Still the same voice after all these years. Chris looks into camera like Dougal from father ted at the beginning. Just a brilliant composition and such a complex chord progression. And its taken me 30 years to appreciate it fully. Takes me right back to my late teens. Fond memories. Cheers guys.

Thanks for this,,,,wow last time I heard Jim Kerr Squeeze was new, I was in High School or something in NY. These guys are great! The Spot the Difference album clips sound great and it sounds like they are working on new material. The new Squeeze lineup also the Keyboardist and Drummer from Glen's recent group the Fluffers - they've been putting on some great shows over the years but it will be great to see Squeeze again.

Always amused by the Carrack v Tilbrook vocals arguments on this classic track. So few seem to point out they BOTH sang on it. Carrack takes the 1st verse Tilbrook the 2nd (so a great way to compare) so probably explains why it appeals to so many. I think Carrack is technically the better singer but Tilbrook totally owns the song in pure soul/earthiness.
@dinopappous66394 жыл бұрын
Glenn doesn't do the entire 2nd verse....Elvis Costello and Chris Difford also chime in and then Carrack does the 3rd verse entirely....Costello helped produce the album along with Roger Bechirian with help from Dave Edmunds, and it was a group decision to modify the 2nd verse like that....as for Carrack being the technically "better" singer..that's tough to call...I've heard Tilbrook live on many occassions (the only true test) and he's always spot on.....Studio recordings can cover a lot of sins (ie Don Henley for example)..and that's not to dispute Carrack's greatness (ie The Living Years).....
@donaldpolson54504 жыл бұрын
@@dinopappous6639 Thanks for the correction re 2nd verse. Totally get your point but I still stick to my original comment (having heard Carrack live also + video recordings of live performances). I say that totally loving Tilbrook and totally agree his live recordings/performances - one of the rare performers who can play live AND actually sound better than edited studio. You can tell just how he plays this - absolute confidence and technical ability - I mean those chord progressions he makes seem SO simple. As I said what makes it for me is his soulfulness/expression: it's like I love Billie Holiday and think she is the greatest female singer as no one matches her for soul/expression/interpretation yet others slate me as they say Ella Fitzgerald /Sarah Vaughan are better technical singers. I know probably gone totally off the point but just trying to provide an example of what I'm trying to say about Tilbrook v Carrack.
@dinopappous66394 жыл бұрын
@@donaldpolson5450 you can't go wrong with either one

I don’t agree that Carrack is technically better, Glenn Tilbrook is an absolutely faultless singer, and I much prefer his voice.
@cosmiclawnmower98183 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer Glenn singing this song over Carrack. While he is a great singer and a great musician in his own right, Paul Carrack is not Squeeze. He was only in the band briefly as a replacement keyboard player in the absence of Jools Holland. Glenn singing gives the song more of a Squeeze flavor.

Always loved this song, it's great to hear the acoustic version but does anyone agree that he should pick and choose when to play the riff... seems a bit redundant to just keep playing the riff throughout the whole song.. maybe reserve it for the chorus or something? Just saying... Glen's voice still gives me goosebumps though...

It's a copyright thing....it is a skip that is built into the playback (happens again at 2:02 and at 2:52) to make it "different" from the copyright protected original....they may not own the copyrights (or perhaps didn't at the time, that's why theydid "Spot the Difference" album) ...Imagine not being able to play your own music without having to pay some record company if you broadcast it on a media outlet.....Ridiculous (another great Squeeze album)....
