I know Tian's squats(both back and front) are legendary but it's always amazing to see how much stronger he is at a lighter body weight than Liu here.

Well he can do at least 7 reps of back squat at 270kg at 85kg bw so ..

I think that was 6 reps, but front squat obviously is much harder to do for reps because our upper body simply starts collapsing after 2-3 reps@@dillonsong5551

Liu Huanhua is listed at 6ft tall, and Tian Tao 5ft 7. They look close in height in this video, although I guess when you're squatting 200+kg the spine is compressed and the knees bent so maybe that's why they appear similar in height.

I've done 405lb Zercher power squats@198lb body weight in my youth, but these guys take it to another level with weightlifting front squats provided the weight is from the rack and perfectly resting on their clavicle. Not too much deviation coming off the hole. Insane levels of power!

Why do they rack backwards?
@energeia18777 ай бұрын
Never seen high level lifters backing (stepping backwards, instead of forwards) into the rack to unload. Anyone know the reason for this?
@thomaslux16972 ай бұрын
Old comment, but thought I'd let you know. There are kind of two (related) reasons. You'll usually see this with Chinese lifters. Most of the training halls in China have a different kind of rack: it's like a block with a divot for the plates (not the bar). It is way easier to put the bar down on these, and the landing is more secure, so it kind of doesn't matter what way you're going. The other reason is that unracking and walking backwards is slightly harder than walking forwards, so you have more energy to do your squats. Obviously, they still have to walk backwards afterwards, but since they're always on a platform, they can just drop the weight if needed

@kriena41908 ай бұрын
Its kind of just to get them used to simply holding much heavier weight. Forgot the exact detailed reason but that's the jist of it
@zemm90035 ай бұрын
It's to prime your nervous system to hold heavy weight. A big part of lifting is psychological. Even if you are physically capable of lifting heavier you will not be able to do so unless your mind is used to feeling the weight on top of your back (or in this case front).
