I played "Ppop-gi (aka Dalgona)" in early 60' in Korea. It was much thinner than how they're making on the film. It was extremely thin. If I make it successfully, I used to get extra one for free. It was a thing kids played back then.

The reason why many of their tv shows showed blackface as parody and their idols used the african hairstyle is because to korean people those things were considered normal and not racist. Even if you took public transportation and got slapped by an old people just because you were not korean and no one will help you at all, the reason the old people slapped you was because to them public transportation can only be used by korean and tourist should use taxi instead. A bit of cultural context: Dalgona historically was "struggle food", meaning a cheap street candy for kids that sold for maybe 50 won in the 80s (my childhood), equal to not even a nickel. It's just burnt sugar and baking soda. It harkens back to a postwar Korea when resources were scarce and many lived in poverty. But to boomers and gen x there's a nostalgia to the taste and that's why the squid game characters, mostly middle-aged, all recognized it when revealed as a game.

I first learned about this show on the news, believe it or not, and decided to watch it since I already have Netflix (I don't make much use out of my own subscription). That first episode was so much darker than I expected, and although I found the courage to keep going, that was the one thing that stuck with me the most. Nothing in the other 8 episodes topped that in emotional impact, as least for me. I wouldn't call the show a "masterpiece," but I can see why it's popular and I like that some foreign-produced media are really starting to break through to the mainstream in the USA, and especially upsetting the monopoly that is Hollywood.

1. Back in the early 70s (in Korea) it cost 10 Won or almost U. S. 1 Cent or a penny. The reward for completing it without breaking was 100 Won or almost U. S. 10 Cents. In Seoul, it was called "뽑기 (Bbop Gi)" 2. If you ever want to eat it the BEST time to eat it is right after any meal AND eat it while it's hot (before flattening it) eat it the way it came out hot and it'll taste the BEST! Keep in mind though, it's made out of pretty much ALL SUGAR!

That's actually not the shop that made the dalgona for Squid Game. The shop that made it is this grandpa's shop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWicf4miq62Crc0 The shop you went to makes the dalgona too thick (thick ring around the cookie). There were some fake stories made up by teachers and parents alike that kids get sick or died after eating dalgona. However what teachers seemed worried about waa the kids being addicted to the game winnig of which rewards kids with extra piece of sugar junnkie.

Oh you ehem Lord, you know who you are so come on and join! lol The salesman then will bet for more illegal activities ownership for the players. lol The games should be those illegal activities but in giant size form. lol Killing part for the players will be how they also kill their victims due to those illegal activities. Now that will be like Netflix Lifetime Blockbuster series and continuous season up to 100 years. lol Coz even if any of those ehem lords were captured, there will be new ehem lords to take the position.
