that's because of money. american class A actor is so expensive to afford as everybody knows. this is 1/10 or 1/20 of budget of normal american drama which mean korean director can make more than 10 season episode while american making 1 season with same money even if we get funding enough money they not gonna shoot small country short drama. why they would? I would not too also they will shoot with mask whole time Oh my... that's impossible to get good english actor and actually VIP is not very important person in this drama VIP is extra so I guess director choose just class B C actor or none professional just english speaker with masks for extra because they have NO choice. well things will getting better if korean drama keep doing well and get enough funding and "good" american actor "willing" participate

I love the irony in Deok-su's death. You would think someone like the main characters would take him down or someone "tough", but the fact that a woman like Min-yeo took him down with her was so satisfying. He didn't take her seriously due to his sexist attitude & merely saw her as a nuisance but that all change when he came face to face with her on that tile during their final moments. She really did get her revenge after all
@Thigsy2 жыл бұрын
Min yeo is the stereotypical person who gets used by others and being dumped when they think she's of no use to them. Being the case she also tries to use others to her advantage. She ended her life getting exact revenge on a person that dumped her ending her being used as a tool by others her whole life. That's why she didn't hesitate to die by killing him.

As this show was filmed in South Korea, the VIPs were basically any English speaking white people extras they could find locally. Hence the bad acting. If you watch a lot of Korean shows/movies, any time there’s westerners or Chinese speaking characters it’s the same level of cringe.

Korean here too. god the VIPs scenes made me _cringe_ every time they talked (not just from the acting but the lines they were given as well) but I also felt like that was intentional?
@YoBoiToxic4882 жыл бұрын
I think that they either told the VIP actors to be intentionally ridiculous or just hired random people to play them. It makes it much more frustrating as a viewer to realize that those are the people responsible for all of these deaths and I think that it speaks to the theme of inequality (particularly financially) throughout the show. Many people believe that the world is a meritocracy where what you put in is always going to be what you get out. In reality, people start from all different places and most of the people participating in the squid game have very admirable qualities (ali for example) but likely started from a much worse place than the VIPs. By making the VIP's into wacky/dumb characters, the show challenges the idea that a true meritocracy exists and implies their success in life is due to something other than their own qualities. and I am sure that many rich people do genuinely act like that behind closed doors Just my take on this part of the show because I see a lot of people complaining about the acting of the VIPS

I was yelling at my screen when the glass manufacturer said that he couldn't tell which was which for the last one. He was using the light to tell which was which but all he had to do was look at the edges of the glass. Normal glass has rough and sharp edges and tempered glass has smooth edges. I know it was for the plot but still, he's a glass manufacturer.
@raahimbashir34822 жыл бұрын
Also, what he could have done was bounced the marble on the tile he was already standing on (which is confirmed to be tempered) and listen to the sound produced, and then thrown the marble on one of the next tiles as he did and compare the sound produced to the control he’s already standing on. With only one marble to throw, there was no point wasting it by throwing it across without already knowing how tempered glass sounds. It’s certainly not fail proof , but if the sound produced is similar to the sound made by the tempered glass he’s standing on, it’s worth assuming that one is also tempered.

But yeah, It's just super rare to have fluent english speakers who can also act who ALSO live in Korea. Also there is something to be said about how well a director can give direction with a potential language barrier. This is all to say..I agree 100% the VIP's in this show really detract from it..and their lines could have been seriously cut down. @@user-kl1nd1gm2s Yes! I saw an interview with the director. He mentioned how incredibly lucky they were to find and cast him in the role because skilled 'foreign' actors (who also spoke korean fluently) were very hard to find at that time of filming. I really loved his character T T
@waitingforapril2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure they could have auditioned other actors via Zooma and flew them in...I mean it's a Netflix production. There are plenty of actors who dont charge much and are just glad to get the work...and yeah, Ali!!!!! He is one of the first fully fleshed out real characters I remember who are foreigners in a Korean drama, and thank goodness for the actor--couldnt have asked for better.

Funny, I had just been saying in the last episode that this was so good; the writing, the sets, the editing, and .. quite a bit of the acting. And then episode 7 and the VIPs. 😂

In a structure created by someone, we try to escape from the present situation, but the reality is not. The squid game represents our life itself in this era.

One of the VIP dudes is seductive. I'm assuming he's a gay sugar daddy. He was seducing Jun Ho in the VIP room. Anywho, enough gay talk. I saw in the comments that the white dudes acted poorly, but I don't see how it's bothering me. The glass stepping stones game scared me shitless, it's like a leap of faith

I feel like the VIPs where acting that way to portray a clear difference between them and the other characters, they act almost like NPCd while all the others have such complex and cool dialogue. At the end of the day the story is not about the VIPs so they act the part

Everyone talking about the VIPs being local foreigners in Korea hence the bad acting..... Me thinking about one more foreigner people forgetting in the series(ALI) His acting was damn apt to his role 😂😂😂 I really enjoyed Ali's role (Played a Pakistani being an Indian) His name is anupam tripathi He is also a foreigner but nowhere did I cringe during his takes😂😂

This episode cheesed me off. Up to this point you could argue that the games were mainly skill based. But the glass stepping stones game was pure luck. And worse, when it was discovered there was a player that actually did have the skill to tell the glass apart, they deliberately screwed him over. So much for the game being "fair".
@usul5732 жыл бұрын
Actions speak louder than words. No matter what anyone says about the games being fair or equal they escalate further and further until this absolute death trap. There's no need to kill anyone if the point is just to do well in six games and win a prize, they could just send everyone who loses home. This could be a six foot drop into a cushion. The point is to entertain.

As someone who is scared to death of unsecured heights, this was my absolute nightmare. I'm laying in bed while watching this episode, and both my palms and the bottoms of my feet began sweating. Unbelievable! And then to think of those contestants having to take off their shoes and land securely on glass panes. If that were me... let's be serious, if I would have made it that far I would have crumbled into a fetal position on the first platform and said, "okay, fine. Shoot me now."
