I've been watching this performance on KZbin for years, it is probably my favorite lineup of talented musicians playing tempted with Glenn Tilbrook and the amazing saxophonist David Sanborn who sadly died today. We will definitely be missing him. RIP David Sanborn 1945-2024 It's hard to believe so much time has gone by so quickly. I am 61 but can't understand where the time goes. It seems like just last week I was in my twenties. So sad to see him go. His work can be heard on many recordings. The stones miss you, David Bowie young American, and Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and many other Rock, blues, r&b, pop, jazz, and just about every😮 genre of popular music.

No Paul Carrack on lead vocal or keyboards here, but wow, this is a fantastic version with Glenn Tilbrook doing all the vocals, the great late George Duke on the Hammond B-3 organ, David Sanborn on sax, and all of Squeeze in 1987. Thank you for sharing this gem of a post!

@@mikestevenson576 To me, it makes perfect sense. Both men have fantastic voices, but Carrack is better suited for this song. I prefer the timbre of his voice and his phrasing. Plus, I think his voice is more distinctive. Also, I feel like they were going for more of an "American" sound so that they could gain popularity in the states. Carrack definitely provides that sound. Just my opinion though.

This song only went to #49 on the Billboard charts when it was released in '82. But here, seven years later it is rightly recognized for the classic new wave torch song that it is! The added sax and soul that is pumped into it here is how I've been hearing it in my head for nearly 35 years. One of my faves to play sing or slip in to the CD in the car.

His program is always interesting but it would be great to see his old Squeeze mates Glen Tilbrooke and Paul Carrack and Chris Difford ! They should be the house band on that show.
