Howdy, Prairie Plantgirl!👋 Beautiful pumpkins!👍 I enjoy seeing the squash you grow.😃 I also enjoy pumpkin seeds!😋 I saw that melon on the ground right before you spied it. Hopefully, it was a tasty treat.😃 I'm harvesting lemons for the first time!💃🏽 The figs are slowly coming in, and my second round of popcorn is tasseling. Good times in the garden! "Howdy," to cute Buster!💕

A nice late season haul over there. The cold season is arriving soon as well so get them while you can. Thanks for the share!

It looks like we will have our first frost the beginning of October this year. Time to get it all harvested.

@@PrairiePlantgirlwe actually like to wait for a light frost to improve flavor, but things are advanced this year and it’s just too hot. Our normal frost is 9/25 in Z5a Wisconsin however we are still in high 80s F. Maybe Tuesday night will get close, but then we are to be in the 70s. Our seasons are longer and last two winters too warm and from how the birds are attacking the sunflowers winter may return.

I did not plant winter squash but I have a couple of volunteers that must have come from my compost. No frost in sight here in NS but there have been some cool evenings and my annuals are drooping. Coleus especially, but I already took cuttings first indoor propagation. Basil as well. Harvesting radish, bok choy, turnip, and cabbage sowed in late July. Let’s see how long they last!

Thanks for reminding me to prop some basil. I remembered the white sage that’s not hardy and have a purple also.

Our squash are doing something strange we’ve never seen before-after picking they are oozing like a sap. We had a ton of rain this summer and now drought. We haven’t cut any open and so far they are going to compost. I should have planted pie pumpkins. Maybe that over 100 degrees earlier cooked them 🤷‍♀️ Then we had an odd cross out of compost that had shape of buttercup and color of Delicata and tasted awful. Probably because I don’t like Delicata. My favorite it buttercup and Waltham.

Strange. I’ve never had those issues with squash. Not all squash crosses are edible so that could be the case with your compost squash.

@@PrairiePlantgirl well, it’s just weird and so was the weather. Probably will all be chicken food.
