I used to booyah for morale at the start of every game but I've been told not to because it makes you look bad if you do and then lose the game... So now I just swallow it and cry my way to the objective. 😔 Ranked has killed my innocent squid kid soul. Also people block me for underperforming even though I don't feel like I cheated my way there? 😭 I wanna get good so I can enjoy the game again...
@SquidSchool3 жыл бұрын
@@mightybear5441 I don't think it makes it look bad if you lose the game; think of it as a "let's do our best!", a commitment to your teammates, a positive affirmation of them whatever ends up happening once the rainmaker shield pops. If you think you have to be good at the game to enjoy, you're not going to have a good time. Get good at the game because you enjoy it, not the other way around.

This video really highlighted to me that what's really holding me back is my impulsivity. It's something I've had trouble with since the first game. I've got a lot better at it but if there's even a slight chance I could get a double or triple kill then I will go for it. Getting multiple kills is my absolute FAVOURITE thing and the dopamine rush when it happens causes me to go for it when I really shouldn't. Im at the 22 minute mark of the video but so far I do everything mentioned apart from this and making sure a teammate is with me. How do I stop rushing into fights to chase that sweet dopamine hit? It's even better for me than winning
@SquidSchool3 жыл бұрын
The way you win those fights (and get that dopamine) is by being patient enough to take the fight when you'll win it. The further you get in ranked, the less possible it'll be to take uneven fights and win them. It's such a cool feeling when you and a teammate sweep through the enemy team covering each other's backs like you're in a fight scene in an action movie together.
@randomness0513 жыл бұрын
@@SquidSchool yeh I didn't realise it was actually good to group up with your teammates. If I saw a teammate I would often swim away from them to reduce my chance of dying but it seems like I'm also reducing my chance of winning. This probably feeds into my previous comment that I want to be the one that gets the kills which is why I also probably do it which is so incredibly stupid I know. I'll really work on this
@SquidSchool3 жыл бұрын
@@randomness051 You definitely need to be far enough away that you don't both go down to the same bomb, but if one of you gets attacked, you need the other one to be close enough to be in range of the opponent. It also helps to be spaced apart a little bit so you fight the opponent at different angles and they can't shoot both of you at the same time. But don't be on the complete opposite end of the map unless your flank will line up perfectly with when your teammate pushes and you won't get seen before you start it.

Keep improving and never loose hope. All of the advice on this video applies and it will make you rank up quickly. I was once on A rank and I was happy with that and I just played for fun; then suddenly I ranked up and up. I am not that good at the game, I don´t use motion controls and I cannot aim properly; instead I take the rainmaker and carry it sneakily to take the lead and hope my teammates defend the advantage. My average of splatting is between 3 or 4, being a sploosh-omatic main and a mostly cancelled splashdowner main. Somehow I managed to get to X rank a couple of weeks ago, and everything said on this video, the X rank players does naturally and I notice; but anyways. I ranked up for the LOLs of being someone that I don´t consider good at this game, but somehow between LUCK and BEING carried by my teammates I managed to get to X rank (I will probably rank down but I don´t care because I had a good laught lol). If I could get to X rank, I think anyone can too. So don´t loose hope! I don´t know if I takeaway the prestige of the X rank by me being there LOL. But I will probably rank down soon and be happy that just happened lol.

@@fernavliz1 even if you rank down from X, at least you got there once and could experience what it was like. @@moniquemorris6890 It is normal to go up and down on rank barriers. I recently reviewed some old video footage I have from my gameplay, and I discovered that somehow I went from s to s+ and then to s, then a whole month with s and then again from s to s+. And then after a couple of days jumping between s and s+0. Then one day I went to s+1 and going up slow but steady and then at s+3 I thought that it was miracously possible to me to taste X. It took me 5 months (from S+0) but I don´t play that many hours per week, so I will say it was something like between 32 and max 44 hours played on that game mode..... God now that I think about it it is a lot of hours just in rainmaker mode. And also yeah, 4 days ago I ranked down to s+9. It was worth it to see what X was about (And I forgot to push both stick buttons, NO!!!!!; I have to get back to see the X rank animation lol). Thinking about ranks... I am S+0 on tower control and I go back and forth from S to S+0; I didn´t think about it that much but It is very strange to me that I manage to get to X on rainmaker and at the same time struggling S+0 on Tower control; I guess it also applies to rank down to get out of S+ LOL. Sorry for the long reply. I hope I didn´t bore you or something. By the way, congrats on reaching S rank. It is cool when you get to pass from A to S, or at least it was for me as I remember.

