If you want more quads involved in your leg press, position your feet farther down on the platform and keep the feet closer together. You can focus more on pushing knee forward and extending the leg with your quad vs hip drive with a more conventional foot placement. Just gotta lower the weight a bit at first to find the right groove. Over time it feels really good as a quad workout, especially with higher reps.

Pro Tip: do single leg leg press. As deep as your machine or ROM allows. Apply bracing. Foot placement higher or lower depending on emphasis.

Ivan it depends on the leg press some have a pin in the back seat the more horizontal the seat the more "quads" the more diagonal the seat the more glutes. it would change the way you're doing it. if you lowbar a squat you're going to get more glutes involved the same as if you lean over a lot, the leg presses are the same some are built in a way its just going to act like a glute builder some more quads it depends on the leavers and the body position. See if you can adjust the backrest to be more horizontal which would be similar to less leaning in a squat, or if there's different machines in your gym try another one.

this is specifically for the 45% degree leg presses

This is the tip!
@IvanDjuric3003 күн бұрын
Yeh this one is already maxed out in terms of back rest. It’s at the lowest setting. Unfortunately this machine has limited adjustments. So it’s gonna be mostly glutes for me.
@TheGodLycan3 күн бұрын
@@IvanDjuric300 Yeah that sucks man, i just seen your newest video and noticed that. You could try using yoga pads, on the lower backrest this will increase support for your lowerback and make the exercise more quad dominant because the angle becomes more horizontal. unfortunately with these machines is they aren't always made to fit the purposes we want to use them for.
@IvanDjuric3003 күн бұрын
@@TheGodLycan yeh I know. The thing with that is I might max out the rom on the machine. I was looking at the rails on it and it’s not the longest thing around.

Deadlifts and rows in the same session?! Absolutely brutal. I totally agree with trying things for yourself. I’m curious to know where leg press take you. I tweaked my back once doing deadlifts with a mixed grip. That was enough to scare me to never do mix grip ever again. Double or straps. That’s it for me lol

Have you thought about doing an interview/podcast with alex leonidas? Even though your training principles differ quite a bit, i think that you would have a very interesting conversation.

Don't forget lots of food Ivan, I see it as a physical process, if the muscles don't grow, the strength is not increasing
@nikolidus3 күн бұрын
Now the question I ask myself is when I do legpress do I use olys or flats. Will the flats carry over better for deadlift or will the olys give so much quad activation that it actually helps engage the quads better for deadlift this is something I haven’t tested yet
@lsantilli3 күн бұрын
I actually bet your deadlift may be due for a PR - not because of your leg press but because of your new approach to bench press with the wide grip. You’re always going on about how your forearms are getting lit - I’m willing to bet your forearms are primed for a good pull from a grip standpoint right now.
@IvanDjuric3003 күн бұрын
That’s an interesting point. Upper back and forearms is what I feel when I bench now with this wide grip. So maybe those two things combined may result in a good pull
@stevior3 күн бұрын
It's all well and good adding accessories to a lifting program but you need to be able to use that strength. The first point of contact is the floor, so when you say leg press the bar off the floor, you use your whole foot. If there's minimal connection at the back of the foot, pushing is ineffective. Say, for example you wanted to push a car, would you push on your fingertips or the fingers or the whole hand? When you do an overhead squat your legs can push effectively because you hold the weight where you do. That's where it should sit on your shoulders, farther back on the delts. You'll still lean forward but not as much. Besides all that, if you believe there's such a thing as force feedback, your nervous system will decide the outcome of an exercise in spite of what you expect an outcome to be.

I checked out the video with the leg press, and man i think that leg press is particularly shitty unfortunately. Even with the typical recommended modifications (drop the back support to lowest setting, put feet as low on the platform without losing power through the heels, cushion under the hip/low-back) its impossible to get deep knee flexions due to the way it's built, thus not really getting quads
@IvanDjuric3003 күн бұрын
Yeh that’s what I feel too. The angles are all wrong for quads to get involved.

What I've realized is that you don't need to vary your lifts too much because I just think it takes away from specialization and I personally believe that simply changing the volume and intensity on your main lifts is what will get you better at those lifts over the long term. Why would I switch barbell squats to leg press or belt squats when I want to become better at the barbell squats specifically? Just play around with intensity and volume, squat without a belt or with a belt but just focus on the lift you want to progress with. Just my personal take.

The weird thing I've noticed about top level lifting is theres huge differences between people's training styles. One one end you have mike tuscherer and the other end you have top strongmen with lots of variation. I'm a fan of simplicity myself
@bookinsights10923 күн бұрын
@@bwatt1383 Simplicity is the way. I did lots of variation before but noticed it did not benefit me as much as strict specialization and using the same exact accessories that target my weak points.
@DepthHitter3 күн бұрын
Keep it simple however. Have variations that you keep if they are complex but do the main lifts as well. I like to do complex variations with lighter weight after a top set with my regular one for backdowns
@Ian.lifts.3 күн бұрын
You’re right and I would agree. You get better at what you do. However, in instances of axial loading fatigue, CNS burnout or severe weakness relative to the rest of the system where something like a belt squat, leg press or other variation makes sense. You are right though, if someone wants to get better at squatting or deadlifting (or whatever) you need to do that thing.
@dj53093 күн бұрын
he did pretty much that for 4 yrs. we've moved to this because he wants to focus on volume work for the relevant muscle groups, but if that work only consists of squats, then he needs to rest all involved muscles for 2-3 days between sessions. splitting them up, he can do volume daily.
