JJust FYI.. Paul Coll finally won one of the best matches in recent times, and both men were openly gracious to each other after. What a great sport.

Correct decision, Ali had full access for a cross court shot. Accidental misjudgement from Ali - very rare!

Coll was starting to lean to his right. Farag couldn't tell if he would move in front of his shot. Should be a let.

@@DareusTyn totally disagree. Ali has all the room he needs to play a good cross court. 1:13 any crosscourt hit where coll stands would be overly wide and unfavourable to play.

@cookesam6 I agree that (in hindsight) he had the room to play. But it feels like it would have been risky, cause it looked like Coll was about to move into his line of shot. Refereeing is tough. I'm still learning. Good to hear other perspectives.

@@DareusTyn agree it was close, but close is literally the standard with this sort of shot. Jump between 0:15 and 0:35 - they're almost identical!

Freeze it at 0:09 and at 0:16 - exact same situations and they both each respectively played on.

The pros play this shot all the time. Very strange to go for a let.... they all know the "no milking" instructions to the refs and that sure looks like fishing to me.

to me it looks like not enough room for Ali to play cross-court. I'm glad I'm not in there ref'ing.

Again we see an axample of the ref that wants to be star in the game. You are not, you are just a ref and should follow the rules

At my level of play yes but at their level they would struggle to get through a game if that was a let. People hit tighter balls than that all the time, even at 10 seconds in their positions are reversed and Coll plays the shot.

@@jacobpaintif Farag crossed it he would have hit coll, its at their level it needs to be called let, not club level

He could have played. Like they did, but a safety let should be fine here, because the ball is way loose and the oponent will be near the T.

Ali didn't have that much room to play a crosscourt as he intimated he wanted to do, if he had hit it and hit Paul Coll it would have been his stroke. A very bad decision from the referee, should have been a let given Ali's holding back.

You are wrong. Pause at 1:14 - if ali hit coll it would have been heading towards the side wall which is a default let. Ali had all the front wall access he needed to play a good cross court.

It's a let in my eyes, you are limited to only being able to hit half the front wall

Pause at ~1:13, Ali has access to the centre of the front wall, which is all he needs to make a good crosscourt shot. Anything past the centre (where Coll stands) would make his crosscourt shot too wide, and it would be an unfavourable shot. Definitely a no let, just a misjudgement from Ali.
