I'll give you a tip David, if you're putting capsicum peppers🫑, you can roast the skin on the kitchen burner until it gets black and comes apart, that way you can peel them off with your hands or a knife and they'd get tender and sweet inside, beautiful to pickle.

@davidsheldonfishing97263 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin thank you, nice to hear you have been having a go for squid this way, its nice to know your jag is down where the squid are with less chance of getting snagged also with a weightless jag you can jig a lot slower and relaxing, my fishing rod is 9ft long.

Hi David I’m excited to make this. I have a question though I wanna know how’s the texture of the squid after picking? Is it soft? I actually wanna preserve the squid in olive oil. Is the procedure the same as you did in pickling the squid in vinegar? Thanks a lot!
@davidsheldonfishing97262 жыл бұрын
Hi May, the pickled squid can be kind of chewy but not off putting. When blanching it you have to be careful not to over boil it. You can try soaking your squid in milk and cover it and leave it in the fridge overnight or marinating it in kiwi fruit or Lemon juice for half hour before blanching I have never tried none of these techniques but I am going to it dose sound good. I have heard of things preserved in olive oil but I haven't heard of pickled squid in olive oil, I would think pickling involves vinegar. I am looking forward to doing some more pickling myself and I will try the milk thing first, it is very yummy. All the best May enjoy......Cheers David

Is that rig with the sinker lower there to help top from your jig snagging? I am yet to catch a squid as i always get snagged and lose my jigs
@davidsheldonfishing97263 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, yes the small sinker on the bottom hits the bottom and lets me know my squid jag is down in the right place near the bottom where the squid like to be, I also remove the weight from the squid jag by pulling it out or cutting it off so that it floats off the bottom. when you cast out as soon as your sinker and jag hits the water flick your bail arm over and try to let it sink with a tight line,( when windy it is trickier until you get use to it) when your sinker hits the bottom you line will quickly go slack (practice this maybe on a sandy bottom maybe to get the idea) when your line slackens give a little wind to take up the slack and lift your rod and when lowering your rod wind in the slack to and slowly repeat like I do until near the rocks, not to close to avoid snagging on the edge and wind in and repeat. I Find the smaller squid jags work better than the large ones. Hope this help you to catch your first squid Ben.

I can always turn a squid into a hard rubber tire. I have tried deep frying for 50 seconds. Tried marinating in Kiwi Fruit. Tried soaking in milk. Tried double freezing. Still they come out like Dunlop tires. Does the pickling help with the toughness?
@linden723 жыл бұрын
Super hot and quick, get the cooking surface to smoke and just throw it on and as soon as it goes white , 30 seconds max take it off... and make sure it’s COLD when you put it on... unlike red meat... the quick temperature shock is what makes it tender, good luck
@davidsheldonfishing97263 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, Linden has answered your comment nicely, its all in the cooking the pickling is just yummy. I have heard you can use bicarb soda to help tenderise squid but I have never tried that. All the best with your future squid cooking.
