Thanks again for the great videos and especially your insights and the way you talk through your train of thought Pete - learned a lot! I also learned about the beer card from your vids, never knew of it. When I read a bit into it's "history", I found out that it actually comes from an old German / Danish card game called Skat - which I used to play a lot when I was very young. In that game (played with a deck of 32 cards), diamonds are the lowest ranking suit and the 7 is the lowest card, hence winning the last trick with it is considered somewhat of a feat. Accordingly, by analogy, the logical "beer card" in bridge should actually be the 2 of clubs (lowest card in the lowest ranking suit). It would be interesting to know how the concept was transferred from Skat into Bridge. Funny fact.

Ah, you had the robot go bonkers on board 2 as well... did make a pushy 3NT bid on board 4, got a spade lead, win in dummy then heart to hand, then get the guess of the Jh right for 100%. Otherwise mostly the same, was in NTs on board 1, didn't make board 6, 1NT open on 7 for the extra 10 points, just went straight quant invite on 8 with the same results

Hand 4: I ducked 2 diamonds after playing H to K and A, then on the black suits E discarded 2 Hs and W one so was able to pick up the JH

well played on board 5. (Most of us didn't get the mis-defence of a spade pitch though. It's more normal for West to make three club discards on the trumps, which makes the winning line almost impossible to find.)

Board 1. Peter ."Queen jack doubleton spade is not really that crash hot"...made me smile thinking it was a darn sight better than 7 deuce doubleton heart

I think what Pete means is that the 3 HCP in the spade suit are worse than an average 3 HCP. A suit of 72 is worse, but it’s not a waste of HCP meaning the strength of your hand is better for the same number of HCP. Turn those QJ of spades into 72 of spades and the 5 of clubs into the K of clubs and the hand has the same number of HCP but becomes much stronger.
