is the key as to where one starts and what line to follow, as we all know the diagonal is not the place to start.. ask me how I know.. Carylanne in TX

Aimee, thanks. You made it look so easy. But do you find the center point on the block before you lay the ruler on it and I would imagine you place center point of ruler on top of center of block for that first cut. Correct?

@trinasummer I replaced all my rulers with Creative Grid rulers, they are a little more expensive but worth every penny. Thanks for watching!

Love this video thank you very much. I have been searching for over a 1/2 hour to square up a 12 1/4 inch block and this explains perfectly from the center as all I have is a ruler and my mat.

Can you tell me how you sewed these blocks together? I really love the way it’s looks and want to make a memory lap blanket with my dads clothes. I can’t figure out how you sewed it. Thanks!

It depends on the block itself. Can you send a picture so I can coach you on it?

Aimee, good video but each of my blocks are a different design..a sampler block. Plus each one is a bit different in size. I am very frustrated. I see this video is 11 years old but it popped up. Any suggestions on different block designs? Thank you

Hi Debbie! Here's Aimee's reply: Hi Debbie, not all blocks are squareable, hahaha is that a word? anyway, if you have for instance a 9 patch and you square it up then you will have smaller blocks in the outer area. It's so important to really start off right. I encourage you to always text out your seam, the best way for blocks to turn out right is to have that consistent 1/4" seam allowance. Start with 3 strips, 1 1/2" wide by 3 long. sew along the long side and measure the center. it should measure 1". if it doesn't then move your needle as needed. Yes it was a long time ago we made videos. We closed the shop, just wasn't making enough to keep going. I still teach and hope to one day get back to doing more videos. Thanks for watching! Aimee
