Gday mate great video i used to have a lot of trouble catching squid from my boat until a mate gave me a tip , if you put a ball sinker in front of the lure about 2 feet and a swivel to stop it it works well , after he gave me this tip my squid success was amazing just about bag out every time follow the same procedure you showed only add the ball sinker take care .

My goodness, ness... that is wonderful Rodger and very well explained with cooking up some beautiful squid, I was hoping to come home sooner to watch this video, but I've been called out to my local spot and a mate had hooked a mulloway for the third time, this week. Sadly lost them all, back home now having a nice cold beer enjoying your video and I'm feeling a little seafood hungry now, Thank you Rodger you've gone from teaching me how to successfully beach worm throughout your KZbin clips right through to making me hungry for some (Dericious) fish and squid. Thank you and well done mate 😊👍 smiles for miles ❤️👍

Hi Roger from the UK.You might like to try your squid done in a pressure cooker it falls apart 16 mins at 15 lbs pressure one atmosphere above ours at sea level. Game changer and my mrs loves it and the only way she will eat it even a one min fry is too tough for her lol. you can bread it after cooking in pressure cooker and flash fry at high temp to get a crispy coating on succulent soft squid. Rob T UK squid angler for bait and table .

These are thin and super tender Calamari squid. Cut into strips and pieces , five seconds a side in is all they need. I'm pretty sure they would be great raw. They're not your average thick deep sea squid. God might be an Englishman, but Australia is God's country, full of convicts. 😂

Hi Roger, congratulations on your awesome videos, they are very genuine, honest and helpful, with some amazing tips. With this video, if I could suggest it may have been helpful to go into a little more detail, especially for beginners on the rod and reel set up, a little more footage on technique, tips on accessing rocky landbased areas such as this, precautions, tides, conditions etc, and perhaps more footage of you catching the squid. 😀 Also just a note on the PDF download there is an error under Point 3 ( Multiple Jig Colours ) the content is for a Tortilla recipe instead of for jig colours. Cheers 👍

Good video mate. The white jig does works the better overall. As kids in the 60's and 70's we would use the metal squid jigs off the rocks or jetties, with a peeled potato on it. For some reason the white of the peeled potato attracted them. Got caught a few times sneaking some of mum's potatoes to go fishing though. She let us off 🤣 Cheers.

Hey Roger, I love your fishing videos. Do you have any advice as to how long a leader you would use between your braid and squid jag? And would you use a swivel or just tie a fg knot or similar?
@RogerOsborneFishing9 ай бұрын
You don't need a long leader. 1m is enough and just tie a knot.

I'm an old and I mean old flyfisherman. I tried squid jigging for the first time about two weeks ago. In the puget Sound, at dusk, on an incoming tide stayed until about 15 minutes after slack tide and it was totally dark. I brought a homer bucket and shined the light on the jig so it would glow. I had not one single take in that two hour period. What did I do wrong? This looks easy but there's something I'm definitely missing here. What do you think would help?

Fab video, do you need to tenderise squid? or only octopus?
@RogerOsborneFishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vurhd, No, I don't think that you need to tenderize Squid. We cook them as is and they are great and tender. Some people like to marinate them with mashed up kiwifruit which does make them softer

hi Roger, awsum channel and thankyou for your tips but do you notice any difference in quality or taste by cleaning your squid in fresh water and not directly in the salt water, I've done both and now only clean my squid for eating in Saltwater or if I take em home whole I will freeze em and use em for bait only

The reel was a Shimano Sedona C5000, the rod was a Shimano Anarchy 702 4-8kg. It's one of my Snapper soft plastic rods. A bit heavy for Squid but still did the job. Shimano has dedicated Squid rods.

Squid don't see in colour, they are monochrome, only seeing shape, light and darken prey type, Thats why white jigs work well, during clear water and day jigging and pink reflects the morning or evening sunset/sunrise, also they detect UV and even thought to have thermo traits, their are thermo live jags which you can warm up a little and it is highlighted even more so to the squid, also UV jags work best and last 4 times longer when light by a black or UV light rather than standard head torch.

Hey Roger. As much as I love your videos (your videos helped me finally get into beach fishing), I find it a little disconcerting that you're not showing safe practice when rock fishing. The conditions in the video are obviously ideal from a safety standpoint, but it would've been awesome if you lead by example (or at least mentioning and emphasising it's importance) by at least wearing a PFD, and other safe practices. I know a few people who, like me, refer to your content for knowledge. On the same note, I know of people who've lost their lives while rock fishing (Hill 60 unsurprisingly). Other than that, I love what you're doing for the fishing community! All the best mate!