One extremely important tip I have is making sure you can easily hear the game’s audio. The game audio provides many ques, not just like specials mentioned in one of this channel’s videos, but for things such as a curling bomb, which may mean a roller is behind and could be flanking, if there is a roller on the enemy team(it any weapon with curling), weapons shot noises, bomb throws, and maybe more subtle things, such as swimming noise, idle noise in ink, and death noises. The most important in my opinion are weapon shots, and secondly, squid audio, such as “ouch” or the noise you make when you die, a “this way” that could lead to the game winning superjump in with a power clam, or even just swimming/idle in ink noises. The last two are a little niche but can help.

This is all great advice! One thing I'd add is that in Zones, when on offence, you said that you want to cap the zone and then push out of it. But there's another important reason beyond just getting the free turf and scoring points. You want to take the fight out of the zone because you don't want the fight to be an opportunity for your opponents to paint the zone at the same time. You really want to force them to divide attention, and capping the zone first lets you do that.

This is an great insight on food for thought for this title. I have played competitive splatoon on wii u for a year and competitive splatoon two for a year in a half. Personally these are all things that you listed in the video points, everyone should know by second nature just from playing title who made it to S plus. I had my share of competitive splatoon in both titles from tournaments, to scrimmages, to pick ups, and fill ins. I was not an amazing player but I was not the worst. If you want a power ranking, I average anywhere from twenty-two hundred to twenty-three hundred plus. Once on a blue moon twenty-four hundred. I fully agree with you in the beginning of the video about your mood, playing a big part of this title. I personally do not enjoy the title at all compared to it's predecessor, so I just stopped playing it two years ago. Things that you can not control really cause too many issues for me in solo rank, however with players I know or chat with we work well together due to our understanding of one another habits etc. I know I have my heavy flaws, especially base on how my current mood is. If I am annoyed I play very rash and reckless going for nothing but splats and tunnel vision. When I am calm and collective, I see more openly, such as painting more, paying attention to my opponents movements, locations, who was splatted, etc. There are many things that I would loved to improve on in this title but due to me being in my late twenties, with little time I had to put all my games to the side. Plus I did not enjoy the title and the few friends I made moved on also or just lost interest all together, with that said so did I for sure thing to know. I commend those who continue to stick with the title due to the love it but that is not the case for me. I played a variety of roles base on what I know how to play and what role the team needed. I mostly played with the octo shot, I played support with armor spam with Nzap, heavy for sting ray, eliter for cloud / bubble beckon, etc. I do not know what the meta is nor do I fallow it. The last meta patch I remember player was probably when the kensa pro was added it dominated the meta with all main power up and the head gear was "come back" ability. Was that patch 4.6 or 4.8 maybe 5.0 I do not remember. I always that when your inkling is at one hit away from death that hinding in your own ink to recover faster was a myth but thank you for confirming that to me. I do apologize for being a scattered brain in my reply as it is heavily early and I am tired. Great informative video and keep on boosting the community 0/

Leveled up enough to play Ranked & League, found a high leveled friend to play casually with, suddenly felt my skills improving learning from them and MAN it feels good to win pushes in a strategic way, more than just rushing in blindly. High skilled players move so tactically, it's wonderful to see. Thanks for the tips! I can't wait to apply more knowledge like this into my gameplay & get more satisfying wins, even if I don't expect to rank that high or anything

changing aim habits can gain massive improvements. i main bamboozler and i had become quite good at flick shotting, while this is a good skill to learn for when you have no choice but to make a fraction of a second movement across the screen to hit, its not when you already have eyes on the target and are looking at them. I realized i was literally only flick shotting, i would intentionally look away from a target just so i could flick them out of habit. Once i started just learning to keep aim near a target and move it more smoothly as i charge up, i was able to take head on engagements much more consistently. dont forget, always look at what your aiming at, as well as your reticle in relation to your target
@AmigosEnLaCasa3 жыл бұрын
I once used bamboozler to help improve most of my aim for basically the majority of weapons, Since you need to hit twice with a charger at a somewhat close range you’d need to have good aim to utilise it imo, i also had to make use of my sub which helped a lot. I felt like it would be better for when i use something like a shooter i’ll have to do what i did with the bamboozler to survive and try to hit the enemy perfectly It worked for me Also despite it was me using bamboozler for the first time i think i did pretty decent with it This video helped a lot!

