I can barely lift 385 and train in the gym that probably has the highest density of world class climbers in the world, haven't seen anyone pull anywhere close to this, in fact from what I've seen they're all very weak at the deadlift once they try it. Almost no climbers train deadlifts and climbing really isn't working your lower back much if at all. Pulling 385 out of the gate is just pure Magnus magic, freakishly strong.

Not to mention saying deadlift is mostly back without talking about hamstrings and glutes... That's literally the first clue for any beginner lifter to make sure you are hinging properly and engaging your hamstrings...so you're not squatting the weight. Obviously people who only do squats don't have stellar deadlifts, both works the legs but different muscles.
@silo_olis
@silo_olis 27 күн бұрын
You need to get motocross athlete Chase Sexton on one of these. He does 405lbs deadlifts as part of his training. It'll help shed light on this sport that always gets severely underestimated. Motocross athletes are some of the toughest athletes out there, always at 180-190 heart rate for 36+ minutes, multiple times a day (during race day). Constantly experiencing tremendous G forces when taking corners, jumping, landing, the 250lb bike itself wanting to throw the rider off at every single bump. And these tracks get BUMPY, and RUTTY. You CAN NOT be sitting down on a motocross track. You are NOT just sitting and twisting the throttle. I'd love to see someone do just that, and see how long it takes them to fall and/or complete a lap :). I get defensive because people scoff at the idea of it being a sport when it has been shown it is one of the MOST physically and mentally demanding sports out there (race strategy, line choice, which gear should I be on? When do I brake? Front brake or rear brake? Is this jump face beat up and does it have a kicker at the lip I need to be prepared for, etc...) These athletes are lean muscle & cardio machines.

Unsure why Larry would recommend using collars on a bench-press though? If you train alone or at home, that can be deadly. You need the safety net of being able to tip the weight off if things go awry.
@styx85

Roll of shame works, as long as you're prepared for it. There's risk to not using collars as well, potentially a lot of force in awkward directions.

He did say you should pretty much always bench with a spotter, but didn't give that reason specifically. I always want to see people say no spotter = no collars.

The top climbers (Magnus is actually insanely strong even among top climbers) can do things like dips and push-ups well. In fact, they usually only do push-ups and dips for chest and triceps. As for pull and core, it's a different story. Pull-ups, chin-ups, muscle ups, front and back levers, 1-arm pull-ups.

You should collab with Mitchell hooper, he’s decently strong given his body weight, and that he’s still pretty young. Especially if you consider that he used to be a marathon runner just a few years ago, his strength is definitely pretty impressive.

people only get pec tears when elbows flared when they are on loads of gear, or doing too much. If you are lifetime natty and progressing with bench, flaring elbows actually stretches chest more and is totally safe.

one thing i think should have been mentioned with the deadlift would be to pull slightly at the bottom to create tension and brace for the pull upwards. sorta how when you are armwrestling you start off with tension so that when you explode at the start you dont dislocate or pull anything.
