that's crazy I'm in cali, I have had to deal with squatters a couple times, but there is no way I call pigs, pull up with a couple cousins and couple 9's with your own lease renting to your cousin, every single time within ten minutes the issue is resolved. sometimes people need some motivation. peace to all my real Americans that don't lay down.

Basically find a forclosure and never disclose your name to the owner? What option's would the homeowner/ lender have if they can't put a name to the squatter

If a shoplifter is collared by police and produces a fake receipt for the jewelry he stole, do the police throw up their hands and say “this is a civil matter, nothing we can do?” What about car thieves?

A car would have a "pink slip" i.e. title is registered with the state. I believe many states need to create a way to "register" your lease agreement. Something that the Police can check and that would empower them to arrest or remove squatters. This should also be done with City Water Departments as utility bills can be used as evidence of residency ( in some states.)

pretty sad. i LOVE OTM. however on this episode, unless i missed something, the only creative actionable advice came from James D while the two licensed attorneys provided nothing except (paraphrasing) yeah yeah, that sounds like a good idea. why bother having the attorneys on the call if they don't cite successes/options at removing squatters? the attorneys may as well have said that, in their states, there's no actionable legislation in recent years that supports quick(er) removal of squatters. the dynamic on the show was really weird, at least to me.

outrageous! It feels so backward in time. How come the system needs 6 - 12 months to determine whether a person actually has a valid lease or right to a property? What a huge waste of time and resource!

These lawyers just said anyone has the right of ownership if you can prove it in the courts by paying lawyers

How about they get mail at our address? One squatter took over an apartment by showing police officers they get mail or have a doctor prescription with your address on it. She mailed herself mail to the address to obtain a driver's license with the address on it prior to claiming to be a legal tenant of the address being discussed. Squatter queen knows the law to convince the police she is a legal resident of the unit. She got a restraining order that kicked the real tenants out for 30 days. This happened in North Dakota 2024.

Why not install a monitored security system so the cops are called immediately upon break-in?
@martha_aj43865 ай бұрын
I’m surprised no one mentioned this. There are so many options that are easily set up and have affordable active monitoring. I’m curious if this wouldn’t be sufficient, as it would, in theory, show forced entry and the owner would have the home registered with the security company and potentially the city ( since some cities require security systems to be registered)

Lawyers are the problem. They make money off this litigation...and also make the laws that allow squatter