The feed/stagger loop was eye-opening. One match we got absolutely stomped and I felt so helpless losing every trade but then i realized it was always a 2 or even 3 vs 1. We never teamed up and got picked up one by one across the map. Then I just kinda gave up and fed even more jumping into it without thinking much. Sometimes it's a good idea to stay back, take a breather asses the situation and wait for your mates to group up. I'll keep this in mind for solo que

Thank you for the advice of well being. Personally I don't get too heated or I disengage if it doesn't get enjoyable, but I still want to get better. I know some people that do not know how to prioritize their well being or know how to self reflect. This video was very helpful and refreshing
@chickenngod89003 жыл бұрын
Wow, this video was so helpful, I actually learned a lot from this. I really needed that advice where I need to be patient for a proper push, even if that means the enemy team will take the lead. I kept letting the enemy stagger our team because I had an uncontrollable urge to keep our lead, which lead to me dying a lot, crippling my teammates. Now I've been getting patient, and I've noticed that I've been getting more wins using that strategy. I have X Rank in Splat Zones and Tower Control, but I'm struggling to catch up with S+7 in Rainmaker and S+1 In Clam Blitz. At the rate I'm going, I know I can make it to Quad X before Splatoon 3, but I'm going to see if I can get to Top 500 by then.
@SquidSchool3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Just focus on staying alive and, if you can, farm for special so you have resources to work with when the rest of your team is back and able to push in. flc talks about how scoring in Splatoon can be simplified to pushing for a high watermark; it's not about how many pushes you allow your opponent to have, but how long you let the longest push go on for. Better to give up first checkpoint or let them have the zone than try to stop a push before you're ready.

When it comes to my Splatoon competitive career, I like to split it into two stages. The stage before I learned how to identify and respond to neutral, advantage, and disadvantage states, and the stage after. Learning that concept was genuinely one of the most important things I could've picked up in this game, second only to reading the entirely of Fluid Roles and Priorities back when I was like C rank and commiting it to memory despite barely understanding how to actually apply it.

On November 17 I reached X rank in Tower. On December 5 I reached the Quad X. This video helped me a lot to improve my mindset, wich was very object oriented and never focused on the surroundings. Now in the first placements I managed to get 2171 as peak in Clam Blitz, 2056 in Rainmaker, 2077 in Zone and 2018 in Tower (rainmaker and Tower being tainted by some losses). Ad majora! (and good luck to all the squiddos out there, if I made it, YOU can make it)
@SquidSchool3 жыл бұрын
Those are really solid first placements too; a lot of players struggle to stay above 2k for a bit once they make it for the first time. Congrats!

truly a very helpful video. currently mid s+ and starting to hit a wall in progression. I have bad habits of trying to push tower when I'm at a numbers disadvantage, or taking too many 1v1s. I've tried improving this but it's something I've done since I started playing and can't seem to break a habit of. I think I will do what you suggested and create a Google sheet to monitor progress. I've absolutely got the skills to hit x as i do tend to pop off every game or so, but I feel like I have to be in a specific mode in order to play well. thank you so much for this, it's already helped a bit and hopefully it will much more.
@SquidSchool2 жыл бұрын
Breaking habits is hard; the best I've ever figured to do is, even when I slip up, to think 'oh, I shouldn't have done that' and slowly you'll start to recognize the mistake earlier and earlier until you pre-emptively stop yourself.

And that chart you showed at 5:37 really hit hard, because i say most of those things every game (especially the teammates one). You are extremely underrated imho. Also, what song is that at 19:05 - 21:06 ? Sounds like a remix of the boss music in splat 2 but I can't tell! Thanks!

This is quite helpful. I play sticks and have managed to comfortably get into S+, and from the onset I know that I am at a disadvantage when it comes to aiming and quick turning. So focusing more on spatial awareness and how to out maneuver the opponent, seems of particular importance, at least for me personally. Plus, in the higher ranks, you generally have to rely upon grouping up with other players, rather than going at things solo.

What do you mean? That you just can't afford to focus enough on it right now? That's valid. If you're saying you're just not smart enough I would disagree, I think it's more a matter of being disciplined and thoughtful and willing to learn than coming up with ingenious solutions all the time.

I feel like in terms of aim practice, splashdown cancel practice is one of the most important things, especially for lower ranks since there’s more panic splashdowns.

I wouldn't expect anyone below S+ or so to have the mechanics to take out splashdowns consistently. It's pretty hard. I'll never say no to practicing something difficult though.
