One thing that wasn’t mentioned is the striking aesthetic of squid game. Just scrolling through Netflix, the imagery really stands out. That’s what got me interested in the show at least
@collin.a.Ай бұрын
this was my thought as well. the colors and the suits and the blank white rooms, the child-like aesthetic + a sense of uneasiness with each setting. although certainly a different aesthetic, I was also intrigued by WandaVision for similar reasons, in part. I think SG just hit the right notes at the right time. it's a really great show, lots of depth and intrigue

It’s the psychology aspect of the show that gets people hooked - what would we do in that situation? What strategy would we use? Also the cinematic contrast of childhood games to high stakes risks makes it fascinating

The succes of Squid games 1. The story touches on something relatable: being poor and being able to do anything to get rich. For ex how often do we say: would you slap your sibling for 1M dollaars? The show touches on this subject 2. The fact that they used childhood games with high stakes. 3. The aesthetics of the series were popping and standing out 4. The characters and games were very sensitive to go viral on social media.

The south koreans produce so many great and intriguing tv shows these days. Squid Game, Moving, The Glory, Mr Sunshine, My Mister, Alchemy of Souls, Taxi Driver, Kingdom, Death's Game, Good Manager (my personal fav) just to name a few! As a european I just like that they have no political or activist BS in it that defines story and characters like Hollywood does so much these days which is annoying af. The moment I hear the word "diverse" these days I'm automatically turned off which is aweful when you think about it but it's just at a point of absolute annoying overkill nowadays for me. Keep them coming south korea!

I think it was popular because it was about desperation and we all felt that we all needed a life change, aesthetically it was really cool and interesting which led to great Halloween costumes, the tone was also very different from all the other shows you mentioned and much more approachable, I also think the game show element of it all made it more fun for people
@mateokangАй бұрын
Most film makers are interested in creating escapist fantasies. While Squid Game is no exception, its escapist premise enables an honest look into desperation within a capitalist society. The initial draw may have been the premise, but it was the pulse of the human stories that resonated with the audience, a pulse that comes from a real place. I think Breaking Bad did well for the same reason.

"We've seen this sort of thing before.... It's really nothing we haven't seen before" I mean this same thing could be said about a majority of movies, especially comicbook movies. As far as the 2nd season goes, I doubt they'll make it like the 1st season. I'm thinking this season will be the MC & the cop guy attempting to take down the entire operation. Also, they already announced that the 3rd season will be the last, so it's good that it won't be a long series.

I have to admit I’m cynical about Squid Game 2, the first season took 15 years to write and make, meaning the creator could craft something very polished and fresh and new. They are rushing this out in 2 years to cash in, I strongly doubt he can write a second series as good and compelling as the first season. Plus the concept is no longer fresh.
@worlddd7777Ай бұрын
Concept was never really fresh, that type of story has been done 50 years ago. But it was really good series
@lazzi2462Ай бұрын
It was actually 12 years. And who's to say he didn't have the entire series planned out 12 years ago already? They already announced that Season 3 will be the final season & both 2 & 3 were filmed back-to-back, so the creator probably already had it all planned out. Also, it didn't take 12 years to write, it just took that long to finally be greenlit, as the creator kept getting rejected by multiple studios. According to sources, the creator came up with the plot in 2008 & then wrote the script a year later, so it actually only took like a year to write.
@seanmorris1985Ай бұрын
Can’t say for sure but I’d believe the creator(s) would have had the whole storyline planned out if it took 12 years to get it off the ground and made. Hence why they announced S2 & S3 at the same time. I don’t think it’s rushed . I think it was planned all out. But we’ll have to wait n see

@@johnnybaum7957Squid game was more popular because of how grounded it was. It could actually happen in real life and it covers huge problems a lot of people have in the real world like debt. @TheFilmGuyOfficial there is a reason why kdrama(korean drama) is so popular and loved worldwide and not as much as other international dramas and its bc of their unique storytelling ability to captivate ans draw the audience as well as the top notch production. Korean cinema is better than 98% of what hollywood churns out.
